But why, after wooing McClain away from ATWT, is AMC now killing her off? Blame it on ABC daytime and those darn focus groups. According to show head writer, Megan McTavish, who has traditionally been a staunch supporter of the Tad and Dixie pairing and has written some amazing scenes for them, focus group results want more of Krystal and Babe.

ummmmm..YEAH RIGHT! hahaha!!! where ON EARTH are these so called focus groups??

I think they just need the cheaper actresses! ughh!!!

Oh really? We find that hard to believe. The feedback we get from fans is that they are so tired of and bored with the "Babe and Krystal show." Guess none of those fans participated in ABC’s focus groups.

Two-time Daytime Emmy winner Cady McClain, who returned to the role of AMC's Dixie in December 2005 after a four-year absence, is leaving the show by month's end. Executive Producer Julie Hanan Carruthers is staying mum for now, noting, "I want viewers to have the experience of how it plays out. It’s very heightened stakes. It’s one of the strongest weeks we’ve ever done." But she gives Digest the inside scoop on Dixie's dramatic exit in next week's cover story. The issue, dated January 30, 2007, will be on newsstands on January 23.

While I was watching the show today I kept thinking there are so many others they can get rid of..........how about Derrick, Dell, Jeff Martin, even Joe Martin - he has to pulling a huge salary & really has no part in the show any more.

Oh, man! I hope they don't cancel AMC! As sick as I am of Babe, I've been watching for 25 years, and it would be like losing a friend. I hope they don't think everyone is going to switch to another soap, I know I won't be.

If they really need to cut down on their soap opera airtime, couldn't they just merge a couple of soaps, thus keeping both audiences? They connected AMC and OLTL with the baby switch storyline, why not just bring the two back together again and call it "All My Children's Lives to Live"?

I heard that NBC is looking at expanding the Today show to another hour. It would wind up leaving DOOL as the only soap on NBC. Passions would be cancelled.

I also heard that AMC and OLTL might go to 1/2 hour shows to make room for another ABC network show during the day.

They are possibly cancelling AMC? Well then by all means lets let go one of the cherished heroines of the show. All this ridiculous teenage stuff..getting rid of original characters..or at least ones that have given the show roots..like Edmund...remember him. They let him go because they were paying him too much and could pay these young kids with BORING storylines way less. Well, that certainly seems to have worked.
I even liked the Babe/Jr/Jamie storyline..but they are redoing this stuff with her..now only it's Josh..it's the same old...same old. Having Bianca be gay...that was interesting and real...but now this Zarf/Barf..give me a break..it's so over the top and out there, I find it unwatchable. Again..not the cross gender issue...so much as the way the have presented it.
Erica being 60 and going on yet another husband...give me a break. The woman would have given up on hubby's and had a nice little boy toy years ago..ala Demi Moore!
I wish they would have developed Tad/Dixie more than they have. As far as I can see..they really didn't do to much with either of these characters until recently. Could have been so much better..and yet they had Dixie going down this road with Zach for a bit. Such a waste..for her to come back only to be killed off...haven't we seen that too?...How many times is the woman going to die.

In my neck of the woods, Long Island NY, the Today Show (NBC) runs 3 hours live from 7-10 am. When I travel I notice in many parts of the coutry they do not show the last hour of the show, or they televise the last hour at another time of the morning.

On ABC, there is Regis & Kelly 9am, Rachel Ray 10am, The View 11am, News 12, Millionaire 12:30 , AMC at 1

JMHO, they should axe The View....that show really stinks now anyway...from what I have heard the Pig woman isn't going to be around much longer anyway.

I've never been a huge Rosie fan..but I've gotta tell you The View is more interesting now than it ever was before. That show was on life support prior to this season. I find it odd that I like Rosie on the View..considering politically we are pretty far apart. But Elizabeth holds her own with her..and I like that she says what people are really thinking but don't want to say out loud. Has made some interesting "View-ing". Just my opinion...anyway..I guess it isn't a View thread but an AMC thread. Just don't think they are going to axe it any time soon and keep AMC instead.

The idea of half hour shows...something to think about. Ever watch the repeats of Ryan's Hope. Remember half hour shows?...They actually moved MUCH faster than the one hour format they have now. There wasn't the endless time wasted that they have in the one hours. You would have thought that with more time ...more story would have been covered or developed..not so. They just D-R-A-G it out. The stories were quicker when they only had that half hour. Maybe not such an awful option. How many of us actually speed through them ..when we tape them. I can watch AMC in 20- to 30 minutes tops.

I agree with this 100%! I do not see eye to eye with Rosie as far as her "views" go on pretty much anything but i think she brings SOMETHING to the show that was much needed. On the other hand, i could not stand Star Jones and was glad to see her go, but not the way it happened. Although Rosie and Star showed Baba Wawa for what she really is, a two-faced hypocrit. Same with The Donald. Those are two i have zero respect for anymore. Sorry for going off topic!

If you have ever been up late at night and had to watch TV to get yourself back to sleep, you'll know what I am talking about. They have some of the stupidest shows on at 3AM. I did read that Soap net was considering picking up some soaps(AMC in particular) if they are cancelled, i can't remember where I read though, maybe TWoP.

I don't think that fewer characters and fewer story lines would be a problem. I think that probably is the problem with the one hour shows. They take too much time dragging things out. Very often to the point of boredom. You know you can go a week and nothing but dramatic dirty looks..or people lurking and overhearing the same old..same old.. conversations while hiding in the Chandler mansion walls! They all lead up to these days when sweeps occur..and then something huge will go on that will change the story significantly.
I'm not actually advocating the half hour show..just that they did move faster..and I could really deal with less teen stuff..which I think they use these young actors to fill time ..pay them less..and phase out the established higher paid actors. Edmund, Brooke..Maria..David...They keep Erica because she is the anchor...but they give her these ridiculous storylines that a woman of her age..just would have been passed already. "oh..do I love Leisure suit Jeff..or Jack?(maybe she needs an eye exam to figure that one out..another post ) I don't think teens are at all interested in these soaps, not where they once might have been. With all the cable shows available to them. This is to boring and tame for them. While the stories involving Babe and her mom were good..but then they go and BEAT THEM TO DEATH! How many times can you watch the same story with different players at bat. You kind of know the way it's going to go. Babe..loves JR...Babe loves Jamie...or Josh...Babe is going back to the "screamer"...poor abandoned JR. Again and Again.
Having Dixie and Tad back together..or even working on their issues..of why she left to begin with and the choices she made with their daughter..now that was some of Tad's best work..and they should have expanded on that. Really show what these two are made of and perhaps a bit of their history for newer viewers. But then they have...Jack's nephew..and Colby..and the Sweet 16..and what a waste of time. We need to see that..talk about boring..and the fact that last year Colby was all of 5..and now she's 16...anyone who has watched a while..is going to be aware of that. Quite a jump...and not really an interesting one. Just one to fill time with, while Dixie gets the axe..and Tad...who's left for him..how long before it's his head on the chopping block? I think they really need to take a look at this show and make some serious changes in direction..or maybe they have..and I'm just not headed in the same direction as it is. But the fact that it's even rumored that this soap that I've watched since DAY ONE is falling by the way side ...well that in itself says something. I think the creative writing team needs to take a closer look and get rid of some of the kids and figure out who the real audience is... and take it from there.

I could actually handle this! I would like the idea of half hour shows! as it is now, i'm lucky if i can watch a half hour!! and PAssions HAS to be the worst SOAP on tv! i actually catch myself watching it every now and then! it's like a train wreck!
