Thanks Ed... the last couple days I've been trying to recreate that look without making it too obvious. Some pictures it doesn't really look good on, but I thought this one looked pretty good...

Thank you Robert TG! Overall I was not very happy with the turn out of some of the darker ride photos I took. Namely Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan's Flight and Pirates of the Caribbean... Jeff (Gdad) and Joseph (We-Luv-Disney) have shown some fantastic shots from those rides and would probably be better ones to ask. I'll give you what I know though... First of all, since you can't use flash on these rides, you have to make use of what little light is available, which is the biggest problem - there's hardly any. A fast lens (like the 30mm f1.4) really helps for this. Open up the aperature all the way to 1.4 and use aperature priority mode to keep it there. Next, hike your ISO up almost to the point where there is more noise than detail. This is the part I don't like because I like to see lots of detail, but for the most part it's just not gonna happen on these shots. Although I have seen some low noise high detail shots that are amazing - I haven't figured out how they do it. On a dSLR this is normally ISO1600 or even ISO3200. You'll be lucky to get a decent shot out of ISO800 on most P&S's. This last tip I figured out towards the end of the trip. Most of these dark rides, especially the ones I mentioned above, are hard to get a good focus lock because of the low light contrast available. I constantly found myself with my camera focus seeking, which can be frusterating when everything looks good through the viewfinder and the camera won't take the picture... I found a focus mode on my camera that is bracket weighted, but will go elsewhere if need be. I think it is intended for action shots. The downside to this is sometimes it will focus on something different then what you want, but at least you get the shot... hope this helps, I'm learning though, and for the most part the Haunted Mansion pic was a lucky shot. (Sorry this is so long everyone, probably should have PM'd...)

Thanks guys!

Yeah, I hear ya. Actually, though, if you stand in just the right spot and zoom in a little you can get some pretty decent shots sans flag pole...

Great information and explanation of low-light shooting techniques Joe- very helpful! One question though- what "focus mode" are you referring to when you said you "found a focus mode on my camera that is bracket weighted, but will go elsewhere if need be." I have a Nikon too (D70s), and am not sure what you meant by this :confused3

Thanks again for all of your help with low-light shooting...

wdwensel, Thank You! I am happy with it. Love the colors reflected in the water in your POTD. Since it's technically a new day here's mine for today keeping in the theme.

Even though I'm not a Ms Piggy fan, here is one of her wardrobe trunks.

Sigh, seeing all these photos sure does make you want to be there. Here's a shot from one of my favorite places to relax at the World:

....I know what you mean, I wish I was there now too. We haven't been since they added the three caballeros to the ride. Can't wait to check it out. :)

I actually enjoyed the new ride quite a bit more. It's definitely more fun for the kids as well (being able to focus on Donald and his friends), but the one thing I do miss is the song from the old ride "Hola mis amigos....(It's been so long since I heard it, that I forget how it goes now).
