Alcohol at Chuck E Cheese yes or no - What do you think??

I visited Chuck E Cheese about 2 weeks ago and noticed that wine and beer was on the menu. I was extremely surprised and appalled to see it being offered at an establishment that is geared towards children. I saw one woman walking around with a plastic cup of beer. When I sent an e-mail to Customer Service, I was told that they surveyed mothers, and they felt it was "appropriate" and even "desirable" to sell alcoholic beverages.

What do you think?? Should Chuck E Cheese sell alcohol to adults who might be responsible for transporting children in a car??

CEC's is just like any other restaurant that serves alcohol. Why shouldn't they serve alcohol? By your logic, alcohol shouldn't be served at any restaurant, ball games, carnivals or a myriad of other places.

I don't think it's any biggie. Most restaurants serve alcohol. CC is responsible for proper serving/monitoring like any other restaurant.

I'd almost tend to think it's safer since they have someone at the door checking people out. It's probably easier to spot someone who has had too much.

Kids can understand that alcohol can be enjoyed in moderation as just another part of life. I don't think creating an artifical environment really helps them.

Finally, they serve alcohol at Epcot, MGM, and AK. Somehow the world keeps turning and we haven't raised generations of lushes!

This is a kid-focused facility, pure and simple. If a parent can't spend a couple of hours there without a drink, then there is a problem.

Granted... after a couple of hours at Chuck E Cheese... I know I need a good strong drink.

Really? Well then what about other restaurants or even Disney World as someone mentioned. No flames, but honestly how is CECs different from any other eating establishment? What about Red Robin? That's a restaurant heavily geared towards kids and they have a HUGE bar.

the kids get their hamster tunnels to crawl through and I get beer, it's a perfect combination. my daughter is 12 and I've never been hit with a DUI. so let's continue to allow adults to make their own decisions.

I disagree. It's a facility designed to get as much money out of each and every parent who walks through that door knowing they will cave into their offspring. If it was totally focused on the kids, every game would be free. Simply buy your lousy pizza and go play. Instead, you need to buy your huge stash of tokens to earn a wheelbarrow load of tickets to get something you could outright purchase for 1/3 the price at toys-r-us. It's not a peacefull park where kids can run and play in the sun and fresh air, it's a loud flashing monstrocity uniquely designed to part you from your cash in a long and painful process... But I could be a tad jaded.

It's possible to be a responsible parent and still drink a beer or two. It is possible to drink a beer, eat some food, and drive home an hour after drinking that beer - for a normal adult there will be an insignificant amount of alcohol left in the bloodstream by then. Adults have to make decisions about drinking all the time - whenever they go out to eat (often, with their kids!), when they go to a family gathering, when they go to Disneyworld .... if they can be "trusted" to do this at all these times, why not at Chuck E Cheese?

I know our local CEC has a 2 beer limit. It's not like people are falling down drunk. Like tohters have said, what about WDW and other amusement parks?

Thanks everyone for your honest responses. I just wanted to get opinions. My reason for asking, or really my concern is that the difference with CEC is there are kids running all over the place, as opposed to a restaurant where for the most part, people are seated at tables. As I mentioned in my post, I saw a woman walking around the area where the kids play games with a cup in her hand. I was hoping that a child didn't run into her, causing her to spill the drink on any small children. If adults are going to drink alcohol, they should remain at the tables and not walk around the children. Just my 2 cents...

As a survivor of many a Chuck E. Cheese party, a glass of wine IS sanity in that place. And the wine is so horrendous, there is no chance of over imbibing

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! There's enough goofy people at CC WITHOUT the ALCOHOL. Oh, wait, that's just my family!!!!! A few beers would probably HELP my situation! Maybe some of my family members would fall in the ball pit and just be "lost!!!"

Not trying to be argumentative, but what's the difference between spilled beer and spilled Coke? It is sticky liquid that would be no fun to have all over you, but beer is no more dangerous to you skin and hair (in fact, it's not bad ....), and in fact I'm sure Coke would stain worse. It's not like having beer spilled on you will make you drunk!!!

What's your specific concern about the spilled beer?

I would be more worried about hot coffee. There are a lot of things spilt at Chuck up Cheesers including

I have never set foot in a CEC, and with any luck never plan on doing so, but have heard my share of stories. I never knew they served wine. I am picturing them tapping into a 55 gallon drum of Taiwan's best!

I can see both sides of it. I wouldn't want to have a birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese (where we have in fact had 2 in the past) and worry about the parents being tipsy when they drive the kids home. I would feel responsible even if I didn't BUY the beer.

On the other hand, I go to CEC usually late morning in the middle of the week. I have never seen anybody drinking and I can't say for certain that our CEC sells alcohol. Granted, if you are drinking at 10 AM on a Tuesday at Chuck E. Cheese there are larger problems looming.

I guess I don't LOVE the idea but it doesn't bother me enough to stop me from going back.
