If you could stay at either one, which would you chose and why? I've only been to WDW once, back in 2017 when my girls were 11 and 7. Disney doesn't appeal to them anymore, but I'm planning to take my DS in 2 years right before his 8th birthday. He's very much into sports, so I know he'd enjoy All Star Sports. He would love the pool at French Quarter. I've been watching videos of POFQ and think it's so beautiful. I know it's more money, and that it's very popular. I know it's personal preference. I just want to hear what others say.

To be honest, for me, it would depend on what time of the year you are going and what sport teams/squads would be staying there potentially. If there are a lot of kids who are 'chaperoned' (some are, and some are far less so), I'd choose POFQ, for sure. Personally POFQ is a personal favorite (yes, quaint, quiet, great pool and great theming overall). But regardless of my personal favorites, I understand why you'd want to consider Sports for your son. I'd just check to see if it suits your overall plans best. Have a great trip!

I’ve never stayed at FQ, but have stayed at sports with a boy at that age. He loved it. Especially loved playing on the football field and swimming in the home run pool. He really enjoyed it there.

If you want a more relaxed atmosphere with everything being a little nicer (I’d assume), I’d go with FQ. Pretty much depends on if you want to prioritize what you’ll like (FQ) vs what he will like (Sports).

I have stayed at both, and had good trips at both, but they are different. I feel POFQ has a little more of an adult vibe to it. The main difference as far as a child would be concerned is that the pool at POFQ has a slide and the All Star pool does not. Theme wise I feel Sports would be a better fit for this specific trip.

Perhaps you could do a water park with some of the money you will be saving by staying at Sports (I doubt they will still be running the free WP ticket on check in day promotion two years from now, but anything is possible).

I like both resorts for different reasons

AS Sports is cheaper and closer to AK and has nice themeing but can be very crowded at certain times of the year for special sporting events (football, not sure if that is still done at WDW and cheerleading as a couple that I am aware of)

FQ is a much nicer, smaller, and quieter resort, also closer to some of the parks but cost more (but has fresh begniets!)

We love FQ but it sounds as if your son would go crazy for Sports. When our girls were young they always wanted to stay at Movies. I think kids are drawn to the over the top theme. You can't go wrong with either!! Have a great trip.

I like Sports a lot. And I'm not the biggest sports fan in my real life.

I dislike POFQ - just not a fan of New Orleans.

Plus at this time there are no park advantages to staying at a Moderate over a Value (only Deluxe and Villas get Extra Evening Hours) so if I can't swing Deluxe or Villa, I'm staying Value.

This is a no brainer to me, I would honestly do Sports in your situation. POFQ theming is a bit sedate for little kids aside from the pool area and the gator band, and while it is a bit more centrally located than the All Stars, when you’re taking buses everywhere anyway it makes very little tangible difference in your travel time to and from the parks imo. I just don’t see the point in paying for it over what is usually the cheapest room on property.

No decision to be made IMO.

All-Star Sports all the way for an 8 year old boy who loves sports!

Today's "Values" have been plussed greatly the last 10 years.

As mentioned, the only "negative" could be you dates.

January through May is Cheer Season with lots of competitions and January,February, July are the months when the South American 15 years old girls come in Tour Groups.

These groups bother some Guests and not others.

Teenaged boys LOVE these dates!lol

But you will have a blast at either Resort!(We love the boat from French Quarter to Disney Springs at Sunset!)

Does your DS like boat rides? If so, I would lean more to POFQ and you can take the boat back and forth to DS. But if he's really into sports, he would probably really enjoy All Star Sports.

Those are my two (realistic) favorites!

Saving money, we do Sports, with my parents, we do POFQ.....

If the boy likes sports, I think the saving money would win out, even if he is ONLY mildly amused by the sports thing.....

To me it would be about the price Delta. How much extra would you be paying to stay at POFQ vs Sports? $10/night and I'm going POFQ without question. $50/nt, I'm going to be at Sports.

I like them both! The theming at french quarter definitely feels more adult to me. And I think the Sports has a much better food court. If a pool slide isn't a big deal I'd stick with Sports.

And 2 more cool things about about All-Star Sports.

If you get the refillable Mug,you can refill it 24/7 in End Zone Food Court which isn't the case at POFQ.

And All-Star Sports is a short stroll away from a McDonald's.

I'm not sure how into Disney Springs an 8 year old boy would be - it's pretty much all shopping or dining. And the boats aren't exactly speedy, which I would think would appeal more to an 8 year old than the slowish boats that go back and forth.

POFQ is usually twice the price of AS, so we go for All Stars. Last year, we got a free upgrade to POR (not FQ), but we won’t spend extra money to stay there. It was definitely quieter and calmer, but we were still woken up early by a family very excited for their day at a park (not being especially loud for theme park bound people, but a little louder than one would prefer when sleeping at 6:30 am). The bus stops for PO from the parks were slightly closer than for AS. We do not stay long enough to use the pools; the dragon slide does look fun. For us, the $100+ a night doesn’t really get us anything.
