Allowance what do you pay???

For the kids in the range of say 9-12 years old...what do you pay and what do they do for that pay....?????

We're a little under the suggested $1/year. Rachel gets $10 and is almost 12. Justin gets $15 and will be 17 on Friday.

both mine have very part time jobs so they do not get allowance, but they get $20 a week for lunch money-if they eat at school, they make a profit, if they eat off campus they go in the hole. The 17 year old usually takes lunch from home (school lunch is not nearly enough for him) and uses the "lunch money to buy gas. The 14 year old will not have off campus privledge for a a while and does not drive so he usually eats at school and pockets the resst

DS get $11 each week. (He's 11)

His chores and allowance aren't connected.

He has to keep his room clean, pick up behind himself, study, homework...all for free.

My 2 oldest sons 15 and 12 get $20 per week. They each have a list of chores to do and if not done then they dont get paid.

Our DD 12 gets $10.00 per week, but ONLY, if she gets her work done around the house. This is the deal our DD 12 came up with, not us parents, we just agreed to it!!!

Matt (12) gets $15 every two weeks. He gets another $25 for lunch. Lunch cost $2.25 a day, so he ends up with an extra $2.50. He spends that on slurpies at lunch.

My older 2 DSs don't get an allowance. That stopped at 16.

Allowance isn't tied to chores. His chores are cleaning his room weekly and one week feeding the cat, trash and cleaning the boys bathroom. The next week he cleans the kitchen after dinner. He clears the table, does dish etc.

DS17 switches off with him. DS19 helps out when he's home from college.

Thanks for the replys so far.....some say $1 per year, but everything I have read says 1/2 there age.... My kids get $5 so if I figure 1/2 the age they are almost in the ball park....If I gave them all there age I'd be paying $35 a week to all 4 doesn't sound too bad...but right now I'm only at $18.50....that number sounds better...

We are trying to teach our youngest 7 the value of money he cant get his head round it he wants a Gameboy advance have said he has to save for it he gets £4.00 per (dw upped it so he can save for it) week told him to save £2.00 per week until he has saved for it but we will properly will end up buying it for him as long as he puts some to it.we had comic relive the other night (charity on the TV) he said he wanted to give his pocket money that week which is good of him

Last year our DD 12 wanted PS 2 so bad that she gave up her allowance from June 02 to Jan 03. I paid for it in advance, and she was very good about not asking for any extra money during that time period, because she knew she wouldn't get it anyhow!!!

Gee, my kids don't get an allowance. They are 6 and 9. What do your kids use their money on? Do they save it? I never got an allowance, either. If I needed money for something specific like a movie or a dance, my parents just gave it to me.

$1 per age.

The oldest is responsible for taking out the trash, setting and clearing the table, keeping his room clean and making his bed every day, and dusting.

The little one just has to clean his room, and pick up his toys at the end of each day. He just turned 4, so this in itself is no small feat.

DS14 and DS11 each get $6 per week. They have certain chores they must do, PLUS they need to have their rooms clean, in order to get paid. Each of their jobs is worth a certain amount of money. For example: dusting and vacuuming the livingroom is worth $1. Clearing off the dinner table each night is worth $1. Some jobs are worth 50 cents, some are worth $2.

Often DH will give them extra money for things like snow shoveling, as long as DSs do it willingly, they get rewarded for their extra efforts. DS14 Windexed the inside of DHs truck yesterday, just to be nice, and DH will give him an extra couple of dollars for that.

DS14 has saved up to buy an XBOX. DS11 has bought himself Yu Gi Oh cards and other games. They both are allowed to spend their money any way they want. That's why we purposely are keeping their allowance at a low amount each week.

When I remember....

My dd, 5, gets $5/week. (will go up to 6 on her bd) She has five envelopes that it gets split into: 1. spending 2. short term savings 3. long term (permanent) savings 4. charity and 5.(of course) Disney. But since she doesn't eat candy, it seems that she doesn't have much to spend her $$ on other than save it for a movie or a toy.

$1 per year, so son will be getting a raise soon.... he has certain minimal chores that must be done or he can lose some of his allowance. We don't buy "toys" except for birthday/christmas etc. so he uses it for Yu-Gi-Oh cards, lego's, etc. He's pretty good at saving up for larger purchases and is about half way towards a PS2 he wants.

When we are planning a vacation we will throw in extra earning opportunities to put in a "vacation fund" for anything he wants to buy on vacation. We usually plan it so he earns about $40 for a typical one week vacation and he can spend it all, or roll it over into his allowance savings at the end of the trip.

My kids are 7 & 10 and we run our house this way too. They do certain "chores" because they are part of this family and this is what is expected....clear the table, load the dishwasher, keep their rooms orderly(not spotless), pick up their own stuff and return it to it's proper place, etc. They do get "paid" if they take on a big job like weeding a flower bed or washing the car.

I explained to them that if they began getting allowance, they would no longer get "movie money" or pocket change, they would have to save their allowance to have the spending money. They agreed with us that they have the better deal this way. We'll see how it goes when they are teens, but for now, this works.

My son get an allowance so that I don't have to hear "Mommy can I have $$$ for....." every morning

I don't believe in connecting chores with allowance. Even if I didn't give him an allowance he'd still have to keep his room clean.
