I can go back that far, as well - the original Opal, Benny, Estelle, Devon.......I remember that Devon was in love with her therapist, who was named Lynne, I think? She was played by Donna Pescow, I recall. Later, I think that Devon and Cliff were together for awhile. Does anyone remember how 3 different actresses played Nina, over the years, until they returned to the original actress? At one point, I remember Myra commenting about "Nina's beautiful, naturally red hair......" because the actress who was playing Nina at the time was a redhead.........even though Nina had always been blonde! I loved when Jenny, Greg, Liza, Jesse, and Angie were in high school......and soon after, Tad, Hillary, Dottie........and then Cecily, Julie, Charlie.......and then Nico (AKA Sonny from "GH") came to town.........and married Cecily and she won the Mrs. Homemaker's contest.........and then she wound up marrying new Charlie (who somehow became older than Tad) and left town with him........

I can do you one better than that! I remember when Phil went off to vietnam! Ok, so I was very young but I remember it!

I can't remember quite that far back.........but I definitely remember Phil and Tara! I always wonder why the older Martin children never seem to come back to PV to visit, any more. I think the last time that one of them visited, it was Tara, right after Kelsey gave birth to Sam.

By the way, just noticed this on Soap Central:

Source: LaRue Will Exit AMC This Summer
Posted Tuesday, April 05, 2005 5:06:16 PM

Despite efforts to quiet them, the whispers that Eva LaRue (Maria Santos) will exit All My Children later this year are growing louder and louder. Rumors that LaRue might exit the show first surfaced when it was revealed that she and former co-star John Callahan's (ex-Edmund Grey) real life marriage was ending.

LaRue has repeatedly expressed a desire to return home to be around her family in California - especially now that she and Callahan have separated. Career prospects on the West Coast look quite promising for LaRue. The actress landed a recurring role on "The George Lopez Show," earlier this year as the sister of the title character played by George Lopez. Additionally, LaRue has a role in a pilot that is under consideration for the fall lineup.

This would not be the first time that LaRue has left All My Children. In 1997, the actress jettisoned the daytime world to appear in a primetime series, the UPN network's "Head Over Heels." The sitcom was panned by critics and viewers weren't too fond of it either. After airing just a few episodes, the show was cancelled.

LaRue then focused her attention on her family. In December 2001, LaRue and her husband welcomed daughter Kaya Mckenna. While ABC executives reportedly were trying to coax LaRue back to All My Children, LaRue expressed her desire to remain with her daughter. In June 2002, however, LaRue reconsidered and rejoined the cast of All My Children.

Upon her return to All My Children, LaRue was thrust into a front burner storyline. But as the storyline came to its conclusion, LaRue and her character were not often seen on-screen. It was around that same time that the actress' personal life took precedence over that of her on-screen alter ego.

"We have a rather big bombshell to drop and we don't quite know how to say it," LaRue said in a statement in July 2004. "John and I, after many months of separation, are confirming our split."

The actress assured fans that her real life situation would not play out on the airwaves.

"We want to assure all the [Edmund and Maria] fans that we are dedicated to protecting these characters we love so dearly." LaRue offered. "We have always looked out for each other, and nothing will ever change that. So far we're excited about the way the new story is going."

In February 2005, an unknown killer took the life of Edmund Grey and with it came the end of John Callahan's 13-year run on All My Children. And, if insiders are correct, July will mark the end of LaRue's presence in Pine Valley as well. Reportedly, LaRue has already informed show execs that she will be exiting and the writers are already at work on how to write out her character.

An ABC spokesperson reminded Soap Opera Central that "ABC does not comment on contracts."

I'm getting tired of Maria anyway. Let her go make it in the big time. ;)

I loved the old days of Liza/Tad/Marion - what a tangled web that was! :rotfl:

Who remembers Tad as the shampoo boy at the Glamorama who offered much more than shampoos??

Billy Clyde Tuggle was about my favorite character- I loved the way he used to taunt Donna all the time!! And, I LOVED Charlie- why don't they bring him back?

Ann :earsgirl:

I think the farthest back I can go is when Mona and Charles were in love but he was still married to Phoebie. I do remember Erica owned a disco at one point when she was married to Tom I think. I think that's as far as I go.

You bet. :rotfl:

Who remembers when Tom Cudahy owned "The Goalpost"? I believe that was during the time that him and Erica and Brooke were all tangled up.

And yep - Billy Clyde was the best character AMC ever had. I can still hear his voice in my nightmares. :rotfl:

The funny thing is Eva LaRue left once before because she had grand plans to make it in prime time and they failed miserably. For a while she was on some show that the filmed at Epcot actually. I forget the show, other than the fact it was filmed at Disney World it wasn't very memorable. Maybe this time she will make it since she has been on George Lopez recently. I agree with all of you in that I miss some of the grand storylines that that had in years past. When they had a whole cast of characters you wanted to watch and rooted for. Lately most of the characters have little to no redeeming values and the stories are insulting to watch. Bring back Janet and Trevor, they always had some comic appeal or even Simone would be fun to watch. I am so tired of watching a different character ever year delve into the depths of insantity and dealing with a horrible childhood or past. Let's have some fun on AMC and soon.

I'm getting really old - I remember all of those old storylines mentioned. The one about Phillip going to Vietnam happened when I was young also, but I do remember it.

I started watching with my mom years & years ago. Funny thing, she no longer watches, but myself, my DD's & my sisters all still watch it!

I think my favorites were Jenny & Greg. I also liked Nina & Cliff in the early days, always liked Angie & Jessie & Tad with all his games. Still enjoy Tad. He's too funny some times! :goodvibes

Oh Melsmice...those were my favorites too...Tad and Jessie were always great together. I do miss the good old days.

Oh gosh, I remember all those people too!! Those stories were definitely a lot better than what we're getting now. Remember Paul (Joe's brother) and Anne Martin and all the problems they had having a baby? And Billy Clyde---now he was one of SOAPS all-time great villains!! I have vague memories of him locking someone (Estelle maybe) up in a coffin or a crypt?

Oh I also miss those good story lines. Loved Tad & Jessie. We need those writers back.

Thanks for the spoilers. :) I can't wait to see how this Di/Dixie thing is going to turn out. Now, if it is Dixie, do you think she has amnesia, or she's just bluffing?

JMO - but I think she's bluffing. :flower:

She has had MAJOR reconstructive Surgery, as this "Dixie" is about 10 years younger looking! :confused3 :sad2:

I'm thinking that too. But how did sweet old Dixie become this evasive and devious? Only time (and hopefully a good writer) will tell. ;)

When I last watched AMC regularly, Cady McClain played Dixie. Were there any other actresses playing Dixie after her?

And several inches taller. Cady McClain was a tiny little thing!

Nope, Cady was the last. The only other one, was that bleach blonde with the big head of hair who played Dixie right when they first came to town.
