Alien Encounter Question

We are going next week and I have a question about Alien Encounter. I know that it is now a Stitch ride which (most?) people don't really like. In 1995, we went to WDW for our Honeymoon. I believe it was right after the ride first opened. I rode it and remember being scared silly. It was pretty intense.

Then, 5 years later, we went again and I rode it again. Although I knew what to expect, it was nowhere near as intense. Some of the really scary stuff was missing. Did they tone it down after the first few years?

I'm also assuming that it is now much more mild than even 5 years ago and don't really plan on going.

And one completely unrelated question: What/Where is Mickey's Philaharmonic. I saw it mentioned favorably in another thread.

Mickey's Philharmagic is located in Fantasyland across from the carousel in the building formally held by the Lion King show....it's a great 3D show and is not to be missed. :wave2:

Now, it is an attraction- not really a ride- for kids who like Stitch. I think they did tone it down because kids wanted to go on it and it was scary. I think it is something you should try once.

Mickey's PhilharMagic is in FantasyLand, near the Winnie the Pooh ride. It is in the theatre where the Lion King puppet show used to be. It is a great 3D movie, at least I think so.

Stitch's Great Escape is much milder than AE. I liked AE - I don't think they toned it down, but knowing what's coming makes a HUGE difference in how you experience the attraction.

The Stitch AA is great. There are some funny moments, but overall it seems incomplete. i know they were supposed to have a diferent film at the end for day and night, but even that got cut out. My kids (huge Stitch fans) love it, but I can take it or leave it. I do recommend seeing it once, as the wait is rarely long (the theater seats a lot, so the evven a long line goes in quickly).

Mickey's Philharmagic is a great 3D movie in Fantasyland (where Legend of the Lion King used to be). It uses a huge seamless screen, and a few smell effects. It's right up there with Muppet Vision as one of my favorite 3D movies at WDW.

I hated Alien Encounter- but I think Stitch is cute. I escpecially like the preshow.

I remember them saying that the AE attraction was toned down a bit because guests felt that it was not exactlly "Disney"- like.

Alien Encounter was great... The stitch thing that it got turned into isn't bad, I went in expecting to hate it, but I didn't hate it, but I didn't exactly love it like I did with Alien Encounter.

I must agree with everyone that Philharmagic is a must see 3d show...

I LOVED AE!!! Man when that thing breathed down my neck and spit on me I thought I'd jump out of my seat!! It was such a thrilling ride. To this day my dad still thinks someone in the audience spit on him. LOL He refuses to believe it was part of the attraction. LOL

Mickey's Philharmagic is great. It's a must see (a couple of times!) on each of my trips. :)

For an idea of how mild Stitch is my 7yr old hated tower of terror, didn't care for Haunted Mansion which she rode once but didn't care to go again, but loved Stitch and wanted to ride again which we did. It's a cute show and funny, even my teens were quoting lines from the attraction during the week. Much better then AE which totally freaked out my oldest when he was 8 and traumatized him so he didn't want to go on any rides that "might" be dark and have things jumping out at him.
