All about the Autotrain

I tried to talk my husband into doing this. I work until 5pm and if we did this we would still be fighting rush hours traffic to get from Philly to VA. We are going to leave early Friday morning and use backroads if needs be!

I received the phone call & follow-up email regarding the arrival time changing for our trip at the end of the month. I was a bit concerned so I called to confirm, but the only change is the earlier arrival. I guess we are all set!

Kicking myself for not booking return trip. I just looked and the price for roomette went way up so it would cost more than the trip down with an extra person! So looks like I'm driving home alone.
I could take the train and sit in a seat but being alone I'm a bit unsure about that. I don't think I could sleep.

There is a trial going on for the roomette with no meals at much lower price. You might have seen the full price or didn't realize you booked a no-meal room the first time. I would call them up to confirm the pricing. I do know the price on certain days is much different in cost. We carefully look for trains when we take it down and some trips is half the price.

I got the same call...panicked and the realized we would be getting home earlier!

I hope not! Dang I will be upset if we have no meal nQUOTE="Accident, post: 54197819, member: 555845"]There is a trial going on for the roomette with no meals at much lower price. Ok so looked at my confirmation and it says "premium" roomette do I am assuming I get food. It's not cheap. But seeing the roomette going for over $330 kind of surprised me.
The trip home would cost $30 'more than the trip down and I am less one person. So overall about $130 more.

Going nuts clearly as the train gets booked prices skyrocket. The same trip has now gone up again. Roomette being over $400. I was all set to bite the bullet and then that. I am stressing big time now.

Final update! I booked for a day later. I would rather spend the extra$150 in Florida vs. on the train. So now I have to find a hotel for Sunday night......

so I lied- this is the final update
The price for the Monday train actually dropped today by $75. So I called and they credited me the difference! Nice so check even after you book because if the price decreases they may be willing to refund you. (I checked the Sunday train and it's still outrageous! $700-!

On the AutoTrain? I think you are mistaken. Meals are always included. There aren't any no meal rooms or seats on the AT. Proof and link please... I did a search for the heck of it and nada.

Yes, always on the AT. Everyone onboard gets dinner and breakfast.

Always check the AMTRAK website after you book... The prices change all the time. I booked on Aug 3 for a June 2016 trip, checked yesterday (aug 10) and the price dropped for the rooms and car. Our group saved 800 on 4 rooms.

Yes i read some recent reviews stating it's cereal or bread kind of breakfast. I heard it used to be french toast! Mmmm oh well i am bringing a protein bar just incase there is nothing great for breakfast

Just traveled on AT can confirm that the breakfast table had some cereal mini boxes (we had frosted flakes, special K and raisin bran at our table), a basket of muffins/bagels (with cream cheese and butter), orange juice and bananas.

How was the ride? Did you arrive on time?
