ALOHA! The Poly FAQ: Fall 2010 Edition

Thanks for the review and the pics! Sounds like a lovely time!

Looks like a few of us will be going next October :cool1:

Does anyone know what scent the Polynesian pipes in? I would love to buy something similar to remind me of the Poly every day.:cloud9:

Just saw these dates (Polynesian East Pool 1/10-2/18/2011) for the quiet pool rehab, LONG before we will be there in May, but I am still very afraid of what they will do to spoil this beautiful, peaceful oasis.

Thanks for the review and pics:goodvibes I love pics of kids sleeping...they look like angels. So exhausted from a day of magic....dreaming of more pixie dust:cloud9:

I am kinda at a loss of words. I think everyone reading this thread understands you had a very disappointing stay at the Poly. There were many factors including maintenance issues, less-than-helpful CMs, bad weather, etc. You are validated in feeling somewhat cheated of the magical experience others have experienced at the Poly. I do not think it is fair, however, to dwell on the negative. There are others on this thread who are excited about their upcoming trips and want to focus on the positive. I am sure you can appreciate the brighter side of your experience as well as the darker side and chalk it up to a lesson learned and move on to something more positive for yourself as well/:hug: No hostility here...just a wish to move on.

My point (really, sincerely) wasn't to slam anyone or discount their thoughts, it's just that the statement about the cold being the main concern wasn't accurate.

There's a lot of great information to be had on these boards, but I also see a huge tendency to discount anyone's negative experience by dismissing them as too picky, or impossible-to-please negative Nellies that hate everything.

Honestly, we still had a good time at Disney World with our son. Despite the room. Despite some less than great food. And despite the record-making cold snap it was still a hoot overall. We'd go back. In fact, my son is already talking about wanting to.

I didn't go in hoping to be displeased and, really, after reading here my standards were VERY low for both cuisine and living conditions and still both were undersold. I thought there might be things wrong with the room, but I also thought talking to someone would take care of them. It didn't. And I thought staying club level would, at the very least, benefit us in terms of that personal service, if only because they are a dedicated staff dealing just with the guests in that building. It didn't in the least.

Little things like me asking about the open house at the Neverland Club another guest had mentioned in the lounge and being told no such thing exists and I couldn't go over there now because no one would be there. "Are you sure?" I asked. "Yes, mam, very sure, they are never there until 4 PM," I was told. "OK, sorry, they must just have been confused," and then walking back to our room, looking at the activities guide THAT SAME EMPLOYEE had handed me when we walked in and seeing Neverland Club Open House printed right there with a 2-4 PM schedule. I'm pretty confident that reading your own handouts would be the bare minimum of service or, if you didn't ahead of time, at least glancing at one before giving a guest information would be nice. That is just one example of the level of "service" we received.

After complaining about housekeeping to Barbie, and having her seem genuinely concerned (we asked if she wanted to see what we were talking about and invited her to the room), she took notes, shook her head a lot and said there'd been many complaints and added she planned to attend the morning housekeeping meeting herself to take care of this ... And then nothing. The room was never cleaned, or re-cleaned, and nothing improved over the next few days. The same crumbs were on the counter from day 1 to day 7. Ditto the same streaks on the mirror. No more soap/shampoo/shower gel was left. A big fat nothing.

I think the plan is to have the construction completed before the spring break crowds. I could not see the Poly being down an entire pool during spring break.

Who knows, with the cruddy weather they have been having, they may start earlier so they can get it done :thumbsup2

I can tell you that I would be furious :headache: to have the pool under construction still in May when I do considering I stay GV Club! That is the least desireable view that I wpuld want. But I am not worried...I think it will be done :goodvibes

No, but I have to say that Yankee Candle has a scent called Christmas at the beach that is wonderful and reminds us of the Poly :goodvibes We had it burning all weekend :thumbsup2

I am glad to hear that you had a nice trip :thumbsup2 I hope your health continues to improve and you stay cancer free :goodvibes

The person that usually posts the live NYE fireworks tecDavidt, does not seem to be going to the Poly this year.:scared1: From my research, it seems like he is doing a cruise in March but I will check the streaming site on NYE and see if anyone is streaming live and post the link if someone is :thumbsup2

I found it last year and posted the link here so keep a look out for it on NYE...I will do my best. Hopefully someone will be streaming live. I just checked it and no one is streaming live right now from the Poly. :sad2:

David is doing his stream the cam is live now. Its on the same site I stream from, I cant post the name here but if you like to keep your  eyes on ears :earsboy: maybe you can figure it out.

I've finally had a chance to get some pictures from our trip uploaded. I will just put up Poly pics here. I plan on doing more of a trip report when I get a chance.

While we had expected that the GF's Christmas decorations would be beautiful we actually liked the Poly's better. GF seemed very traditional while the Poly's were so colourful and lush.

Our view ... we were in the rat infested longhouse that shall not be named and that you never want to request ... :rolleyes1, third floor, TPV on the corner closest to Luau Cove.

I was feeling very guilty about being one of the December slackers who did not post any pics, and took half the evening to figure out how to upload pics from my iPad... Only to return and see that maiapapaya had already filled that void, lol! <great pics, btw, maiapapaya! What were your dates again?> Ah, well, I will post some anyway! I have better ones on my laptop but it I am having internet issues so these iPad ones will have to suffice for now. :surfweb:

These were all taken late in the day on the ay we checked out, so lighting is what it is.

The guy in the pic was actually visably shivering!

Thanks for your pics bethclayton & PolyndianPrincessJes! Although this and the boat horns playing in the background on my computer right now is making me terribly homesick! October can't come soon enough!

Quick video of us telling our 7-year-old on Christmas morning about our upcoming Poly trip. I'm a magazine editor and our creative director recreated the January page with her picture infused into it.

She totally didn't get it:

LOL! She's excited now after seeing pictures of the Poly. We usually stay at AKL so I think that's what threw her off*.

* Actually, no. She just totally didn't get it.
