Alcohol at Be Our Guest

My own experiences with the Food & Wine Festival are vastly different. I've been to the Festival five of the last six years (and will be attending this year, and next year) and have never noticed anyone who seemed drunk. Most adults can and do drink responsibly.

I have seen drunks at F&W, but I wouldn't say it was a rule. I have attended the last 4 out of 5. I also think you get more drunks on Friday and Saturday nights, not during the week. Still, alcohol at F&W =/= serving alcohol with a seated dinner. And I've never seen anyone falling-down drunk.

I mean, let's be real. If you wanted to get drunk at the MK, it wouldn't be that hard to bring a flask in with you... Or drink at any one of the surrounding resorts and then enter the park.

No, it's not. Anti alcohol people just love to throw that out as some excuse. I've been to Food and Wine (and EPCOT in general) slews of times and I can honestly say I have never seen the drunken behavior people go on about.

I agree!!! We go to F & W nearly every year and I have never experienced rowdy, drunken hoards - or even a few folks here or there.

Exactly. We have NO IDEA and will NEVER KNOW how Walt's ideas would have evolved over the years. This LIMITED wine and beer service is not going to turn the Magic Kingdom into Pinocchio's Pleasure Island. (and I've only seen bad drunks at Epcot's F/W once in about 5 years of going to the festival)
If we really want to be like Walt, should they hand out cigarettes upon park entry?

Yes!

(Not that we should, I don't smoke nor do I like being around cigarette smoke...but it gets to the whole, "what Walt would have wanted.")

Be Our Guest has a very nice, more upscale dinner menu. I am not a huge drinker, but, I do enjoy having a good glass of wine with a nice meal, so I think the change makes sense.

That could be the difference. I tend to avoid the weekend nights, not because of guests' behavior, but because it's crowded. We tend to hit the World Showcase when it opens and leave before dinnertime. I still find it hard to believe the horror stories I hear about roaring drunks at every turn.

Very true. I've often left the Magic Kingdom for a meal and a drink or two and then came back. The Grand Floridian Café does serve mimosas with breakfast, after all.

Right but we are not talking about all the parks, of course Disney is in business
to make money. Walt even planned Epcot and he did not say that there would be no Alcohol. But MK really is designed for Kids of all ages, thats what makes MK so special. MK was always No alcohol and really should stay that way.

Well, if we are going to say that it was designed for kids of all ages, then it should be a knowledged that there are some adult kids who like to enjoy a glass of wine with their meal.

Not trying to make this into an argument, I drink, but one place that was built on "one mans dream" is what made the place so special. The world will not come to an end because alcohol is served in MK. Alcohol is served all over WDW and i have no problem with that. But Maybe i'm and old fashioned traditionalist and believe not every thing is better with change.

Alcohol is served in all other MK parks ( in Club 33 in Disneyland) around the globe. Personally, I feel beer and wine at a table service, french inspired meal in the MK is in line with the vision of WDW MK

And from what I've seen of he menu, it lends itself nicely to a glass of wine. This could turn out to be the one decent place to eat dinner at the Magic Kingdom.

How does having a drink with dinner equal drunk, entitled guests? Most people that have a drink with dinner do not overindulge.

That's an oxymoron. I've never understood the term "drink responsibly". A responsible person doesn't use mind altering substances. The moment the first sip passes someone's lips, they are acting irresponsibly.

I'm not saying alcohol should be illegal, but own up to your actions. Drinking is irresponsible no matter how much or little you drink. Every alcoholic started with "just a drink". No one sets out to drink and drive, but it happens a lot and kills lots of innocent people. Drinking can never be responsible.

As far as Magic Kingdom, I don't think serving wine at Be Our Guest is the end of the world, but I do find it sad how people are so obsessed with alcohol to the point they can't go more than a few hours without guzzling it down. I think it's sad that adults can't exercise personal self control and refrain from drinking for such the short period of time they are in Magic Kingdom. If you need alcohol to enjoy Disney then you are probably taking the wrong type of vacation.

I'm more concerned about the "entitled" guests than the drunk ones.

Just curious: You guys who are freaking out about beer & wine being served at BOG: You people do realize this is just one or two glasses, not a FREE FOR ALL never-ending Niagra Falls gushing waterfall into-your-mouth naked Yellowstone geyser-gushing 100-proof alcohol party, right??!!!

Bottom lines are:

1. It breaks a tradition that has been long standing. Anyone remember the episode of Roseanne where Dan was running around trying to find a beer and had to go to Epcot?

2. It opens the door to allow it in other areas. Well we have it at dinner at BOG, why not wine at Tony's? Why not beer at Casey's? Why not a free standing beer cart at It's a Small World? It's a progression thing. Once you let it in, it's easier o expand it.


As or the person saying it is in other places, Paris, etc. that's not a valid argument as country CUSTOM is clearly different on drinking alcohol!

1. I don't see the big deal with folks wanting ONE thing to stay the same.
2. The Puritans weren't against alcohol. If you research it, you will find that what they did oppose was public drunkenness.
3. If anyone feels they NEED a drink to deal with MK, they maybe need to rethink their vacation plans.

Why do you assume that people that choose to have a glass of wine during dinner are obsessed with alcohol and can't refrain fron drinking? Just because I choose to have a drink doesn't mean I need a drink.
Anymore than I need the Mickey Bar or frozen lemonade I had on my last trip to MK.

Well, lucky then that most of us use our self control and sip our drinks.
You've stated what you think of people who like to drink. I find your opinion pretty harsh and warped. If I might be so bold...

I find it sad how people are so obsessed with those who drink alcohol to the point where they can't recognize that drinking alcohol with a meal is something most people do, in most places in the world. I think it's sad that adults can't exercise personal self control and refrain from passing judgment on others during the short period of time they are in Magic Kingdom. If you need to judge people and not enjoy the magic then you're probably taking the wrong type of vacation.
