Alcohol

Is this new? I went to Grand Cayman in 2008 on the Magic and bought rum. I just bought it in town and carried it back to the ship. They did have to hold it for me until the last night unlike the Tequila I got in Cozumel which I took straight to my room.

No..that wouldn't be it...DCL has always allowed purchases of booze in other ports to be brought onboard and consumed onboard....except for Grand Cayman. In Grand Cayman all liquor purchases must be delivered to the ship and since DCL does not accept deliveries in port you can't get booze in Grand Cayman.

I think you just got lucky buying the booze without being challenged.
The Cayman's exception might be something to do with DCL - AKA the Magical Cruise Company being registered in the UK, and Grand Cayman being a UK territory? :confused3

Ex Techie :)

I really hope this isn't the new policy. I have always brought a bottle on board with me! pirate:

Fortunately, rum is some of the cheapest liquor around, so you're not saving as much by buying duty-free in the Carribean.

Not the same for tequila, which can be expensive depending on what brands you buy. So while I'm a little bummed that I can't buy rum in Grand Cayman, I'm thankful that at least I'll be able to buy a bottle or two of tequila while in Costa Maya / Cozumel.

Interesting about the no buy rule in Grand Cayman.

I will be cruising on the Fantasy next January, with one of the ports of call San Juan Puerto Rico. Does anyone know if cruise ship passengers can buy rum there to bring aboard? I am a big fan of flavored rums.

We have brought alcohol with us for every cruise so far, most recently January 25th (2 small bottles of wine and 2 dozen mini Captain Morgan's bottles for the FE exchange. :thumbsup2 ) with no issues whatsoever.

I have a question about leftover alcohol though -

We also receive the wine package and champagne as gifts onboard from DH's boss... if we were not able to finish it before the cruise ended, would we not be allowed to take it with us? (Hasn't been an issue yet, but we've only done 3 day cruises so far... going on the Fantasy in April and not sure we can maintain the pace for that long!! :lmao:)
