I was standing right across from the American Adventure- the open area there has a nice slope to it for viewing the show. In the back you can set up a tripod and shoot over most of the people.
Interesting tip... Good to know as an option. :) But doesn't the center island block some of the show, like the Earth globe?

I had plans for getting some shots of the Illuminations crowd on the last trip but in the melee of finding a spot and setting up, it completely slipped my mind. Next time..........!

Here's a robot for tonight...

Mmmm- no- the island is off to the side I think. There is an outer area / railing they only open a few minutes before the show starts and only if certain weather conditions permit and you have to stay seated there. This ended up staying closed the night I was there. Up there you could set up the camera low and shoot thru the rails but it would be a gamble- if it did not open you would be stuck with a so-so spot.

Real nice shots, I love the clarity for the distance, what were your settings for these shots.?

Oh, my fault, when you said across from AA, I was thinking that you meant across the walkway, not across the whole lagoon. If I was paying attention, I'd have noticed that AA was visible in the background of your shots - and I was wondering why it seemed so close from way back there! Right in front there at the entrance to WS seems to be the best place to watch Illuminations, and the one that, up front, fills up very early. From video I've seen, it's also by far the best place to see the lasers (which can be almost unnoticeable from the sides.)

Here's a shot for today from my first DSLR...
