Thanks! I did put in a request for a balcony near GCH, to be more specific Samoa, Fiji, or Tokelau. Balcony or patio is the bigger priority than the location but both would be nice. Here's hoping it works out

These were the movies being played while we were there.

I knew about the movies at the GF, but didn't realize there was also a campfire and dance party. Thanks for this info!

Coopersmom: The Poly and the GF do Movies under the stars and I believe that they also sell smore kits.

They don't sell smore's kits any more, they do have FREE marshmellows to roast though....

For everyone that has just returned from the Poly, how was the pool water temperature? The one bummer of our first August trip last year was how warm the pool water was - I'm talking warmer than the air temperature

Maybe this is just a factor of summer in Florida, but I was hoping the Poly pool might be a bit cooler? Or, do maybe the water parks have cooler water? We're doing the WP&M option for the first time this year

The quiet pool was warm, but I like warm... the Volcano pool was cooler than the quiet pool... not cold per se....

I haven't had a question pop into my head for a while now, but alas the curious kitty got the better of me...

This may seem a bit of a bizarre question but figured someone would be able to answer this! Does anyone happen to know whether the thermostat in the rooms have an "on" feature for the fans? Meaning constantly on instead of coming on only when it needs to cool the room ("auto").

The reason behind this curiosity is my husband snores like a tornado ripping through a balsa wood barn filled with rabid cows. The "white noise" from an always-on AC fan certainly helps drown out some of the deafening racket. (That's on top of the earplugs, mind you.) My fall-back plan is to have a radio on if the fan doesn't cut it.

LOL my husband sounds a lot like that. Maybe time for a C-pak. It is a oxygen type mask that helps to regulate their breating Snoring really isn't a good thing for us the other halves like us

I didnt notice an on switch for the fan at AKV and I can tell you even when it was on, it wasn't loud enough to drown out the snoring.

Well from a fellow snorer might I suggest your DH try Claritin-D 24 hour. It's for allergies (which I don't have) but someone suggested to me several months ago to try it for snoring and my DH hasn't stopped thanking them since. I've snored horribly for years, my DH has sound machines, pillows over his head, we've tried every snoring med/strip/spray all to no avail. I started Claritin-D and after the 4th night my snoring is just about gone... crazy... but if I forget a night I am right back at it. Regular Claritin (non D) doesn't work, nor did the store brand. Anyhow, might be worth trying.

Also I read a while back if the AC units are motion activated (not hard switched) just buy a balloon and tie it to the unit. The motion will keep the AC constantly on.

LOL. No advice but my dad snores like that. I haven't lived at home for a few years, and last year when we all shared a suite on vacation for a family wedding - oh my gosh, I thought my poor husband was going to die, lol. We're going on a trip with my family to Disney in 3 years and getting connecting rooms. I figure my mom, and brothers will crash in our room and my dad will have one all to himself because of his snoring At home my mom has the couch to escape to when need be, but on vacation when you are stuck in one room.... yeah. haha.

Just finished reading through the thread!

We're thinking about heading back to Disney next year, not sure exactly when yet. We definitely want to stay at Poly in GV room. This would be our first time staying there. On our last trip, we stayed at AKL. While it was very nice, the travel time from there to most of the parks, especially MK, and DTD was too long for us. The biggest appeal of Poly for us, besides the theming, is its proximity to MK.

Okay just got done reading all the info, and now I'm looking at the map. Our upcoming trip will be our first time staying at the Poly, but we have been there to eat a few times. It will just be my husband and I, where would be a good longhouse to request to be close to the great ceremonial house? This is where the food, shopping, monorail stop is... is this also where the bus stop would be? Also, is it possible to walk to TTC? TIA!

Our favorite longhouse is Samoa (facing the volcano pool). It is close to everything - GCH, Volcano pool, and quiet pool. Actually, everything at the Poly is no more than a 3-4 minute walk. The bus stop is about 1-2 minutes behind the quiet pool. We even walked to the TTC and it took us a total of 5 minutes (we timed it). Enjoy!

We've always requested a balcony GV room in the past and have always been lucky enough to get it. However, this time we were not so lucky. We were switching over from the Beach Club and were checking in around 10:30am and there were no rooms with a balcony available in the entire resort. The only room they had in the longhouse we originally wanted (Samoa) was a second floor without a balcony. We decided to take it and was pleasantly surprised that we didn't miss the balcony as much as we thought. It was so hot outside that once we were in the AC room we didn't even want to open the door - never mind actually sitting out there. Although, I do hope you get what you want, but just thought I'd let you know that you'd probably enjoy any room you get!!

I don't remember if there is a thermostat for "fan only" (we always just left the AC on). However, there is a separate switch for the ceiling fan. We kept that on all night in case the AC decided to switch off. On 'low' the ceiling fan was fairly quiet, but if you turned it to 'high' with the pull-down string it could make some decent noise. Hope this helps.

Oh, They need to take it off the current activity page they give you at check in, saying they sell S'mores kits. It's nice to get something for free though--- marshmallows

You don't call the Polynesian directly, rather you simply need to phone the normal Disney reservations line. Then ask the representative to add a request to your reservation. He/she will add the request and you are all set. You can make your request at the time of booking or anytime thereafter. Which longhouse are you planning to request?

MY DH has alot of sinus problems poor thing but his snoring doesnt bother me as bad as the TEETH grinding! He only does it when he is stressed which he is right now.. Kept me up all the night before last! I would lay my hand on the side of his face and he would stop until I moved my hand! Its a horrible sound! He really needs this vacation! LOL

I love my husband's C-pak!!! Seriously, he snored horribly for years, then I finally got him to do a sleep apnea test, and they gave him the machine. I didn't even realize how badly I was sleeping before, and neither did he. We are both so much more rested and happy.
