Alligator Signs ... inside Magic Kingdom! :(

Not surprising, several years ago we saw some kids feeding a small alligator a turkey leg over on the walkway in frontier land. Yep... extremely stupid (Darwin anyone?). Its pretty common to see small alligators in the marshes around Frontierland or on the train ride behind fantasyland. Sad that they have to remind people that these are not animatronics but real wild animals, but not surprising either.

While I think warning signs in the theme parks are unnecessary, I do applaud the edict to not feed the wildlife. This is for the safety of the animals, and it should be enforced. I do wish the signs were a little prettier though.

The fact that you have to tell people not to feed wildlife, absolutely blows my mind. You have to be a special kind of oblivious not to know the risks associated with that behaviour.

As for the alligator warning signs and the other changes that have resulted directly from the recent tragedy, it's now going too far and clearly the result of an overly litigious society.

Gators can occupy any body of water anywhere in WDW including the parks so I would say the warning signs inside MK are absolutely necessary.

I'm sure signs in the Resorts will be forthcoming along with a "warning flyer" in the Welcome Packet.

I'm still very surprised they started back the water-skiing in Bay Lake.
How about Jet skiis? We took a 1 hour guided tour about 2 to 3 years ago and it was fabulous! Beautiful view of all the resorts and guided tour with history of WDW. Does anyone know if they still run this?:confused3 We booked through Sammy Duval Waters ports at Contemporary. Then about 8 years ago we did tubing with Sammy Duval also. Anyone know if tubing is still done?:confused3 Think I would be VERY apprehensive:eek::scared1: about tubing considering the alligator awareness. thanks for any info.:goodvibes

But they're not. There has been one incident in 40+ years and it was not even in a theme park. The water is largely inaccessible in the parks anyway, unless someone climbs over barrier ans some shruberry. I totally agree with "do not feed teh wildlife" signs though. They should apply not just to the gators, but the birds and other critters as well. They should however make these signs a bit prettier and in-theme with the area.

Hmmm. Not sure how I feel about signs in the parks. I mean, yes, gators are in the parks, we've all seen that now famous video of the gator by Splash Mountain, and others have said they've personally seen gators in MK. But as BrianL says, people aren't going to be wading around in the water in the park. And if a gator comes out of the water onto dry land in an area that people can access, the signs are now pointless. Alerting guests to the fact that there could be gators in the water IN the PARK doesn't really do much except probably make them look for gators just to say they saw one.

I agree that in the parks, the emphasis should be on not feeding the wildlife. Maybe signs with a four-panel picture showing the silhouettes of a duck, bird, squirrel, and gator just to subtly remind guests that gators are among the wildlife they could possibly see in the park.

But it is what it is. I'm sure Disney doesn't have much say in the matter.

Well, add drowning signs, because WAY more children die from drowning that alligators. I think also ;

1. A yellow jacket sign around garbage cans.
2. Do not climb sign around fences (especially in higher elevations)
3. Do not sit on hand rails signs on boats.
4. Do not eat signs on the plants and berries around the park.
5. Do not eat signs in Main street Bakery (for diabetics)
6. Watch your step signs painted along all the curbs.
7. Do not stand on tracks for all coasters
8. Use Sunscreen signs at all exits
9. Do not drink the water for all water rides.
10. and of course ...Do not discharge firearms inside park.

No one reads signs anyway, so I doubt my ideas will save anyone...........
