this year: family didn't like the taste of the diet coke from "the fountain gun". tried really hard to explain that it doesn't taste like diet from a can, but, "I can get you something else, or take the price off your bill". as busy as I was, they didn't like either option. apparently, they wanted me to change the taste of the diet pop.:rotfl:
after going around on this for quite some time, they finally agreed to my taking the price off their bill.
we had a buffet. $20. ($10 for ages 6-12, 5 and under, free) we had a carving station, with filet, with au jus, ham, with special orange au jus, and turkey breast. pot roast, salmon, mashed potatos and gravy, green bean casserole, ribs, stroganoff, chicken stir fry with rice, sea food cakes, polish sausage with sauerkraut, cocktail shrimp, oysters on the half shell, bagels and cream cheese, rolls and butter, macaroni salad, potato salad, coleslaw, broccoli salad, asparagus salad, fruit bowl, pumpkin pie, cheese cake, apple pie,
after I gave them the bill... they said the 15 year old boy didn't like anything on the buffet,he only ate a few grapes, and can I give them a burger "to go" for him?:rotfl2:

christmas eve:
a nice couple come in eevery week, either fri or sat.
they always order off the $10 value menu. she had a stroke, so is hard to understand, but now I can pretty much understand her. she gets a rob roy with olive and a cherry. he gets a bourbon manhattan with an olive. she likes horesradish sauce with her prime rib.
they tip about 15%.
christams eve, it was not my turn when they came in.. another server took care of them, but I still went over and chatted with them, made sure they had what they needed.

he handed me a $20 bill and said "thank you for taking care of us this year, merry christmas, diane::lovestruc:hug::cloud9:
people like that, make this job worth doing!!!

even if they hadn't given me the christmas tip, it's just nice people like them who make the job worth it. she remembered what presents I was giving to my grandkids, and asked if they liked them!

Um, have you seen this site www . notalwaysright . com? Remove the spaces, of course ;) and you might just want to consider posting this experience there.

I think I am one of the few people in the world who really enjoyed waitressing. I am hoping that I am still spry enough to do it at WDW when we "retire."

I waitressed a long time ago so can't really recall any bad stories other than the Sunday "dinner" crowd that used to come in after church for the all-you-can-eat buffet. Parties of 20 who would leave about 50 cents tip per person...

Plenty of bad stories, but the MOST recent, and I mean as of Thursday Dec 17th.
I work at Ryan's and it was super busy that night. I had THE busiest section in the restaurant. I happen to go to the front to seat some customers in my section and we laughed together right from the start. They were done eating and as I was getting ready to walk away from their table with some dirty dishes, the mother put cash in my hand and said, "Merry Christmas, G-d bless you, you deserve this." All I saw was a $20 and a $5 and I said thank you very much. When I arrived at the server station after putting my dishes in dishroom, I discovered it wasn't a $25 tip, but a $50 tip! :faint: I made $145 that night! That money went with us on our 2 day vacation to Stone Mountain GA 2 days later! :cool1:
I don't celebrate Christmas, but Hanukkah and that was a fabulous last day gift!
Some customers just really know how to make a server feel humble and worthy.

I've enjoyed it for over 20 years. However...when my teaching degree comes through...I'm done! Got my AA and will start working on my Bachelor's in January.

DH and I went out to dinner on Christmas Eve...Chili's. We pleased and thank you'd our waitress all night long. Laughed with her, chatted, and left a mondo tip (almost equal to the actual check). I always appreciate those who have to work so that MY day/night can be special.
