All Star Music FAQ thread and tips

Unless they've added them in the past 6 months to the other buildings, Calypso and Jazz are the only buildings at ASMu with the curtains.

EDIT: After reading your post again, yes all the preferred rooms have the curtain.

Thanks!

Is all Star Music the most recently renovated of the value resorts? If so - which building was done most recently? If not, do you know which value resort was most recently renovated? Do they all have flat screen TVs now? Going in Sept, booked at All Star Music but was considering switching to All Star Movies. Can you help?

Music's refirb was done before I stayed there in 2008.

Pop was recently done-I think within the past year.

Movies is being worked on now.

Do all of the preferred rooms (not suites) have a privacy curtain between the bed and sink area? I remember our Jazz room had a curtain.

I have stayed in Broadway 2x and had no privacy curtain...once being last August. Maybe they added them recently?? :goodvibes

I would probably stay away from Movies until it is done. You won't be guaranteed a refurbed room. :goodvibes

Only the preferred builidings have the privacty curtain. Broadway is definately not preferred.:)

havent stayed here since 2008. Are they still doing the movies at night and pool activities during the day?

Are there coffee pots in the rooms? OR can you use a refillable mug for coffee?

I'm considering getting a preferred room (just a room--not a suite) at AS Music but since the preferred rooms are in just two buildings and most of those rooms are suites, I'm wondering if it's common for AS Music to overbook preferred rooms? Has anyone had experience with having to switch resorts if the preferred rooms are overbooked?

Somebody on the DIS had a thread about not getting the preferred room they paid for at ASMusic and having to accept a non-preferred room (the thread was about getting the $ for the preferred portion back). I don't know if they'd switch your resort or not.

Here's the break down for the preferred rooms....

building 1....32 suites and 128 reg rooms
building 10...54 suites and 84 reg rooms

I've twice now booked a preferred room at ASMu, and have not gotten it either time. The time it happened this past December, before I could even ask, the CM (who was supposedly the manager as I was not a happy camper) said the other Value resorts didn't have any preferred rooms available either.

I have decided that if I really want a preferred room, I will just stick with booking at the Sports. It is really a nice resort and the preferred section is very pretty==lots of blues and greens and a cute Surf's Up theme.

Thanks for the information! For as much as I love AS Music, this may prompt us to book at AS Movies or Pop. It's for the privacy curtain rather than location why we want the preferred room. We like having a bigger private changing area, and I think both Pop and Movies have curtains in every room and Music has curtains only in preferred rooms.

Thanks again. I'm not sure where we'll book yet, but knowing that we may get bumped from a preferred location which we paid for and put in a standard room (with a refund, but I'd rather have the room) is good to know.

As an fyi they will try to get out of giving you the refund. My experience (and I have sense heard from other posters who had the same thing happen) is that they will ask you if you would like to move to a preferred room if one opens up. If you refuse, as I did, they take that to mean they don't have to refund you the extra cost of the preferred room. I sent an e-mail once I returned home, and after a couple of phone calls from someone who listened to my story, I got the extra money back. They made me work for it.

I will say too that that whole experience has permanently changed how I view Disney and how they treat guests. And not for the good.

Wow...that is terrible...if you are downgraded from Preferred room to regular room the difference should automatically be credited for each night, no questions asked....:(

Yes, I agree. It's pretty much a no brainer....you should be given an on the spot credit.

I think the vast majority of hotels out in the real world would provide a courtesy upgrade if they over sold what you had already paid for.

Disney did not handle these situations well at all. If I were asked if we'd take a standard room now and then change rooms mid-trip when a preferred room opens, the answer would be no. This is for an 8 to 9 night stay, and we like to unpack and settle into our room. I wouldn't want to spend my vacation time re-packing and then un-packing again because the room I paid for wasn't available for the first night or two of the trip.

I agree that they should offer a preferred at another value resort on the spot, or an upgrade to a standard moderate room. If you opt to take a standard value room with a refund, that refund should be immediately given.

We had a very nice stay at Music in 2008, but I think we'll do Pop or Movies so we know we'll be getting the privacy curtain we want, plus both of those resorts have newer rooms.

how do I get a deal on this resort? weekend before thanksgiving

The only discount that is a always available is the AAA discount. There are a limited number of rooms available at each resort and Christmas is never available. My feeling would be that at this late date the time you want is probably sold out with that discount.

Aside from that check on the WDW website under the 'special offers' tab to see if there is anything for your dates. They have extended free dining into December but I have no idea if there are any dates that near to Thanksgiving.
