For those who are mobility challenged and were looking for measurements, I've decided to bring my tape measure along to any resort we visit and will post measurements/heights here. We stayed this time at All Star Music but the All Stars are the same- don't want to say the same about Pop Century and assume that they are too. We requested an accessible room with roll in shower. Here are the measurements:
King bed:- height :24 inches
Area between bed and wall: 33 inches
Area between bed and armoire/table/chairs: 38 inches
Bathroom door width: 35 inches with sliding door
Roll in shower removable bench: 14 inches high/20 inches wide, 11 .5 inches deep
Shower stalldepth: 36inches Bars around both left side and right. Shower seat has back and is a little unstable- need to move it forward if using the removable hand held shower independently.
Toilet height: 20 inches, bars on side of toilet and space to transfer
Outside sink with space underneath for wheelchair access
No refrigerator in room ( had been removed)

Hope this helps someone else. In mid August we will be staying at Wilderness Lodge Villas and Old Key West, both in a studio and I'll be measuring there also so let me know if there's anything else anyone wants to know.
Kathy

Thanks Kathy, that's great information. Maybe we should start keeping track of all of this somewhere on this site.

One question for you. Is the seat in the shower actually only 14 inches off of the ground? That seems pretty low to me but maybe it just sounds low.

I just returned from taking my daily walk around the building here at work(got to keep in shape for my next WDW trip). While I was out there I saw a bench attached to a picnic table. The bench seemed pretty low so I measured it and it was 15 1/2 inches off of the ground. A good test for transfering to a 14 inch bench. I transfered and had no problems getting on or off of it. Now this was a very solid bench but hopefully that will mean I can do the 14 inch bench easily when I visit ASMu in December.

This is great. I wish I had taken a tape measure on our last trip.

Bill- the shower seat really is that low to the ground. Since it is also very wide ( but not very deep ) that helps the stability. The main thing to be sure of when transferring is to be sure none of the feet are in the shower drain area which slopes downward a bit. One time we were at All Star Movies and there was no drain cover- could have been an injury there with the shower bench. I agree if we could keep this information in a certain area so if anyone wants to do so, they can add to it.---Kathy

Yikes- I should have proofread! The width of the shower bench was 20 inches. Sue...is there any way to amend the above information?---kathy

Yes
I read it and thought 10 inches was a bit narrow.
I can edit it or you can.
Let me know if I didn't put the 20 inches in the right place.

Sue- since I'm clueless on how to edit, I'll ask you to edit it for me if you don't mind...and thanks! ---Kathy

Sue why don't we make a new sticky up top with this info?
We could all come up with a standard of what to measure and how that is measured. Then when each of us go to a different resort and a different type of handicapped room we would all have an idea of what it is like. Within a few months we should hopefully have most handicapped rooms measured.
We are going to a King handicapped roll in at POP in December, so I will measure what we decide on is most important at that time.
So everyone throw out your ideas of what things are important to you, i.e. toliet height, bed height, space between the bed and wall, etc. so we can come up with a standard list of what to measure and go from there.
We could also make up a form with this info on so all you have to do is print it up ,bring it down and fill it in.

I was thinking to just keep bumping this thread up for a while and then add a link to it in the disABILITIES FAQs thread.
Maybe though, it would be better to just make a new thread with room measurement and location info.
I'll copy Kathy's original post into a new thread and we can have that one for locations and measurements. That thread will be stuck to the top for people to add to.
(NOTE ADDED: I JUST MADE A NEW THREAD. You came up with some good suggestions for what people might be needing to know. PLEASE ANYONE WITH SUGGESTIONS for things that are important for you to know, add them to this thread. We can use this one as sort of the basis for planning.
I think it would be an excellent idea to have a general form that could be printed and filled out. I will investigate whether we can have a link to an attachment that people could download and print out (probably a pdf file - I have a Mac computer, so I can save things as pdf files and any computer should be able to download and print it.)
Another alternative would be to have the general form in the first post of the new thread. People could copy and paste the info to the word processing program and then print it out.
