All Posters - Please Read - Updated post #37

Thanks for addressing this topic. I have gotten so much help and information from these boards by reading the posts of others, but have felt hesitant to start a thread or ask a question for fear of sounding dumb. I have often used the search function with success but as others have said, sometimes there are so many results containing so many lengthy threads that sifting through them was overwhelming.

As a relative novice, I appreciate being reassured that it's OK to ask "dumb questions." I love being part of this community!

I have actually had to put three posters on my ignore list this past month. (And their nasty comments weren't directed at me either!) I find about 99% of the people here are wonderful though and I just try to ignore the others

Isn't that sad to have to do, but just a one or two people, being rude, caustic and nasty can just bring down the whole disboard experience. Sure, sometimes we can not open a thread, but most of the time you don't know that someone along the line is going to be so icky!

Well put everyone. I agree 100%. There is way too much negativity in the world. I come here to plane my family vacation and enjoy the pleasant company of people who share in my Disney addiction. Silly spats is just plain a waist of time and energy.
There was a thread that really brought this home please read through this and enjoy!!!!! If you want negativity watch the news there is always plenty of bad things going on there.

Wow, I had totally forgotten all about that thread.....there were definately some nasties in there!

I have to say that even with a few bad apples (people with nothing better to do than to try and pick a fight) this is still one of my favorite places on the internet. The information I have learned here has been well worth any minor skirmishes!

Great job on continueing to encourage all of us to be kind and positive in our written word. When someone is nasty, my initial reaction is to take it personally...then ponder on it a bit...and realize that that person must be going through something very ugly at that time and to pray for them. I am sure that they can't be nasty all of the time! Thanks to everyone for the kindness that usually fills these boards! You are all appreciated!!!

Thanks Mary. I actually stopped posting on this main board a while back due to a very rude experience. That thread was pulled thank goodness but up until recently I was only going to one thread. Thanks for posting a reminder.

I realize many things in type can be taken wrong. I try to look at every post this way and hope the person did not mean it ugly. I know except for that one thread I have never meant anything ugly to another poster and pray no one has taken what I have written wrong.

Thank you so much for the reminder. I have felt so bad for so many new posters. No one should ever feel that they shouldn't post a question just in case it has been asked before. I honestly feel that there shouldn't be any negativity here at all. Everyone should feel welcome and feel free to post. It was nice in the beginning when everyone got along and was willing to help and support one another. Let's strive to become a happier bunch of DISers.

There is a point between being funny and having a good time, and being sarcastic (which originally meant to wound) and unfortunately, there are some folks out there who just like to !

I've the same questions posted over and over and I quite enjoy answering them over and over! I love to help out new cruisers! I look at from this point of view - it's like if you were leaving your job, you'd have to train a new person - then in a few years if you left that job - you'd have to train yet another person. I consider it on the job training!!!

I'm glad this was posted because there are some forums here that always seem to be rude and i have stopped posting there, but the cruise forum has always been like family.

When I first found these boards I KNOW I asked a lot of questions that had been asked before and people were very gracious to answer them and offer help. I apprecite all the help I have received here over the years--the information has always added to my cruise experience. I do hope those that have gotten nast realize who they are and mind their manners after the nice reminder.

I thought it would be a good time to add another reminder and also to let this thread flow through the regular threads. Sticky's are nice but not always read.

Again we are all entitled to our own opinions. Please don't judge or bash others if there style of vacation isn't the same as you. We all have different priorities, we all have different net worths, and we all have different ideas on what makes a great vacation.

When you come across a thread either here on the main board or on the trip reports board that you don't agree with you have one of two options. 1) disagree in a respectful manner or 2) walk away. Please do not post in a sarcastic or belittling manner as that only adds fuel to the fire. The original poster then feels attacked and usually will fire back in an equally sarcastic or belitting manner which is just as wrong.

Also while are fun smilies the simple use of them is often used to add to the drama of a thread.

99% of the posts on these boards are helpful and kind. Let's all work on making it 100%.
