Question,

I see pics of people with their food and their drinks and I onften wonder, is there actually any significant alcohol inthe drinks? I mean, if I'm paying $8 for something, I don't want a slush I want what I paid for and it also means that I want to be able to taste the potable in the beverage. I've had the margaritas outside Mexico in Epcot and thought they are overpriced slushes. So any opinions out there? Any Disney bar that actually pours a good drink?

With the exception of Jiko, we've experienced mostly slushes. It could be what we've ordered also.

That's why I stick to bottled beer in the parks! haha :drinking1

Rainforest Cafe made us some strong Mai Tais last year, and the pool bar at what is now the Regal Sun Resort (new rendition of the Grosvenor) in downtown Disney always made a drink with quite a punch!

Also, if you want a good drink experience then you should order a Lapu Lapu at the Polynesian! :faint:

I thought the Lapu Lapu was very strong at the Polynesian, the Island Sunset, not so much.

Well, we are going to Kona on the 10th of June, so tell me about a Lapu Lapu...God this whole thing makes me sound like an alcoholic, which I am not, but I want to get what I pay for. i don't find fancy drinks with not stuff to be 'yummy' (a word s detest) but rather tasty for people who don't know any better.

Unless you are getting an "on the rocks" or a "straight up" drink, you will always have stuff that is a slush. No matter where you go. Why do you think Chili's or a place like that pushes their margaritas? The beauty about a "fruity" drink is that it looks good but has little alcohol in it. And that's just not at Disney World. It's up to you if you want to pay the price.

Per wikipedia: "Lapu-Lapu is a potent drink possibly named in his honor. It consists of 1 shot Meyer's dark rum, 1 shot Bacardi 151 proof rum, 1 shot sour mix, ice, and orange juice all in a hollowed out pineapple."

They're delicious. Others on here have said too strong, but I find them at a quite desirable balance!

They are however about $12-13 a piece.

All the cocktails we have had are great, lots of booze in them but not too strong that I cannot drink them. The peach schnapps slushie from the Joy of Tea in China was not overpowering at all but still had the nice schnapps flavor

Lapu Lapu = Yummy Yummy! :rotfl2: Seriously, this tropical drink served up in a pineapple shell definitely packs a punch.

I always stick to beer everyplace and an occasional tequila shot. When is the new tequila bar opening in Mexico?

Try the La Fin DuMonde at LeCellier -- 9% alcohol; pretty high for beer.

Wow, I'm surprised to hear that people thought the Lapu Lapu was strong. I am not a big drinker, I like fruity wines and blended drinks (especially with rum, rum=yum!) and I thought the Lapu Lapu was really "yummy" but didn't think it was incredibly strong. Of course there is a picture of me holding my tiny umbrella over my head so it might have been stronger than I thought... ;) LOL

I thought the Lapu Lapu was weak.

Most of the drinks at Disney are made with very little alcohol and a lot of mixer. One of the exceptions is the Zombie at Tambu Lounge at Poly, which was unfortunately taken off the menu, I think. But some of the bartenders still know how to make them. ;)

Like most places the mixed drinks have little alcohol in them. I found the Lapu Lapu to be an exception but you pay for it. I do enjoy a margarita from Mexico in Epcot but it does not have much of a kick. We usually stick to beer/wine but both DH and will indulge in a poolside Pina Colada w/ a floater of Meyer's rum on top.

Last trip, the only mixed drink with an appreciable amount of alcohol, was the Lemon Drop Martini at the Turf Club lounge.

CheshireVal - thanks for the tip about the Zombie, I'll definitely ask them to make it for me on our next trip!:thumbsup2

I wholeheatedly endorse the Lapu Lapu and the Backscratcher at the Tambu Lounge.

I have also had some strong drinks at Victoria Falls (Inside the Animal Kingdom lodge - their spiced nuts are absolutely addictive!!), Le Cellier (Toronto Martini) and Flying Fish (Red Snapper).

I do tend to order Cosmos and other drinks served on the rocks as opposed to fruitier, blended drinks so this might explain my 'potent' concotions.

I have also been surprised (well, ok, knocked off my feet and stumpled back to AKL) by the potency in some of the Pleasure Island libations, especially at 8Trax. Perhaps we had a sympathetic bartender but, yowza

The margaritas in Mexico ARE weak...I seriously don't think they taste like a margarita hardly at all. I'm a beer drinker myself but like to try different drinks now and again. Last time we were at Epcot we "drank the world"...meaning we tried a drink at every country that we could. (USA had the worst...I had a miller lite! aaaaahhhhh) England had some of the best drinks, in my opinion.

When did they start serving Miller products at WDW? I always thought they were Budwiswer  and Sam Adams:thumbsup2

I may be a lightweight but the Kungaloosh at the Adventurer's Club knocked me for a loop.

My husband is a police officer. ::cop: After 1 field sobriety test he declared that I was unfit to drive back to the resort.:drive:

when we 'drank the world' on our last visit we skipped the USA and made up for it in another country ... i just can't remember which one now, i wonder why? :confused3
