Anyone fly Allegiant Air out of Harrisburg PA or Allentown PA? What kind of extra fees are involved with them? The prices are really good to fly. I know the times aren't the best and you fly into a smaller airport. I know they fly into Orlando/Sanford not MCO.

Please tell me your feedback on this airline.

Thank you.

We have flown out of Knoxville, using Allegiant. I really liked it. Smaller planes, but I don't mind that. We haven't had any issues with them, but I have heard that others do. They do charge quite a bit for baggage and also for snacks onboard (we buy our own in the airport...if we think we need them).

Used a few times. Best landing ever at Sanford, fast security, small airports.

We paid $20 checked bag and $16 for overhead bin, free back pack. On return I checked two bags instead of the bin.
They charge for drinks and snacks. I would pick up a water before you board.

I've paid as low as $55 for one ticket.

Edited to add.
I saved purchasing the tickets by going directly to the airport. Very helpful local agents.

When flying Harrisburg it was $58 to park. When flying Allentown it was close enough to be dropped off, or if you book the fly/drive it was $108 for the room and week parking at Days inn with the courtesy shuttle.

They also charge for a pre-assigned seat and priority boarding. The fees can add up fast especially when comparing against Southwest out of Philly or JetBlue out of Newark.

Another option for you might be Frontier Airlines. They fly out of Harrisburg and into Orlando (not Sanford like Allegiant). We found some great fares with them from Harrisburg to Orlando, but they only fly 2 to 3 times per week on that route. Our dates didn't work to use them. My parents love Harrisburg airport.

Love flying out of Allentown when the times coming home are better. The times going down are nice, you get into Sanford at a reasonable time where you can still enjoy a park. The times leaving Sanford are terrible. We are going in May and will not use them as they will leave Sanford at 6:30am:eek:
I don't want to lose a day to traveling. We usually pay for our bags ahead of time. We don't pay for overhead bags as our carry on items fit nicely under the seat. We also will pay for a seat instead of being assigned one when we get to the airport.

AVP is about an hour north I think the return times are much better. They fly Sunday and Thursday, but not during September.

I use all three ABE AVP and Harrisburg.

I was JUST coming on here to see what I could find out about Allegient. We are going to DL and Aulani this summer and I still need to book our flight from LAX to HNL. A friend tipped me off to their fares just last night…they don't fly the route every day and on the days they DO fly it's only 1 flight / day - but they do have a flight on the day we need in August. Right now all of the major airlines are running between $474 and $600 pp + $25 for the 1st checked bag for this one-way flight (I already have all of our other flights booked for reasonable rates). Allegiants price is $203 for the base fare + Prepaid rates of $25 for a carry-on + $35 for the first checked bag + $50 for overweight bags (their weight limit is only 40 Lbs vs the normal 50 Lbs and I know we'll be closer to 50) + $14 for an assigned seat + $13 for a meal (it's a 5.5 hr flight). That brings Allegiants price up to $340 but that's still almost $160 less than the "big guys". Last year I was able to book this one-way flight for $272 on Delta so I am having sticker shock over the fares this year. I am leary about their schedule. We'd be royally screwed if they canceled that flight as we already have our accommodations so NEED to fly that day.

Looking for any and all info. on Allegiant!! I know we used to fly Air Tran a lot (before SW took them over) and they used to make a lot of changes to their schedule whenever I booked them early….this thought makes me nervous since it's still so far away. Anybody know if Allegient is prone to making a lot of changes to their schedules??:confused3 TIA

(PS) this review site is not adding any comfort to the decision: http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/allegiant.htm

Flying from NC to Orlando in June.

Southwest - Charlotte to MCO - $895.00 includes EBCI.

Allegient - Concord (small regional airport) to Sanford - $605.00 includes paying fees for 3 reserved seats, 3 checked bags, 2 carryon bags

Was renting a car regardless so will just have a longer drive to WDW and almost $300 in my pocket.

Have flown Allegiant ABE-Sanford many times. No complaints. Even with fees they are still cheaper than the rest, just inconvenient times coming back into ABE (early am departure out of Sanford). I've never had them change a flight time other than for weather which they had no control over.

We will be flying from Allentown in 2 weeks to Sanford...can't wait! We have flown Allegiant 3 times and haven't had any issues. Yes, they do nickel and dime you for bags, snacks, etc but as others have stated, the fares still turn out cheaper than the other airlines. Just be sure to prepay for any bags you are checking because if you change your mind at the gate and decide to check a bag, or one of your carry ons exceeds the size limit, you will have to pay twice the bag fee!

Have flown them 10-12 times over the past few years out of Springfield, MO. Never had a bad experience. Just make sure you include all the fees in your comparison. However, they changed the website to include many more of the fees in the posted price, so it is not as deceptive as it used to be. The people are always nice, and Sanford is usually easier to get in and out of.

Just a thought, we are flying back out of Tampa instead. The flight out is in the afternoon instead of early and for our flight, the price was $70 cheaper per person. May bump up the rental car a little, but it was still a cheaper option.

I found a Hawaiian website today that explained why fares are so much higher in general this year and also had a blurb about Allegiant and "their problems with their Hawaiian route". They have apparently had several problems with this route (with delays and cancelations being top on the list). The article basically reinforced some of the negative reviews I'd found on Skytrax. After showing the articles and reviews to DH and discussing it we decided it was too risky for us to be worth the savings. It's an expensive trip and very far from the east coast and not one that we will repeat again any time soon. It is not something we're willing to leave to that much chance just to save a few bucks. We went ahead & booked on Hawaiian Air today. They just announced a new "extra comfort" booking category that for $60 more gives 5" more legroom, priority boarding, a pillow and blanket, free in-flight entertainment and a personal power outlet….their price even with this premium seating was only $2 more than Delta's price for regular economy coach. It's a 5 1/2 hour flight from LAX so we went for it because the extra legroom & power outlet will be nice. It is the closet thing to first class that we'll ever get. :rotfl:

I see that Allegiant flys out of Hagerstown, MD which is actually about 15 min. closer to us than the 3 major international airports in this area which are all about an hour away. Perhaps we'll try Allegiant on a trip to FL sometime when we don't have so much riding on it leaving on time.

Is there anyway around the online convenience fee they charge if you don't live near an airport where they offer ticket purchases?
