I'm helping my 8th grade nephew and we're stuck on a problem. I know someone here can help. Here it is--x+3+x/2=1. I can usually do them but the division throws me. Appreciate any help. TIA

I asked because typing it out here can make it look different than the original question.
Where x + 3 + x is over 2
x + 3 + x = 1
2
is a totally different problem.

And was the first x a positive or a negative?
That changes the answer as well.
I am such a math teacher- even on the disboards.![]()
I get -1.33 also. The first x was not negative and the 2 went under the second x if that helps. I think I got -1.33 also. I'll find out for sure this afternoon if my nephew writes down the correct solution like I told him to when they correct the problems. Thanks for all your help, though.
