i have done my research extensively...firstly, do not book on line or via phone if you do not have to. if you purchase the airfare at the airport counter directly, you will not incur the $14.00 fee per passanger along with the $10.00 booking fee per passenger. you would just pay the taxes. i have done this at least 5 times. we usually fly out of youngstown, oh. i was actually thinking about booking for january...but my hubby wants to drive 18 hrs...is he crazy anyways, if you are checking bags, definately purchase at time of ticket purchase bc it is definately more at flight time. we usually take 3 good size carry ons (me, dh, ds (4)) and one checked bag. that helps a little. hope this helps!!

A little OT:
I just wanted to reassure you the trip can be a pleasant one. We did it last year from central PA and plan to do it again. Our kids were 5 and 3, now 6 and 4 for the drive. We just had surprise bags made from dolor store items for every couple of hours. The kids loved getting their prize bags all the way down and back.

What months did you see the $70 fares in? I was looking at early March & the fares are nuts. Very limited too - even Airtran has better availability from ABE - and at $260 a ticket (ouch) - lower than Allegiant. I've never paid more than $225 to go from ABE so these prices are killing me! At least they're non-stop, I've always flown with a connection which just wastes time, so I guess I need to suck it up & pay the extra $$ for the convenience of non-stop.

I found ABE-MCO Feb 19th thru Feb 24th. The base fare for 2/19 was $48.99 and the base fare for 2/24 is $55.55.
I checked on the bag fees, and it says a fee between $15 and $20 (?)

* What are your baggage fees? When purchased at time of booking, a fee between $15 and $20 for the first checked bag and $25 for the second checked bag will apply per person, per segment. If purchased at flight check-in, $35 for first checked bag and an additional $35 for second checked bag will apply per person, per segment. In all cases additional higher fees will apply for three or more checked bags. Bags that are "Gate Checked" will incur a $35.00 fee.

This may be a good alternative for a quick trip that doesn't involve baggage. It looks like there is only one flight per day. While the return flight on 2/24 doesn't leave Orlando till 4:30 pm, the flight to Orlando doesn't arrive till 9:30 pm. Bleech.
