We are looking into a trip at the end of August with the free dining plan..we prefer to use the regular dining plan which includes the sit down meal each day..I have priced what it would be for just the moderate which includes that dining plan as well as the value and upgrading the dining plan and they are within $300 in pricing of each other..my questions are: is it worth the extra money to stay in Port Orleans? What are the perks for that hotel?

POR is our favorite resort. For shorter trips (long weekends) we usually stay at a value but for week long trips we stay at POR. We spend a lot of time at the pool- there's a main pool and quiet pools. The food court is one of the best on property. We even had a really great meal at the sit down restaurant (we weren't expecting much but it was one of the best meals that trip). There is a boat that goes to DTD too.

I much prefer POR but keep in mind that the resort is much bigger. That's one of the reasons we like POR so much is the big feel and the fact that you are not stepping all the time on somebody else. Also at POR you have 6 or 7 pools to use and we love the food court better too. You get also a mini fridge in the room. For those reasons POR is our favorite.

POR is my families favorite resort. Is is a large, spacious resort. There is a walking/jogging/bikling path and you can rent bikes to use. You can also rent paddleboats to use on the Sassagoula River. They also have boat service that will take you to POFQ and Downtown Disney. It's a nice alternative to the bus system. You can also rent fishing poles and fish in the Sassagoula River. The main pool is nice and there are several other "private pools" located by resort buildings.

We also like the food court, and Boatwrights is a very underrated table service restaurant. All this being said we've never stayed at All Star Movies so I can't compare the two.

The moderates have the following features that the value resorts do not:
  • Queen-size beds
  • Slide in the feature pool
  • Table service restaurant (except POFQ).
  • Covered waiting area at the bus stop(s).
At POR, you will also be able to use the pool at POFQ since they are sister resorts. At ASMu, you will be able to use the pools at the other AllStar resorts for the same reason.

I can't answer whether those amenities are worth $300 for you. There are plenty of people who would tell you to save your money for something else because they only use their resort to sleep and bathe. I actually like to spend time at my resort, so I'm willing to pay a little bit more for the additional things that make it a more pleasant experience.

How may days/nights are you staying for that $300 extra? For a couple I wouldn't, but for a longer trip I definitely would. The mods are much nicer than the values, much quieter (in general), more restful, more space, etc. If you're talking $300 over a 7 night trip I certainly would move up for $43/night. For three days it might not be worth $100/night.
