Going to Disney in June...just wondering if anyone can tell me anything about the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show at the Polynesian...is it any good...worth the money, etc??? :confused3

We LOVED it, but I have also heard people say they hated it. We went in January and we froze, you won't have that problem of course, but remember to dress appropriately since it is outside. We thought the food and the show were both wonderful. The fire thrower is the best part! We will definitely be returning! :thumbsup2

We also went in January. It was great. The food was excellent and the show was everything we expected. The second half is better with the traditional dances (fire twirlers, etc.) It was definitely worth the money.

Our experience was OK. We won't be going back. The food was good...not sure if it's worth 2 credits each though...the show was a bit lame, in our opinion.

Last year, we were debatting as well...as you are doing right now. The reviews were mixed so we decided to try it for ourselves.

My advice - try it - you might like it!

Does anyone know if they still take your picture beforehand? We have one from nine years ago and would love to have another one from our next trip.

Just browsing and noticed this stale thread. Does anyone know the answer to the question on picture taking? I found us some Hawaiin Mickey outfits on sale and thought this would be our family picture for the trip.

Just returned from our WDW trip and they still take pictures before the show but they are not included in PhotoPass. I believe you can buy the "package" for around $30, smaller componets can probably be purchased for less.

HTH!

Thanks. Did you enjoy everything? I think it sounds like so much fun. What was the food like, esp. the dessert?

Honestly?

Meh.

It was okay. I have to agree with the others that said the show is a little hokey, it's more like dinner theatre than a luau if that makes sense. When we went (way back when) I remember it being centered more around the dances and cultures of the Polynesian islands. This time it was just kind of...cheesy.

The food was good, not great and certainly not bad. For beginners we had a wonderful salad, a spear of fresh pineapple and two small loaves of coconut-pineapple bread (at least I think that's what it was). It was all very good. Our entree consisted of three or four roasted chicken leg quarters, rice and five or six bbq'ed ribs. It was good, nothing outstanding--we've had similar at home. Dessert was a chocolatey sponge cake with chocolate mousse and a raspberry/mango sauce that is (somewhat) volcano shaped. Again, it was good, but certainly not outstanding.

My DH was the one who really wanted to do the luau. When I told him how much it cost us (close to $180) he nearly died! We both agreed it wasn't really worth it and we could've left the kids at one of the kids' clubs and gone out somewhere nice for the same price. We won't be doing it again anytime soon. Or later. ;) But we don't regret going.

That being said, don't be discouraged. If you go, you'll have a fun time and a good dinner. And our pictures turned out great! :thumbsup2
