ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

without further delay, here are a few pics of the suite we stayed ...[description and lots of amazing pictures of the suite]... was pretty impressed with our first poly stay. It won't be our last.
Mary :)

WOW !!!! :worship:

Where exactly is the movie on the beach thing? It's not going to be in the way of the electrical water parade or WISHES is it? I don't want to see that from my room, so that might help with a request. lol.

We were at the Poly in late April so presuming this hasn't changed since then...The movies are on the beach closer to the GF. From what I remember (we didn't watch any movies, just walked by on our way back from dinner at Narcoossee's) the screen is facing away from the lagoon so if you were watching a movie you could turn around and see the EWP or fireworks. I don't think you would be able to see the movie screen from any of the rooms at the Poly but haven't stayed in any of the longhouses on the GF side. Hope this helps,

If someone is going to stay CL soon, it would be great if you could get an official copy of the menu for us. :goodvibes

If not, I'll be there in a couple of weeks and will make sure to come back with whatever I can get. The first page of the thread still links to a pretty ancient menu.

The one coopersmom provided IS the updated menu. You could safely use that since it is the "official" menu and is the same as was created last fall. I didn't check the menu linked in the first pages. If it is the same, it is still what the Polynesian is publicizing as being its menu. Unfortunately, we found the menu was not accurate, e.g., there were no scallops among other minor changes. Those changes could have been temporary due to the departure of Chef Dick and the new chef not being on board full time when we were there.

Do you think the new chef once acclimated would adjust the menu some more to his specialties? I could understand keeping some of the signature items as any restaurant typically does when the head chef departs, but typically in the "real world" a new chef has a certain flair they bring in with them and introduce a few new items. Being Disney and all I'm not sure how much play they have, but I guess I'm wondering if the new guy will switch it up any at some point or if it just remains the same ol' regardless of who the head chef is.

Coming up on the online check in date... made my room/longhouse "request" tonight... getting a box ready to ship down... hard marched the kids to the 7-11 last night to prep them for the heat and the walking (they did get ice cream for the walk home - I got a Slurpee!)...

Has that rumor started up again? Tikiman said that there will be a refurb on the quiet pool and it was going to be in August but the new word is that it won't be done during that month but in the cooler months. Not sure what month that is but that's the most recent I've heard - anyone else?

Take a look at post #539:sad2: I hope it is nothing, but just because of the past rumors of a pool rehab it is harder to not be a bit concerned. KWIM? I hope it is nothing...

On Mouseplanet this was reported:
Construction update
Here is the listing of interesting items from paperwork filed with Orange County in the last week:
Disney’s Polynesian Resort – Volcano pool installation of outlet pedestal.

I have no idea what the heck a "outlet pedestal" is, but it doesn't sound like anything we need to worry about! :thumbsup2

Aloha and good morning my friends! I have some terrifiic news! WIth all the uproar about the Poly pool and beach being for Poly guests only I emailed the IPO (since I had the email address) and couldnt get a straight answer from guest communications, only a form letter about their world reknown service.

Anyway Poly IPO stated and I quote(or paste)

"Aloha!

Thank you for contacting our office! Yes the pools and beach are for Polynesian guest only. We do require guests to show proof of staying at the Polynesian when the pools become over crowded or there are complaints.

Yes you can also decorate the room unless it damages the room or becomes a fire hazard. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with."

I asked about the room b/c I had a few ppl get pretty rude about their opinions on decorating doors, windows and rooms.

So there you have it straight from the horses mouth, the beach and pool or reserved for Poly guests!

To me it makes sense, why else would Poly guests pay the type of premium they do to NOT have that exclusive privilidge.

Thanks, this makes me feel a tad better:goodvibes I just know this will probably be our one and only chance to stay at my dream resort the POLY, so honestly for me it would be tragic if the Volcano Pool was down. out of our 5 days 2 are scheduled to just enjoy the resort and soak up the magic by the volcano pool. I added more days to our vacation, so I could truly immerse myself in all things POLY. So thanks so much:hug: for posting:thumbsup2

Can I ask where you made your "request" to. We will have a late arrival on our upcoming trip, and I am getting nervous. I listed a request when I made our ressie. Should I do something else?

If you look on the first page of this thread, toward the bottom, there is a picture of the setup if that helps at all!!!

If it was as humid in NJ as it is in NY the kids should now be well prepared!!

Oh, make no mistake... it's humid here in Jersey too. Just not Florida humid. We can't see the air here, but we sure can feel it. :rotfl:

Without further delay, here are a few pics of the Suite we stayed in the week of July 19th. The more I think about this past trip, the more I say to myself I want to go back and stay at the Poly!

Our suite was the Princess Suite #27, located on the second floor of the Tonga building and is right beside the little Concierge lounge, and on the other side of our suite was the big King Kahmehaha Suite (please correct my spelling!). I believe the Ambassador Suite was across the hall.

Here are a few shots of the bedroom:
The bathroom ran the length of the bedroom and living room.. it had a double sink vanity, then a huge shower room and then a smaller room with the toilet. I am sorry I didn't take pics. The entry to the bathroom is from the bedroom, and the door can be seen in the last pic I posted above (left hand side of the pic).

Here are few shots of the living room:

The balcony was accessible thru either the living room or bedroom thru the sliding glass doors and ran the length of both rooms. It was great to watch the fireworks from the balcony while eating our Dole Whips! We had a perfect view of the Castle, and I didn't realize that until we got to the room as they just told me it faced the marina.

Overall, I was pretty impressed with our first Poly stay. It won't be our last.
Mary :)

did you get upgraded to this suite or did you pay fot it? the reason im asking is because we were suppose to arrive july 19th but had to cancel and if you got upgraded i would be so mad because that coudlve been us! :rotfl:

No upgrade, it was booked. A CM checking us in told us it was completely sold out and there was alot of people checking in - We were there early and I didn't want in the room, just my tickets to head to the parks.

I thought I had a completel list from our stay, but all I have is the times and general listings, no specific food items.

To be honest, we rarely went over to the Hawaii building. We had access to it though.

I was, too, at least virtually. I had visited and stayed offsite for a few days when I was 9...I think 20 years in between visits counts! And believe me, the Poly made a tremendous impression on me. Hence our third visit in three years coming up next month...:rolleyes1
