I know that TV contracts are pretty iron clad for 6 seasons. That is why a lot of movie stars are hesitant to sign on to TV series, because if it goes for 6 seasons, they are stuck.
That's not necessarily true anymore. There is probably a clause where the producer can get rid of some characters if (s)he deems it in the best interest of the show to "creatively move in another direction".
Remember the roommate Francie (Merrin Dungey) got killed off & Sydney's best friend, the writer, (can't remember his name, Will, was it?) has been moved to witness protection.
If you're a "Boston Legal" fan, actress Lake Bell was off the show halfway through the season. I remember her on some interview a several weeks before, saying how excited she was being with the show.

This season, now Monica Potter has been replaced by a new blonde. And the African American female intern (who was on "Boston Public,") has been replaced by another one.
While I hate that MV will be off the show, he was too moody-broody last season, after the break-up with Jen. If he is really gone, I'm glad for him he will be able to get a fresh start away from the JenBenBaby thing.
The fact that many of us keep mentioning how weird it is to watch the Vaughn & Sydney love scenes because we keep thinking about their history in real life, means it's distracting from the show. It's probably better Sydney also starts out fresh.
I just hope they're done with that Rimbauldi crap.
If MV does come back for the last 4 episodes, it may be in "flashbacks" (but with new footage) showing parts of Sydney's life that she remembers with Vaughn that we
didn't get to see before. Maybe having the baby triggers those "flashbacks" of Vaughn. Those are my guesses.
