I'll be solo (used up DH's theme park limit at Disneyland last month) and off site (need to cut expenses, DD is planning a wedding and the girl ain't playing) on my September trip. I'll have my car but really don't want to drive after an evening at the Food and Wine Festival.

Have any of you solo ladies used Uber? We're you comfortable with your experience? We've used Uber several times while on vacation but I've never tried it on my own. I'd love to hear from those of you who've done this!

Thanks!

Yep used Uber last year to transfer from Disney to Universal and then from Universal to the Airport. Wasn't a problem, both the drivers were really friendly and it was so much cheaper. I'd used Mears private car the year before but just couldn't justify the expense. I also use Uber all the time at home when I'm heading out or home after a late night. Only thing is I'm not sure if Uber's are allowed to pick up from the parks but don't quote me on that

Uber here in the UK has a thing where you can send a email/text to someone you know to say you're on the way and it gives the license plate/name of the driver to the person. I always let someone know anyway just in case.

I would love to have this option! Thanks for the first hand account.

My sister told me about a new driving service called Chariots for Women which I just looked up and it's now called SafeHer. The drivers are all women and they only pick up female passengers. It's a genius idea, I think. They haven't yet started up but I'm hoping it catches on. I don't drive and when traveling I'd much rather use this kind of service than book a shuttle.

I use Uber alone often in NYC and Orlando. Just make sure the license plate matches what is in the app before you get in the car. Also don't give up any information yoursel i.e. Ask the driver to confirm their name for safety sake or ask the drive to confirm who their passenger is for safety sake before you get in the car. Any good driver will ablige.

Also the US app also has the share your ride feature. The 1 time I felt off about an Uber I used the feature and let my fiance know where I was and told him I felt off about the situation so was sending the tracking link.

Yes the parks have Uber. When you take the shuttle out to the parking lots they tell you which stop is the area for the Uber/taxi drivers.

NEVER EVER EVER would I Uber, solo or otherwise honestly.

I'm near Boston and the sheer volume of attacks on women who Uber is enough.

How many has Boston had? Just wondering because I know it happens but in NYC it has been at or below the average for regular taxis as well.

My daughter isn't on the forum but she uses uber in and out of WDW alone and never felt unsafe. From WDW to off property, especially if it's near the end of the night is usually a cast member picking you up that recently ended their shift.

I've read way too many stories lately about Uber and sexual assault to recommend them to any single woman.

I've used Uber countless times alone - I live in Washington, DC and haven't had any problems. I've used it in other cities as well, including at WDW this past week.

My friends are frequent Uber users as well, and I haven't heard of any bad experiences either.

Thanks for the input. I'm thinking that I'll give it a try one morning and see how it feels. The alternative is Lynx which I'm very used to but it can be a bit of a slog. We've used Uber in Las Vegas, Anaheim, Atlanta, Nashville and New Orleans. One of our California drivers was a tad different (got to hear his life story) but not at all scary.

We are a couple of hours from Boston and the assaults seem to make our newspaper weekly.

I always read the Uber reports with a grain of salt. They are in the news because many taxi lobbists are trying to get Uber banned or users to think it is unsafe. Just as many assualts happen in regular cabs but don't get reported because it is just another day in a big city. Uber is new and a lot of big money is against it so they actively work to make sure anything ant-Uber makes it to the news.

Maybe you should tell that to the dead, the raped, the assaulted and the robbed women who were attacked by Uber drivers. Just sayin...

I'm not saying it doesn't happen. I'm just saying Uber is no more or less safe than a regular cab. If someone needs to use a car service their chances of being murdered, raped, or assualtes doesn't doesn't change based on use of Uber, Lyft, or a regular taxi. That was all I was saying. If you feel safe using a regular taxi then Uber and Lyft should be no different.

Yeah, I've taken Uber alone a few times in my city (not in Disney) and I've never had a problem. I wouldn't advise taking Uber if you're alone and drunk. The incidents I've heard about have involved drunk women making bad decisions like inviting the Uber driver into their hotel room or calling the driver directly instead of booking through the Uber app. If any assault happened on a sober woman INSIDE of the Uber vehicle while she was being transported to or from her destination, please let me know about it.

It happens (don't have any articles hand) but like I pointed out it doesn't mean it is less likely to happen in a regular yellow cab. At least with Uber I know who drove me last and what his license plate number is. With a yellow cab I have no clue on who is driving me or how to get their information after an assault since I don't make a habit of writing down driver information every time I get in a cab.

I also like Uber because if you know the route they took was longer then it should have been you can let Uber know and get a refund. When my yellow cab driver went on a late night trip of Queens taking me back to Manhattan from JFK I had no way of getting the money back. When Uber drivers try to pull those stunts Uber will review the GPS and give you the money back if they agree that the route was ridiculous.

Im just back from a 2 week solo WDW trip and used Uber loads. I used Uber the last trip as well to get to the shopping malls and have never felt unsafe. So much cheaper than Mears or other taxis and the drivers were all really friendly. One even had a Disney blog.

Before Uber I used to take Lynx buses as couldn't afford taxis and believe me those felt more unsafe sometimes!!
