We spent one night in All Star Sports before checking into WL. We absolutely hated it. The pace was far to frenetic. The food court was like being in any of the Disney counter-service restaurants at the peak time during lunch. I didn't sense any Disney Magic while staying there.

I also couldn't believe the dispensers for soap and shampoo that were located in the shower. How low rent is that!

Comments - Did I miss something or am I right on target?

That's why it's a value resort and not a deluxe or even a moderate. We're doing the same thing before we check into the Polynesian. My 9 y/o dd is thrilled to get to try it out. I know what to expect. Friends of ours love it there. They have 3 kids and the kids are crazy about it. They feel the bus system is terrific and they get two rooms when they go so they have enough room. Lots of people love these resorts. Some don't. Good thing they have moderates and deluxes. Something for everyone.

Both Millipore, both. The All Stars are not for everyone, just as the Grand Floridian isn't for everyone (my son refuses to stay there). It all depends on what you are looking for. As long as I know what to expect, and are happy with that, then there isn't very many instances when I am disappointed. I've enjoyed every Disney resort I've stayed at so far, but my attitude when I stay at an All Star (in regards to expectations) was much different than when I stayed at Boardwalk. Like goofy4tink said, something for everyone.

We stayed at All Star Music and loved it. It was what we could afford, and compared to similarly priced off-site hotels, it was heaven. It was clean, bright and cheerfully themed. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy ASSp - good thing there are lots of other resorts to choose from at WDW.:D

We love AS Sports...but, we know what to expect when we arrive. We have stayed dozens of times for long weekends.

Sure, we expect more when we go to a Disney Deluxe resort. The all stars are what they are...and it is much nicer to stay at the all stars than to stay out in town. The convenience is worth it!

We like the sports as well. My kids love it, and it fun and happy for them.

The bus system is great (especially at Sports). All the times we haved stayed onsite has been at Sports.

But in a few months, we are going Wilderness Lodge for the first time. I'm sure I will be in for culture shock.

for an on property room as low as $55/night (that I've seen) You can't beat it. If you have the green to go for $200+ / night go for it. I'll take the discount, personally. It's the difference between getting to stay on property and not getting to.

Set your expectations, and plan on having fun. If you look to be disappointed, you will be.

Sorry you didn't like your stay there. We loved our stay there. The kids enjoyed themselves there. We also loved our stay at the ASMo! We knew what to expect and were not disappointed. So...we are staying again there in June!!

I think some of the people hit the exact point - expectation.

We stayed at CR, BC, and YC before we stayed at ASMu. It was a really cheap deal with the AP rate, so we figured we would sqeeze another trip before our AP expired.

We did not like it at all, we did not like the food court or the pool, it was hard not to compare it to the deluxe resorts we previously stayed at. Now being as "economical" as he is, DH will NOT stay at any All Star resorts.

My 4 year old girl loved BuzzLightYear, so she really wanted to stay at ASMo, we ended up taking her there just to look around a bit, had her pictures taken with those giant characters and left.

However, I am still hoping one of these days I can do a "Mommy and Me" trip with my 4yo at ASMo. Checked for July 4th time but there is no AP rate rooms left. Maybe some other times.

I am dying to try the ASMovies. I know my kids would love it! For the past couple of years we've been at the Poly LVConc which is very nice but my 6 yr. old son won't go down the slide(Iknow...) and it is kind of dated. It's my husband who feels that the money is worth the convenience at the Poly. For me, it's not about the money, the AS's just look like so darn, much fun! Maybe next year. Threehearts

Threehearts, I am DYING to do Poly... haven't stayed there since I was a teen (and Dad was footing the bill!) And as one of my favorite WDW activities is eating, concierge sounds MARVELOUS.'' I have a plan. My kids want to try AllStars too. How about I send them with you and your boy over there, and I'll meet your dh at Poly (his treat). I promise not to pinch him... We'll flip a coin, and winner (or loser?) gets my dh as well.

How's this sound? As posted here before, WDW has something for everyone! :)

If you are simply staying over night, why stay at a Disney hotel? go to Holiday Inn Maingate on Irlo Bronson. Great pool and amenities. take your "flight crew" bags with you to EPCOT and use one of thge large lockers outside the gate. Ride disney transportation to whatever resort you are heading to for the remainder of your stay.

If you are taking more than one small bag per person, you might want to reevaluate how much stuff you are bringing.

We did one night at ASMo before checking in to BWI on our last trip; and we didn't like it one bit. I wasn't expecting much, I knew it was a value result. But, the rooms were so small. We couldn't imagine spending more than one night there!

Millipore, I have not yet tried the allstars & having been to WL, I think that we would be disappointed (the adults) but I truly believe that the kids would love it. I plan to split my stay on our next trip but I want your opinion: If you could only stay at an allstars or offsite, which would you choose?

Just wondering. I am trying to figure out how we could squeeze in a trip in Nov. for as little $$ as possible.

Sorry you weren't happy with the value resort.

Thanks.

To each his own. Some love 'em, some hate 'em.

I hate 'em.

When I'm on vacation I want my hotel room to be at least as nice as my home.

I find the All Stars small, cramped, gaudy, and yeah, "low rent".

One of my best friends loves them...although I talked her into trying AKL on the trip she's on right now...and she's already called me raving about it.

For those with a tight budget, or for those who do nothing but sleep and shower in the room, then the AS's provide an economical way to stay onsite.

But as others have suggested, don't get your hopes up. It's basically a Red Roof Inn/Motel 6 type of place with similar amenties...except there's a pool. If you're comfortable in that type of setting, you'll probably love them...if not, you'll be wise to look at other options.

I stayed at ASMo and liked it. I figure I really only stay in the room to sleep, so what do I care? The price is rihgt. I stayed at the Contemporary years ago and I really didn't need all that room. The monorail is a great thing there though. I would definitely stay at an All Star again.

We have stayed at all the all-stars on more that one occassion and will be back there in a couple of weeks. The only thing that we do at our hotel is sleep, bathe, and use of the pool. We go a couple of times a year and $56/night to stay on site is great for us since we get the transportation to everywhere in the World.
Sorry you did not likr your stay, but of course it is not for everyone.

I happen to like the All-Star Sports. It just what I need on vacation a nice clean room and pool and food court.

The one that I like is the transportation. Laugh if my but I get lost easy so the transportaion is what sold me.

We had one good experience at ASMu (Jan 02) and one bad one (Nov 02). Of course since the bad one was the most recent, it stays in my mind. It was regular season and high occupancy due to Super Soap weekend and Food and Wine Festival. It seemed to me that the CMs can't keep up with those kinds of crowds. The place was not kept clean or even tidy...food court, poolside, stair wells, rooms. The same half-eaten pizza sat poolside for at least 18 hours, picked over by birds. I only noticed it because each time we passed on our way to and from the busses, it was still there! Yuck!! The worst part of our stay was that we had smokers on either side of us smoking in non-smoking rooms. That made it hard to enjoy even sleeping there! The smoke crept under the connecting door. Blocking the crack did not work.

Polite complaints to the front desk went no where. Could not be moved due to high occupancy. Their only solution was for housekeeping to fog the room with industrial strength Glade. I was appalled. They said it was not possible that people could be smoking in non-smoking rooms. I could not believe it was the same resort we stayed at a year before. We compared the hand soap and shampoo to lemon Joy dishwashing detergent and in fact used it like that for our mugs and cereal bowls.

My very frugal husband said we are never staying at a Value Resort again, or else he's staying home. Fortunately, we booked WL for $114 AP rate in August and feel it will be worth the extra $65 a night. I had planned on upgrading to a moderate, but a deluxe will have to do;)

P.S. I am happy to hear that the value resorts work so well for most people. Its what Walt Would Have Wanted.

We stayed at All Star Music twice - about 6 & 7 years ago. At the time it was all we could afford. And, given that, it was fine. Nothing fancy obviously. But, we didn't know any better because it was our first Disney resort. I kind of liked the guitar pool. Didn't like the food court that much.

Well, now several years later we've stayed at CBR, SCR, Contemporary, Grand Floridian, Yacht Club, Beach Club so I don't think I could go back to All Stars. In just 9 days we're trying a new resort...the Wilderness Lodge. Right now my favorite is YC/BC...we'll see if we have a new favorite.
