We just got back from our 'once-in-a-lifetime' trip to WDW - stayed AKL and Poly concierge and then onto the Wonder for 4 glorious nights.

Anywho - things went so swimmingly that we re-booked on board the Wonder for a 7 night Eastern next November. So, our 'once-in-a-lifetime' is fast becoming a once a year - sound familiar anyone?? LOL

Anyway - the question is - *if* I can swing a few park days pre-cruise, we need to stay somewhere right?! So, POR has always sounded nice to me and esp. Alligator Bayou - just really fun and kitschy. DS will be 4-almost 5 when we go next and I think he would enjoy it. We should be able to catch some Christmas decorations and hopefully enjoy a quite time (cruise is Nov 24th - so it would probably be Nov 20-23).

I would like people's opinions on POR, and esp. Alligator Bayou. How was the transportation to the parks - mainly MK as we will probably go there a few times. Anything else you can think of would be appreciated.

Thanks!!! pirate:

IMO, Aligator Bayou is the best section of all of the moderates...In fact, the theme is so good (the landscping, the isolation, the feeling, etc) it almost doesn't seem like it should be a moderate.

I also like the PO/RS Alligator Bayou section. I know the mansions are nice but IMHO, the rooms are not as "fun" ast the AB rooms. The beds and mirror frames are bark and the landscaping is fun. Also the pools between the two are different. The mansion section has regular rectangular pools, whereas the AB pools are free form. Both can use the big pool though. We really enjoyed it there and also enjoyed the food court. :cheer2:

We like any section of any parts of the Port Orleans complex, including PO-FQ. If you want AB, then request bldg 14 if it is open from rehab, if you want a mansion, then ask for Parterre Place, and if you want PO-FQ, just ask not to have a view of the parking lot and you will be fine!

We stayed in AB bldg. 14 and loved it. The theming is wonderful. My wife and I would just stroll around at night. We walked over to the mansion side and it was very nice also, just not for us...smjj

We stayed in AB during our stay in Nov. 2003. We had requested Magnolia Bend, and I'm so glad we didn't get it!! AB was great.......as others have stated: the landscaping is lovely, the buildings are smaller, and the rooms are cozy. I think you will really like it. POR is a very pretty resort.

Agree with all the posts above. POR is my favorite resort. Have stayed there at least 15 times. I have stayed at other moderates, but the landscaping at this resort, in my opinion, is the best on WDW property.

I have stayed all over POR. I think, especially for kids, the AB section is the most fun. Very lush foilage, twisting paths over small bridges, etc. Rabbits hop across the paths, you hear bull frogs croaking, its just alot of fun.

Also, the bus to MK is not shared with POFQ. You'll have a great time!

On my last trip two years ago, we booked PO FQ and about a month before we left we found out they had closed for refurbishment and transferred our res to Riverside. I was very happy with the change. We were in Alligator Bayou (I think in building 21) and it was beautiful. If I didn't have a goal to stay in every Disney hotel, I would go back. I thought is was very charming.

We were in AB bldg 27 and loved it. Talk about being away from it all!!! We were immersed in beautiful, lush landscaping 24/7. AB quiet pools are curvy and stuffed in among all the beautiful trees, gardens and pathways unlike the mansion quiet pools, which are more formal..

Stay in AB, you won't be disappointed...

We stayed in both the mansions and AB. I loved both! You can't go wrong with either  at POR.

We've only stayed at POR once but it was in AB and we loved it. Very Splash Mountainy feeling (my favorite attraction). I loved the rustic feel of it and feeling like I was out in the bayous at night with the crickets chirping. I've heard great things about the mansions as well but from the pictures of the rooms they look like how I've decorated my bedroom at home - AB just seems more "themed".

Enjoy!

I'm thinking about switching our CSR ressie over because of the dining plan. We may have my mom with us and she can't do too much walking. I think bldg 14 would be perfect for us...am I right? And where is the bus stop if we're in Bldg 14? Thanks!
