ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

Where exactly is the movie on the beach thing? It's not going to be in the way of the electrical water parade or WISHES is it? I don't want to see that from my room, so that might help with a request. lol.

Hi Everyone

Im so enjoying this thread! We are leaving for Poly in 24 days!!! I was adviced to make more of a "general room request" rather than specifics; so I did. I requested "near quiet pool & GCH" and 3rd floor". I am wondering if I should have just been more specific. We will be arriving late to Poly on a Saturday night(hopefully by 10:30pm). We have never checked in so late before; so I don't know what to expect.

Anyway, what I truly would love is to be in raratonga, samoa, or even tokelue facing quiet pool. Should I change my request to one of these specific longhouses or leave it general as is?

Please share you knowledge! I would really appreciate it! Any other later checker iners out there?

Anyone?

When we were at the Poly last August, the movie was not shown at the Poly beach, it was on the beach at the GF so there was no obstruction at all. If this has changed, I am sure someone who has been there more recently will let us know!!:thumbsup2

34 days until we leave!!! I can barely keep my mind on work at the office and home! LOL

I know how you feel!!:dance3: Now that we are also 34 days out, I am running out of stuff to do and plan for the trip which makes me even more anxious to go already!! Starting to go a little crazy....:rolleyes1

Is it September yet?

44 days...44 days...44 days...

*listens to old music loop on computer to calm self down*

I can almost taste the tonga toast now...mmm

OH! Totally random and non-Poly related...

DH and I went to a wedding last weekend where we didn't know anyone but the bride and groom (and DH hadn't even met the groom) and we were seated at a table with friends of the bride. After a couple of hours of keeping to ourselves, a tiny, perky little blonde noticed DH's Mickey watch and said "I see you're a Mickey fan!". Turns out she played the blonde girl at HDDR for 2 years, up until a couple of months ago! How crazy is that? We pounced on her like hungry wolves and soaked up all the little tidbits of info she could pass along. It was so cool!

She also said, when we told her where we're staying, that the Poly is a big favorite of the CM's when they have time to hang out at the pool bars and such. Duh Of course it is. :cool1:

It's good to get a taste of Poly! I really need it!

We have had a couple of sick kids at home this week. I haven't been to work yet this week. DD8 had an ear infection that the doctor thought may have entered her bone, but the CT scan came back clear. Then, DD1 somehow caught adenovirus (first I've heard of it) and has had a fever, sore throat, and pink eye all week.

Today was the first day of school for DD8 and she luckily was well enough to go. I'm hoping to go back to work tomorrow, but who knows.

Right now, I need some Poly loop and pics and I'll relax while the little one is napping.

Cant stand this wait anymore!

We are leaving Friday and staying for 9 nights!!:cloud9::cloud9::cloud9: 10 days

You leave tomorrow - YEAH!!!! :cool1::cool1:

I hope I'm welcome back over here.:guilty::flower3:

I made the mistake of posting a poll on the beaches at the Poly.
Wow did I pay for that.:headache:
Never again.
Curiosity killed the cat.

Doh! I missed it! And I love a heated thread. Because I can always come back here for good vibes :goodvibes And you can come back here to - welcome!

O.K. I really do not like this report about work at the pool, considering my stay at the POLY is 22 days away and there has been several rumors reguarding a rehab on the pool in August:scared1::eek::scared1::eek::scared1::eek:

Has that rumor started up again? Tikiman said that there will be a refurb on the quiet pool and it was going to be in August but the new word is that it won't be done during that month but in the cooler months. Not sure what month that is but that's the most recent I've heard - anyone else?

How fun!!!! What a nice way to spend an evening - Mickey style :thumbsup2

Sorry to hear about the sick kiddos. Hope they get better soon and you make sure to take some time for yourself or you will end up this way too

Mrs B not off topic at all it involved WDW and Poly didnt it!

MisLizz glad DD feeling better and made it to school. My kids start in a few weeks..

Now its my turn to be off topic:

What in the WORLD is up with the mean posters on this board lately? Seriously someone asks a totally innocent question about door magnets and someone jumps on them about damaging the room with decorations and it causing WDW prices to go up. I am so not a confrontational person but for some reason that really ticked me off! I hate it when someone pushes their opinion on someone when it wasnt even asked for! GRRR!!!!!

LOL Ok climbing off my soap box...back to the lovely Poly talk..

There is definitely some questionable posts and threads out there and while I love a GOOD argument, I don't like the personal attacks on people. But I LOVE coming back to this thread because everyone is SO nice!!!

Funny, I remember when DH first found these boards, he told me how wonderful everyone was and how there wasn't that meanness that is so prevalent on other boards. I have never experienced meanness here but then it's a big, big, big board!

Hi everyone!

I just converted my room only with 40% code at the Poly to a MYW package for my 3 kids and me for 5 nights with dining and 2 day tickets for 2670.00:banana:

I just love the Poly.:cloud9:

This thread is the best!

The crabbiness seems to come in waves. Maybe it's the heat? Sometimes there are also one or two people that jump in and crab it up on several threads. You just never know.

My DH suprised my DD and I with a trip to WDW.:cool1: He set it up last week for us. It will be just the 2 of us (he has to work) and he also suprised us with a CL room. I would like a balcony or patio. Which is better, 1st floor or 3rd floor? And how do I put a request in?

Without further delay, here are a few pics of the Suite we stayed in the week of July 19th. The more I think about this past trip, the more I say to myself I want to go back and stay at the Poly!

Our suite was the Princess Suite #27, located on the second floor of the Tonga building and is right beside the little Concierge lounge, and on the other side of our suite was the big King Kahmehaha Suite (please correct my spelling!). I believe the Ambassador Suite was across the hall.

Here are a few shots of the bedroom:

The bathroom ran the length of the bedroom and living room.. it had a double sink vanity, then a huge shower room and then a smaller room with the toilet. I am sorry I didn't take pics. The entry to the bathroom is from the bedroom, and the door can be seen in the last pic I posted above (left hand side of the pic).

Here are few shots of the living room:

The balcony was accessible thru either the living room or bedroom thru the sliding glass doors and ran the length of both rooms. It was great to watch the fireworks from the balcony while eating our Dole Whips! We had a perfect view of the Castle, and I didn't realize that until we got to the room as they just told me it faced the marina.

Overall, I was pretty impressed with our first Poly stay. It won't be our last.
Mary :)

Lucky you!!! When is the trip scheduled for?

You'll find arguments for both sides when it comes to 1st or 3rd floor. DH and I have stayed on the 3rd and I hope we get to do so again this time around. I enjoy having the balcony and being "above" everything when it's time for Wishes (we stay TPV). Clearly, my recommendation is 3rd floor then.

However, I've read many reports of people where 1st floorers adore the fact that they could simply open the door to their room and walk right outside.

Maybe the waves are only when it's that time of the month. :lmao:

Am I correct in thinking that the standard rooms at the Polynesian (regardless of view category) do NOT have DVD players, but all the club level rooms do?

Oh and, if anyone cares, I posted the current club level menu for the Polynesian in the concierge/club level thread: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=37691926&postcount=2998.

This may be repeated already ad nauseam, and I just hand't seen it, so forgive me if that's the case.

Steve is reporting that latest word is January 2011, but nothing is written in stone on the date.

Non-CL rooms do not have DVD players and all CL rooms do.

The menu was posted on the old thread (I know because I posted it when it was released last fall :lmao:), but I don't know if it is in the beginning pages or not. In either event, I can say with certainty that when we stayed some of the items on the menu were not served. I posted the changes in my review that is located in the beginning of the thread under the "Hawaii Longhouse Reviews".

Perhaps the menu has reverted to the original with the addition of the new chef and the changes we experienced were due to Chef Dick's retirement. :confused3 As the menu says, subject to change. . .:rotfl:

If someone is going to stay CL soon, it would be great if you could get an official copy of the menu for us. :goodvibes

If not, I'll be there in a couple of weeks and will make sure to come back with whatever I can get. The first page of the thread still links to a pretty ancient menu.
