All FP machines to be removed from Animal Kingdom by next week and....

You couldn't pay me enough to be a CM in the parks while this is going on. Poor things. I think we should start a "Hug a CM Today" movement. :goodvibes

Haha, soo true, I feel like there will be a lot of fires that will need to be put out at Animal Kingdom coming soon...

Do these CEO's ever visit their own parks? They seem to have lost touch with what is really going on, one of the Disney CEO's needs to be on the Bosses Undercover Show, that might help open their eyes.

I realize that I am making a big assumption, but assuming everyone is willing to get FP selections at AK in roughly equivalent numbers to those who would have pulled FP on the same day, then does it really matter *how* they get those FP?

So Joe Jersey comes to the park with Joan Jersey and little John Jersey. They are staying at the Hilton Bonnet Creek and buying tickets at the AK gate. They want to ride EE, KS, and Dinosaur. If they go to the kiosk and are able to make those selections, then does it really matter that they weren't able to put their ticket into the machine and get a paper FP?

I believe that Disney believes that the Jersey family will have this experience at AK next week.

In theory, they should have access to those three rides.

No, of course not. But it's been obvious to those paying attention that this was all going to happen very quickly and on no notice.

(1) What percentage of people going to Disney are "paying attention" to that degree?

(2) How many people who were paying very close attention actually thought they would cover all fastpass machines at a park a week before Christmas with only a few days notice?

(3) What percentage of guests walking into AK on Dec 18 will have had any idea what is happening? The funny thing is, the people who did no research will probably take it more in stride than the people who have been planning their trips for months.

The ripping off of the band aid was going to come at some point. Like others have said though, some advance notice to those that Disney knew would be coming during these times would've been nice I'm sure.

I get your point, but I wonder what percentage of these "know nothing" visitors are going to care about the change. Some might think it's great.

I believe that Disney believes that the Jersey family will have this experience at AK next week.

And I believe the Jersey family will spend the first fifteen minutes trying to understand what the heck the CMs are talking about since this is not the way their friends said FP was on their trips (how will this be explained to guests entering the park?), then get in a long line at a kiosk while Dad curses the idea of waiting just to book rides, and then maybe get them booked or maybe run into a technical glitch and want to break the machine, while people behind them are getting annoyed. And the family who arrived a little later will find that all the afternoon times are gone because all the early people booked three at once, and they are mad because no one told them the rules changed.

But hey, at least it's not at Epcot, where the Jersey family would be staring at the screening, while Dad shouts, "What do you mean, I can only choose Soarin' or Test Track! or Maelstrom or Illuminations. I don't even know what Maelstrom is. Wait a minute, other people are going on these rides right now while I'm stuck at this stupid kiosk!"

Until next week, you don't know that any of this will happen. You just don't. Also, you don't know whether the day-of FP+ choices will be tiered because we haven't seen it yet. My point is, if everyone gets to ride the rides they want and gets the FP they want, then who cares how it happens? Might there be a few kinks at first? Yes, I imagine there will be, but that's the price of change and progress (see, for reference, every iPhone or Microsoft launch). But to complain about FP- machines being covered without "notice" is elevating form over substance.

Well

1. Can the kiosks handle the load? esp. when this will be the first time the vast majority will have seen this technology
2. As Robo said, under FP- you could see the return time - what if they wait in line for 20 minutes and the FP's are gone or out to Park close?
3. Are they going to have their full day planned enough to know what they want to ride and when they want to ride it?
4. Are they going to have to make 3 selections, can they do just one? And then have to get back in line for another, not knowing what is now available?
5. As many said, what about those off-site veterans, not checking boards and expecting to go and pull FP-?
6. What's this going to do to RD?
7, Will they allow the CM's staffing this to carry a flask to get through the day?

Well, we don't even know for sure that this rumor is true.

I guess that site was wrong when they posted about what was going to happen at POP, too, right? Or when they said what was going to happen at All Stars, too, right?

I have a feeling your popular "Who hates FP+" thread is going to see an uptick in activity.:thumbsup2

I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm saying we don't know when it will happen or how Disney will notify people.

I don't know the answers to any of your questions, and neither do you. :)

Except for 7, which I'm pretty sure will not be allowed. But yeah, I feel for the CMs for sure.

Yes, I'm sure some will. But I feel the worst for the people who carefully plan their trips and then get surprised by changes, whether it's no cards at Pop or no FP machines at AK.

Using a neutral voice, I asked some friends who like Disney and plan their trips months ahead, but were not currently planning trips, what they thought about FP+. They did not know what I was talking about and were confused and irritated by the idea of prebooking. They were more confused and irritated when I told them about the current three/day limit.

Are they regular FP legacy users?

2 things:

1) FP+ is NOT FP- ... there are major substantial differences (some just pointed out by a PP, but others as well) between the two programs.

2) If you booked and paid for a vacation, when according to Disney FP- would still be running, and ... 3 days ??? before you arrive you find out it has completely changed, even just for one park, though you might also be at POP or All Stars and have it gone in the other parks, this is simply unacceptable.

Your point would be like arguing if I ordered and paid for a red car, and a Blue car showed up, and I was angry, I would be complaining about form over substance. Actually in this case its worse, because the substance is also different. FP+ in SUBSTANCE is different than FP- ... and worse yet, I am already there, or have book and paid for this months in advance, and I can't just return it and go to another car dealer.

You did not answer my question though, do you really think Disney will hold back FP for day of and allow the person pre-planning their trip to go without FP reservations?

I know Jay Rasulo's answer to this question, and that's a pretty important person within Disney.

Is the premise that a need/desire to "hold back FPs" a given?

The running out of FPs under the former system occurred on a limited number of rides, at a time when single visitors could get multiple FPs for the same ride over the course of a given day. This was exacerbated when FP+ was added and ran concurrent with legacy system.

Several factors will reduce demand for FP+. Most obvious is the limit of 3 for a single park. Another is/will be tiering of attractions. Another will be elimination of single visitor obtaining multiple FPs for same ride. Another will be inability/refusal of guest to commit to a park months before visit. Another will be inability/refusal to draw FP+ for given time due to family makeup.

We simply have to wait until all of these factors get baked into the cake and human nature exerts its full effect.

Within the short course of this thread, where a few doubted Disney would do this or that a week before Christmas, those doubts shown to wrong.
