ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

Last day of work tomorrow before we leave next week... (I do have a conf call I have to be on Monday...). Leaving the laptop at home - first time in MANY years.

Printed my DISBoard ears out last night...

For everyone that has just returned from the Poly, how was the pool water temperature? The one bummer of our first August trip last year was how warm the pool water was - I'm talking warmer than the air temperature :sad2:

Maybe this is just a factor of summer in Florida, but I was hoping the Poly pool might be a bit cooler? Or, do maybe the water parks have cooler water? We're doing the WP&M option for the first time this year :cool1:

Living in the south, by July and August the pool water is rather warm due to the extremely intense heat. I like the pool water that way myself, I can't stand it if the water is cold in any way. Our pool here right now is quite warm, which of course I like, but others say it is too warm for them.

I've read in other posts about story times, campfires, marshmallow roasts ... that sort of thing at several other resorts (Yacht and Beach, Animal Kingdom, Fort Wilderness). Does the Polynesian do this kind of daily evening activity, or something comparable, for kids (and their parents) staying at the resort?

Just sounds like something my son would adore.

Coopersmom: The Poly and the GF do Movies under the stars and I believe that they also sell smore kits.

Tinkerbellie16- Thanks for the info!!!

We are getting GV so from what I'm reading I'm thinking of requesting Tokelau also. I was also thinking of not requesting anything and not going with these huge expectations and just go with the flow and enjoy everything as it comes.

Truthfully the kids will just be thrilled to be at WDW for their birthday. We aren't high maintenance people so we don't mind walking here and there. The kids don't mind either.

Whenever I need a mental break -- which is quite often, mind you -- I love checking in to the Poly FAQ. Oooooooom. :goodvibes

I feel the same way :cloud9:

and I think we'll be there close to the same time as you - 5 weeks and 2 days left for us (but who's counting ;) )

I got back less than a week ago, and the pool water felt great to me, the wind blew and I was actually cold, also under the waterfall the water feels colder, so if you do get to warm go under it. Both pools felt nice..;)

Hello, we are 2 adults traveling that have lagoon view rooms (only room category available). I am wondering if anyone has suggestions as to which longhouse to request??? It seems that a lot of the lagoon view rooms would also be theme park views, so I'm a bit confused by what the lagoon view rooms would be. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks! :)

Theme park view indicates a clear unobstructed view of the castle. Lagoon view may offer partial views of the castle, but they will be obstructed by landscaping, land masses or other impediments. For example, some rooms in the Hawaii building face the castle, but have palm trees that reach out in front of the sliding glass doors. Tuvalu and Tahiti seem to be the two most popular non-club level lagoon view buildings.

Okay just got done reading all the info, and now I'm looking at the map. Our upcoming trip will be our first time staying at the Poly, but we have been there to eat a few times. It will just be my husband and I, where would be a good longhouse to request to be close to the great ceremonial house? This is where the food, shopping, monorail stop is... is this also where the bus stop would be? Also, is it possible to walk to TTC? TIA!

Buildings closest to the GCH are Aotearoa, Rarotonga & Niue. It is possible to walk to the TTC from any room, but some walks will be longer than others.

The bus stop (if you were staring at the front entrance of the GCH) would be over to the right, in front of the Neverland Club/Laundry building.

There is a map at the end of this post. That will give you a good idea of the layout.

Here's a map I quickly threw together showing the Poly in relation to the TTC, the bus stop, and the path to the TTC:

It is absolutely possible to walk to the TTC!!! Some longhouses are closer to TTC than others. If you want to stay near the GCH, you will be in a longhouse that is slightly farther away from the TTC but this isn't as bad as it sounds. I'll let the other folks recommend a longhouse for you because I've only stayed in Tokelau which is not next to the GCH.

Sounds great! On a hot day, there's nothing more refreshing than getting in a cool pool. :cool1:

We did notice at the Beach Club last year that wherever there was "moving" water (like the waterfall you mentioned), it was definitely cooler. That's why I'm thinking the water parks might be cooler.

Thanks!
