I'm having really bad allergies right now with the pollen and everything falling like crazy here in NC does anyone know if florida is just as bad ? Also I take thyroid medicine as of last year so now I don't know what over the counter allergy medicine I could take along with this, I hate for my trip to be full of sneezing, coughing, running eyes and nose, sore throat...yuck

My allergies clear up in Florida. Call your pharmacist and ask what you can take with your thyroid meds. I take thyroid medication too and I always call before taking anything.

I'd check with your Dr. before you head down there and see what he/she says.

I have bad allergies in CA and am on meds for it (Alavert, a nasal spray, eye drops and 2 inhalers  ), and while I usually am fine in Florida I had one very sudden bad asthma attack on a May trip when we stepped outside after Cirque du Soliel. It was weird - as soon as I was outside I started sneezing and coughing, my eyes were watery so I could hardly see, and then I started having trouble breathing. Fortunately I had my "emergency inhaler" with me, so I used that, blew my nose a few hundred times, and used my eye drops. In 5 minutes I was mostly better. Still took a long shower and did a sinus rinse when we got back to the hotel (just to get any pollens off my skin and hair) and washed my clothes.

Otherwise I've never had much problem in Florida with just taking my usual meds.

Since you are on thyroid meds, I'd really recommend checking with your Dr. and get advice about allergy stuff from him/her. Hope you have a great trip and no allergy problems! :goodvibes

By the way, I did ask my pharmacies what I could take over the counter and he told me just to take some avil if needed...what :confused3 .

Hi! I'm from NC too, and when we went to WDW last year it was like a godsend. The type of pollen there was different, and wasn't near as bad as the stuff here. I didn't take any meds or use any eye drops the entire trip. Wish I could say that about any week during pollen season here!

You should really talk with your doctor.
My DS9's allergies are so bad that he doesn't take OTC,....he has several prescriptions.

When we're in WDW, we ALWAYS know what days I've forgotten to give him his medicine because a 1/2 hour after we're at the parks he is sniffling/sneezing like crazy. Then he says to me, "MOM, we forgot my Zyrtec!"

(This is always during our annual May trips. I don't think it's happened during our winter trips).

FYI--Thyroid Meds and Cold/Allergy Preparations--

You can take *any* cold or allergy medication with thyroid medications as long as your TSH levels are in the normal range and you are NOT hyperthyroid.

You will often see a warning on the back of cold/allergy preparations to "check with your doctor if you have thyroid disease." This is mainly aimed at patients who have Graves' Disease and are extremely hyperthyroid. The active ingredients in cold/allergy medicines can make some people's hearts race. This is fine in normal people--it is not fine if you heart is already beating rapidly due to a thyroid condition.

So, to the OP, take Claritin or something like that if you want.

I'm in Charlotte and my allergies are killing me. The trees in my yard currently have me trapped in the house. Oh well more time to DIS. We were in WDW 2 weeks ago and my allergies were just as bad there as they were in Charlotte at the same time. I'm using Zyrtec, Nasacort and eye drops and am still suffering. I think it really just depend on what you are allergic to and if those same types of pollens are in Florida. I'm getting allergy testing and starting shots next week. So hopefully I have some relief soon. If you know what kind of pollens you are allergic to you can check the pollen forcast at weather.com and it should tell you what the current pollen situation is and what kind of pollen is currently in the air.

As most of the posters here stated, I too have TERRIBLE pollen allergies. I was stationed in Florida and I never had a problem. Maryland though was probably the worst state I ever lived in as far as my allergies. Just make sure you're taking your meds everyday even if your allergies aren't bothering you.
