Also, are there small refrigerators in the rooms (cat 6)? And how does it work with soda - is it free only in the dining rooms?

On Dream, they have real refridgerators in the rooms, on the Wonder they have "cooling boxes", some are cold, some are just cool. The Magic has mostly cooling boxes, some rooms have new fridges.

Soda is included in your cruise price at meals and from the drink station. Sodas that you get from poolside servers, in bars/lounges, from room service, and outside the theatres have a cost.

The alcohol was in a carry on but I am not sure at what point of boarding that it was confiscated.

Maybe it was when the security person was about to go on a lunch break.

I was just wondering if I should bedazzle my CamelBak for formal night or just wear it under my dress

We were on the Dream for the New Years Cruise. Each adult brought a bottle of wine in the carryons, no problem. In addition we bought liquor in Nassau and carried it onto the ship and were allowed to keep it in the room.

This was a happy change from other cruise lines where you have to stand in line to hand over your alcohol wait for them to return it on the last night.

I think you would be surprised.

I know of at least one member of the DIS with a Sponsor/Other "badge" and seen another that admitted to doing just that.

I'm not sure that this is true, actually. Or if it is, it's not enforced. We usually hit the parks before a cruise and on more than one occasion I've taken a partially used bottle of Scotch on board without an issue.

From the OP's post that the friend's alcohol was confiscated upon boarding, I am guessing it was purchased at another port DURING the cruise and was taken upon boarding to be held until the end of the cruise. I think that has always been DCL's policy, hasn't it?

Maybe it is at certain ports, but I've brought alcohol onboard DCL ships from several different ports, so it is not a general DCL policy.

No..that wouldn't be it...DCL has always allowed purchases of booze in other ports to be brought onboard and consumed onboard....except for Grand Cayman. In Grand Cayman all liquor purchases must be delivered to the ship and since DCL does not accept deliveries in port you can't get booze in Grand Cayman. When in a liquor store the clerks ask what ship you are on and if you say Disney I don't think they even sell it to you. They also close down liquor sales 2 hours before a ship's departure so they have time to deliver it to the ships (non Disney ships).

Really? Spend thousands on a vacation then abandon your family to hike around the ship in order to avoid paying a couple bucks for an extra glass of wine? If Disney suspends the privilege of bringing wine onboard, it won't be for the few who bring a glass into dinner. It will be for the ones hauling Big Gulp cups of alcohol in or sprinting back and forth numerous times to bulk up in their room.

My comment about top up's wasn't just about in the restaurant's, but extend's to the bar's and pool deck's as well.

Is this new? I went to Grand Cayman in 2008 on the Magic and bought rum. I just bought it in town and carried it back to the ship. They did have to hold it for me until the last night unlike the Tequila I got in Cozumel which I took straight to my room.
