Hi All,

I am trying to book a few nights pre-post cruise for April. I was thinking of POR Alligator Bayou (I have 3 small children). I've seen on other websites that some Alligator Bayou rooms have been renovated. I just called POR to see if I could request one. They told me none were renovated yet. I told them I saw pictures on other sites and that it stated 3 buildings were already done. They said no. Has anyone been there lately. Does anyone know if ANY buildings were done?

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

Sun 18th Dec 2011: Alligator Bayou buildings 14 and 38 now fully refurbished
This weekend saw the refurbished opening of the first of the Preferred Location buildings in Port Orleans Riverside's Alligator Bayou section. Building 14 appears to have replaced building 39 in the refurbishment schedule, so with the reopening of building 38 last week, refurbished rooms are now available in AB buildings 14, 36, 37 and 38 (plus the Acadian House and Magnolia Terrace mansion buildings).

There will now be a short break during the holiday period and then work will commence mid-January on converting Oak Manor to the new Royal Rooms. The projected opening date for this section is 17 February, with Parterre Place following a month later.

Some are done, some are not, the cm at the callcenter was wrong. You can check the POR board here for very very detailed info on which buildings you might want to request to get a renovated room.

Wow they look so pretty! I'm so happy they left the beds the same. I loved that touch from before. :goodvibes

Elaw,
Thanks. That is what I cited, and they told me it was wrong!!! The people on the Disboards know more than the cast members!!! She actually transferred me to someone who again, told me those buildings (14, 36, 37 and 38 - I actually DID give her the numbers) were not going to renovated until April and May.

Hmmm ..... we'll be there on April 19th so I guess one way or another I'll eventually know first hand. :confused3

Lets cross our fingers!!! I showed my children the pic of the little alligator bed, and they loved it.

Not all rooms have finished refurbishment.

Also, unless you have a "special" number, you are not able to call the resort directly. All publicly posted phone numbers go to a call center. The CM answers the call based off of the line calling in. They are not actually at the resort. You even get this call center when you call the "front desk" or "housekeeping" from your room.

To request a refurbished room, you need to call the main reservation number and have it added to your reservation. Note, this is only a request and might not be filled.

Since you had more updated info then the CM:) hopefully you put in a request for a couple of those buildings.

We just checked out on Monday. We were in bldg 36 and my son slept in the alligator Murphy bed for 7 nights and loved it. Bldg 37, 38 and 14 are also done. I wish cm's at the call center could get their acts together. It's unfortunate that they're giving out so much misinformation.

Thanks everyone for the awesome info! I thought it was strange that I called the number for the resort, and the CM was clueless. I realize now the call was routed to a call center. They then connected me with someone else. I'll call and put the request on my ressie.

THANKS AGAIN!!!

Amen to that.

I get so annoyed about how the call center staff are so assuredly and definitively certain about the facts they are relaying... even when they are wrong!

While there is no guarantee you'll get a refurbished room, it would be nice to be given accurate facts.

How was the transportation and walk time to amenities from #36?

Traveling to POR for first time this week. Would we be better further out in a refurbished room or closer to the lobby? Trying to balance location (walking, bus) with newer room

Good to hear! Also if we get a preferred room, which building will we get? Thanks again!

Preferred rooms are located in buildings 14, 15, 18 and 27. Of those, only 14 will have refurbished rooms by April.

It was about a 5-7 minute walk to the food court from our room. We always enjoyed it since it's such a beautiful resort, especially at night with the lights reflecting off the water. :goodvibes We used the north depot bus stop which we could get to in about 3 min. The longest we ever waited for a bus was 20 min and that only happened once. Honestly, most of the time the bus we needed pulled up just as we were reaching the depot. We were really lucky. We did often have times where we had to make numerous stops before heading to our destination. We shared with POFQ during off peak times of the day. Also, when returning to POR, sometimes the bus would stop at south depot (lobby) first and sometimes they would stop there last. I would definitely prefer a refurbed room even if it added a little to the walk. Have a wonderful time at POR!!
