How does one go about transportation from the All-Star Music Resort to the Boardwalk for the evening? We will not have a car. If a cab is the best bet, any thoughts on how much that would cost?

Well, depending on your time you could always take a bus to Epcot and take the boat from the international gateway to the boardwalk.......but that all depends on when you want to leave. If your going to one of the night clubs your only other bet is a cab. I don't remember the cost but it might range from 10 to 20 dollars???

That's a good suggestion, NJ2, but what might make even more sense (again, depending on the time) is for the OP to take a bus from the All Star resort to MGM, then the Friendship boat from there. While Epcot is a good idea, that would involve walking all the way through that park. With MGM, the OP can just step off the bus and walk directly to the dock. In fact, even if MGM closed within the last hour or so, they could ask a driver dropping off Guests from that park if she or he is heading directly back there to pick up more passengers. And of course, if it's an EMH night at either park, that makes the whole 'getting there' scenario more relaxed.
Now, getting back to the All Stars from the Boardwalk, odds are the options will be much more limited - most likely either a cab, or a bus to Downtown Disney and another bus back to their resort. Or, if Epcot's the EMH park and they don't stay at the Boardwalk too late, yes, they could walk through Epcot and grab a bus straight back to ASM.

Thank you to you both! I'm starting to regret not having a car! I'll pass this info onto my friends. Thanks again!

Also, why don't you make Epcot or the Studios your park for the afternoon, and just go to the Boardwalk from there.

There is no reason to go back to your resort to get ready for dinner unless you are going to a really fancy dinner like California Grill or Victoria and Alberts.

Our first trip, we brought "dinner" clothes and never used them. We plan our meals around what park we're going to be in for the afternoon.

I agree with clkelley. We also plan our meals in the resorts around our theme park scehdules. This way it's easy to get to that resort. Never try to go directly from one resort to another as this just takes too much time.
As noted, you can easily walk to the Boardwalk area from the Epcot International Gateway. You can also take a little longer walk from the Disney Studios. From either one you can also take the Friendship boats that travel between the two parks and make three stops at the Epcot resorts.
Returning is easy if either Epcot or the Studios is having an evening EMH. If not you can walk through the lobby of any of the Epcot resorts (Boardwalk, Beach Club, Yacht Club, Swan and Dolphin) and there are normally taxis waiting outside the main entrance. If one is not available the Cast Member outside will get one for you right away.
