That was the headline in our local paper today! We're booked for October 22 and now planeloads of people will have to scramble to find seats. They say they'll provide reimbursement or offered tickets on other airlines but somehow I doubt we'll get much help from Allegiant in finding alternate flights. They claim they're flying at 85 to 90 percent capacity but high fuel costs don't allow enough profit. We had really looked forward to flying out with almost no commute to the airport but here we are, back to square one!

We were also looking forward to flying out of Worcester on Sept. 14. I heard the news today and went online right away. I found a great flight out of Manchester for the same price. We are also gaining almost 2 days in the parks because we will leave early in the morning and be coming home at 6:30 p.m. I also had to scramble and find park tickets since I had also purchased them from Allegiant. It is turning out to cost us $37 more for our trip. We now do not need a rental car, but we are staying overnight at a Fairfield Inn in Manchester the night before ourt 6:00 a.m. flight.

Daydreams I live in Worcester and also read the headline today and I think it's garbage. If they had offered more flights they would have done great in Worcester. Even if their flights were a bit more expensive. I would never have flown out of Worcester and I live right down the hill from the airport. The flights out were ok but the return flights were always at 7 in the morning. You end up losing a whole day of the trip as I understand it, Sanford is 45 minutes away from WDW. They really were not user friendly. We fly out of Providence and yes it is a bit of a drive but it's a great airport. You fly directly into Orlando, the parking is reasonable. Keep checking the SW site I'm sure you can get a reasonable flight and if you have Ding downloaded they have had some 49.00 flights to Orlando.I do feel for you as it stinks when you think everything is all set and then something like this happens. Good Luck and I hope everything works out great for you and your family!

If they had offered more flights, they would have lost MORE money. The problem is that passengers are simply not willing to pay enough to make small airports profitable for an airline.

This is really a shame. It seems that Worcester airport just can't make it work like Providence and Hartford. I think part of the problem also is that this airport is much harder for people to get to than the others. People will pay a little more to have it easy and convenient and Worcester just isn't that. We live really close and would definitely use it if the flight times and airlines were once we like to fly. But...even with that being said, it is just as easy to drive to PVD or BDL.

I know Allegiant is claiming fuel costs, but I do wonder if something is going on at that airport that just makes it harder for airlines to use it.

I read in our local paper today that Allegiant Air is also pulling out of Portsmouth, NH. Not sure of the date on that, though.

I'm sorry I guess I should have said better flight times and schedules.I know many of my friends and family just found there times inconvient as I stated above. Plus the fact that they flew into Sanford was an inconvience as well. It is a shame but I don't think that the airport is going to make it as the access is lousy and the residents around there don't want as access road.

We're just east of Worcester. I've flown out of Worcester in the past on Pan Am. Actually spent a fair amount of time at the airport in my college days..it's quite lovely up on that hilltop at night ;) Anyway.....it takes me about (or did until those ceiling tiles malfunctioned!!) 40 minutes to get from my house to the Delta Terminal at Logan....55 minutes to get to the parking garage at TF Green, and 35 minutes to get to Worcester Airport. I have no problem with getting to Worc.Airport, but can imagine it could be hard to find if you aren't familier with the area. I think that perhaps we are going to have to get used to the idea of no airport for us in Worcester. The residents don't want it, airlines don't seem to be able to make a go of it..it's a lose/lose situation.

We're all set - after several hours of checking - we booked Delta (I hope not out of the frying pan and into the fire) out of Hartford but had to change days. Hotel is changed to the new dates, now have to fill in ADR's. Southwest didn't have good rates yet and I couldn't stand to wait. The new flight all in all will only cost $50 more or less so I guess we're getting out of it with all our skin attached. We'll miss the last day of the golf tournament now but to look on the bright side we'll be able to attend a family wedding that was planned after our original trip was set.

Allegiant called today and offerred a flight out of Boston or a refund!
DH took the call and told them "refund" - and that I had already e-mailed and told them that but she said there's quite a bit of confusion. I wouldn't want HER job today!

Thanks all, for the kind words - now we can go back to anticipating our trip!

You can't blame Allegiant for pulling out of Worcester...no airline has been able to make a go of it up there. Providence and Manchester are both stones throws from the Interstate while Worcester is 150 stop lights from Interstate 290...I challenge anyone who is not from the area to get to Worcester Airport from 290 without getting lost.

I also understand that the fees charged to the few airlines operating out of Worcester have been on the high side which certainly is not helping the situation.

I am glad we had the chance to fly them in Feb. Both our flights were full. I wish there was a way to keep Worcester Airport profitable. My next flights to Orlando were already booked on SWA thru PVD due to greater flexibility and more options. Allegiant was really working more like a charter company with very limited flights.

I can get to the Worcester Airport from 290 with only 6 lights (Holy Cross exit, Cambridge St, Park Ave to Lovell, May to Mill and then Airport). I don't know how many Main Street lights there would be if I stayed on Main until the Airport turn. But then I've worked at Worcester State for 8 years, so that helps to learn the neighborhood.

I realize it is a drive for alot of you...however if anyone is interested ..

out of Providence flying on Southwest they are running alot of round trip fares for $135pp.

Jet Blue is flying out of Providence? I thought that they were only flying out of Logan. I will have to keep that in mind.

I am soooo sorry :guilty: You're absolutely correct.. I meant Southwest.

I was on the phone w/ JetBlue last night while I was on the dis boards getting a credit for our flight from bos-mco (rate change) Must've had JetBlue on the brain... I was pretty excited because I just got a credit and am supposed to go fly jetblue to the bahamas in Oct.

Sorry for any confusion.... :sad2: (I hate it when I do dumb things like that) I edited my post...

No problem :) I have just been waiting for them to come to Manchester. So if they were in Providence, then maybe there was a chance for Manchester. By the way, I did the same thing in a post a couple of weeks ago...substituted Jet Blue for Southwest.

Bummer...I totally enjoyed flying out of Worcester in january..oh well...

Has anyone received their refund yet? If so, how long did it take? I called last Thursday for a refund on my flight that I had booked for November. They said they had a deal with Delta for flights but that was only until the 20th of November and my travel dates were 11/20-11/30. Better off witha refund, I did not want to fly Delta.
Hopefully, I will get my refund soon so I can book my new flight. Probably going to go with Providence.

Good Luck to all!!

I got a response to me e-mail today which said our refund would be processed in the next 24-48 hours but can take up to 7 business days for the fund to appear on our credit card account. I'll be keeping an eye on it. By the way, the email ended "Bring the Smile Back to Flying" Way to go, Allegiant!
