I was disappointed to see that once I found the flight I needed (at a great price) there was a minimun of $10.99 per seat per passenger per flight and then another $39.99 per bag. The great price is not so great now. Is this normal for Allegiant? I had no idea there would be so many addtional costs.

Any thoughts?

That is all that I have seen, however, I thought there were cheaper seats than 10.99, but I'm not certain. Could you do a carry on?

A few years ago, I looked at Allegiant too because the prices seemed so great. Once I had to add seat charges and baggage fees, southwest was almost the same price. The deciding factor was SW flies to MCO while Allegiant flies to Sanford which I don't like.

How close do you live to the airport? the reason being my boss goes to the airport to buy his tickets on alligiant & there is a fee you don't pay. not sure which one but is an allegiant fee. we are a family of 4 & we travel with one suitcase that is checked & then each carryon one too. We have never paid for seat either & not had a problem.

We enjoy flying allegiant because there are no connections & the flights run ontime. And our local airport is small & parking is cheaper than most airports.

How do you book it without paying for the seat? I tried booking a flight and went through the process and I could not figure out how to get around that part?

We used Allegiant this past December and did basically the same thing. We just didn't go to the airport to get our tickets. We pre-paid for one checked bag for the 5 of us and we carried on 4 bags. The pre-pay price for the checked bag for us was 19.99 each way.

We also didn't choose our own seats. They seemed to work to keep families together in our experience. On our way down to FL, we were early enough at check-in that they assigned us seats right at the counter. Didn't happen on the way back but we were still all together.

When you get to the part about picking seats, there should be a little "x" next to each person's name to remove the seat assignment, if I remember correctly. I know it is on the page where you pick your seats.

There are tons of boxes to "uncheck". You can remove all the extras.

We have flown Allegiant several times - to Orlando, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. In the past, I have found some great rates - but never as low as 10.99. I think the least was $35 each way a few years ago.

Allegiant has changed the way they list their rates. Rates now include many of the formerly hidden fees. You still have the option to opt in or out for baggage and seat selection.

I think you are right though that the deals aren't what they used to be. However, even if the rates are the same as other airlines, we prefer Allegiant for the direct flights. With other airlines, we spend the entire day in transit - with two flights and lengthy layovers - whereas with Allegiant, we can be 1/2 way across the US in 3 hours! Last year, our kids went to school until noon and we were still in the parks at DLR by 8pm! :thumbsup2

As many said those fees are optional. Except for the luggage and we prepaid $19.99 when we used it on our trip last March.

I think she meant it's $10.99 for the seat selection, not the airfare. We fly Allegiant quite a bit. Took one flight on Sunday and another just yesterday. They have changed the way you board if you don't prepay for a seat assignment. When you check in they give you your ticket with a Z and then a number and that is the order they board the open seating. We checked into Las Vegas airport about 2 1/2 hours early and got Z55 and Z56. That meant that there were that many people ahead of us that didn't pay for seats that got to choose where to sit before us. Even so my husband and I were able to sit together and there were probably 20 people or so behind us. You do pretty much end up towards the back of the plane. I have NO IDEA how people get the lower Z numbers. I can't believe they get to the airport super early and check in, but maybe. So, if it is REALLY important to sit with your family members, it could be a real gamble NOT to pay for and pick your seats.

We have been happy with Allegiant overall, but some of their flight times are kind of crappy.

We have flown Alligent several times and have always been seated together even though we didn't prepick our seats. We just arrived at the airport early and no problem. A friend of ours recently went to Disney and mailed a box full of cloths. They called the resort ahead of time to give them a heads up. I think their cloths arrived the day before they did. They each also took a carryon on the plane. When they left, they repackaged the box and the front dest at the resort took care of mailing it for them. She said it was much cheaper and worked great. Just a thought.
