All Star Music FAQ thread and tips

We stayed in Jazz in 2 of our last 3 visits to ASMu and it was not preferred (and we were in the closest to Calypso that you could be!) I remember mentioning it to my husband how the rooms just across were 15 more per night!

Wow...I was told I could not request Jazz before my trip because it was preferred. And then told again when I arrived that I could not have Jazz. I wish the CM's could get it straight.... :confused3

Unless they changed something from last year. Jazz was just a regular room for all our visits.

I had that same conversation with my DH when we were at POP. We were staying 2 weeks so I thought booking a preferred room was worth while. Our room was on the 3rd floor (I've got bad knees...stairs are my enemy) so we had to use the elevator. We realized that the standard rooms were the EXACT same distance from the elevator....so it was a total waste of money.

For me though, I will pay for preferred at ASMu. We tend to spend a lot of time at the pool and the resort so having our room close by is useful. Plus, if the coffee is very close I won't have to convince DH of why he needs to go for it...not me.:rolleyes1

Calypso and Jazz are preferred I was told in check in. Some of Jazz isn't but only a small portion. When I booked my travel agent called and requested close to lobby for me for mobility problems, a medical fridge and ground floor. When we did online check in I requested the same. I also faxed them 7 days out. None were met. They couldn't move me either, fully booked - the could move me for the last night only!

I did get my medical fridge, and the manager said they could give me a coffee pot and some coffee for our first night since we had to get up at 3am and to make up for it. And with everything going on and us being distracted by anything shiny (or Disney - kind of like Doug from Up and squirrels) we forgot about it and never got that either.

Next time I am paying preferred. When you have some funky mobility problems to start with that is one freaking long walk. My athletic daughter hated the walk. My 10 year old spent each one swimming through all three pools on the way so she quite liked it :thumbsup2

My new husband went for coffee each day for us and with the walk there and back plus the morning food court crowds he was gone for about 30-40 minutes.

Country Fair is good for people who want to be close to parking or want the quiet though!

But WOW did I love the food at the food court!! AMAZING food for counter service!

I'm glad to hear you liked the food court! :thumbsup2 We've only stayed at Pop Century and this is our first time venturing over to Music and we really liked Pop's food court. I cannot start my day without coffee so we always just bring a small coffeemaker from home...has worked really well for us the past 3years. We do like to be close to the main building though travelling with the two kids.

I'm getting excited ....three more weeks tomorrow :cool1:

Are there towels provided at the pool? Still trying to decide between the familiy suites and POR, and it's silly, but I love having towels at the pool at Riverside. I hate having to call housekeeping to get more.

Also, I'm a pre-K special ed teacher. We go to Disney as soon as school gets out. One of the things I love about Riverside is the atmosphere because I truly relax when I'm there. How over the top is ASMu? I'm worried that the bright colors/noise level will send me over the edge after a year of singing "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" and playing legos. :)

When we were there they did not have towels at the pool but housekeeping is very generous with the towels. If you don't get enough right from the start one phone call and you will have more than enough for the rest of your stay.

I don't find the atmosphere to be loud at all...it's more of a party with friends feel. As far as noise, it's not any different than any of the mods, IMO. We spent many days relaxing by the pool.

No towels by the pool you will need to ask housekeeping or get them from the front desk. I spent time by the quiet pool near Country Fair section. Had no problem with noise. There will be some children there ... just like a MOD. There will be pool games & music at the main pool, avoid that if you want quiet. The icons are large and colorful - very different from POR landscaping. That will be a matter of personal choice for you. :goodvibes

It can get a little hectic around the guitar pool, but... the piano pool is nice and calm with soft classical music playing. Kids want to go to the "big, fun" pool. I spent an afternoon doing laundry and just relaxing by the piano pool and it was wonderful. :cloud9: IMHO, the piano pool is nicer and more relaxing than the POR quiet pool (at least the one between Acadian and Magnolia Terrace). I never really wanted to spend time there, but the piano pool I did.

Just booked the ASMu for May 3-10, 2011! :yay:

This will be our third stay - I would not stay anywhere else on property.

I requested the Calypso bldg., either #1 or #10, facing the pool, first floor. It's a very quick walk to the food court and buses.

BTW, the Calypso is the ONLY preferred building for the ASMu. Jazz is not preferred.

Hello Everyone!

Our family of 4 will be staying at ASM in December and we have reserved a family suite for 7 days. We would like to be able to purchase food off-site since we will have a small kitchenette. Is there a grocery store/mini mart relatively close to ASMusic that we could walk to? What food/drink does Disney allow into the theme parks? We plan on bringing quite a bit of non-perishable food items with us but we would like to purchase items such as milk, yogurt and the like once we get there.

Thank you for your help!

Angie

Nothing you can walk to. But, there are several ways of ordering delivery to the resort. I've used Garden Grocer quite happily, but, other people have good reports from the other options as well. Or, if you're willing to use the resort-to-resort bus system, Fort Wilderness and the DVC resorts all have small grocery sections.

If you are really only looking for a small assortment of standard perishable items you may even find them in the ASMusic shop since they tend to carry the basics.

Essentially you will pay a premium for finding the food item at a resort (ASMusic or DVC), but, you will also pay to have your food delivered. I've found that which option is best depends how much I'm planning to purchase that particular trip. If you are bringing your non-perishables from home and are only looking to add milk, eggs, bread then the resort stores are convenient enough to be preferable to delivery costs or the cost/hassle of a trip off-site. If you are planning to cook a few meals (and/or don't want to pay for the extra baggage fees of flying down with your food) ordering everything through one of the delivery services is absolutely worthwhile.

There's nothing within walking distance. I ordered from Garden Grocer and they delivered. When I arrived all the cold items were in the fridge.

Anyone have any idea how large the safes are in ASMu standard rooms? I did a search, but could not find anything.

I want to bring my camcorder--it is a mini dvd--so it is not too large. Thanks for any info.:thumbsup2

They are relatively small wall safes. I don't know the shape of your camcorder, but, many people seem to get lots into them.

I believe that bell services or the concierge desk has a bigger safe that you can ask to lock bigger items in.

AMAZING! How were you able to accomplish this?

I don't think she ment the fridge in her room.;)

Bell services has a large fridge and if groceries get there before you, Bell Service recieves them for you and they will put your cold items in thier fridge, till you pick them up.

At least that's what I've read, I've never used a grocery service.

If this has already been answered, I apologize.. I searched the thread, but didn't find the answer.

My daughter is preschool age and has a small swim ring. Will she be able to use this in the one of the pools?

Our groceries were delivered to ASMu while we were at the park - and Bell services actually put our items in our room fridge for us! And put the rest of the items nicely in our room. It was really nice!

We used garden grocer and they were awesome! :wizard:

The wall safes are tiny. But a minidv one should fit just fine. The safe was about as deep as my palm and about 8x10 in size if that help you out at all.

I don't have small children, but I am pretty sure you can take a small swim ring in the pool. I have seen other kids there with pool toys, maybe even noodles. They also provide life jackets at the pool. :goodvibes
