Yes, I’ve taken my family to California Grill and Biergarten and they haven’t been ruined. I’ve also taken them to Germany where the drinking age is fourteen and prostitution is legal……I don’t agree with it. Walt traveled the world and visited amusement parks and made decisions based on his observations and personal feelings. He made some very wise decisions and was very respected and successful.

I bet your concept of a theme park would be much different. Its nothing personal…..I tend to agree with Walt.

How do you know Walt's concept would be the same today?

After reading all these posts I find it sad that people seem to forget the values Walt and Roy were trying to set in the Magic Kingdom and what Disney use to represent as a whole company.I have loved this company my entire life and always will but I would give anything to go back to the value and quality it once stood for.

I agree that it is sad that some people forget Walt and Roy's prime objective, which was to create a place where entire families, (children and parents alike), could go to have a good time. Walt always told the story about taking his daughter to a park and sitting on a bench because there was nothing for adults to do. He wanted to create a place where adults could have a good time too. And many adults enjoy a glass of wine or Champagne with dinner while on vacation. It is indeed sad that there are people who do not understand how perfectly this fits within the grand plan. Adults no longer have to sit on the proverbial park bench while the kids ride the kiddie rides. So we are in agreement here.:thumbsup2

Usually I would agree with this, even I have stated before that I love having a dry MK. But Walt is no longer with us, and times have changed since he passed. And please lets not forget that Disney is a corporation, every corporation needs to evolve and innovate. A never-changing company means going 'kaput'.
And whether they are doing it for money or not I don't think it is that important, they are not here to make us happy, yes that is their message or their way to attract the audience to go to the parks, but that is not their job or their purpose here. Their job is to make money and to make more people go to Disney. A lot of adults enjoy having wine and beer with their meal, I do not see a problem with that. Irresponsible people exist everywhere, whether they are drinking or not, so I don't think Disney is wrong by selling alcoholic beverages in MK.

I'm lazy and didn't want to read through 39 pages of posts, so I'm glad to see a well written post right on the last page. Very well said.

Yet if a company wants to survive you can't go back. to survive you go forward not back, so they will be serving wine in the restaurants I am not surprised its happened and yes I like it. I like a glass of wine with my food I even like the occasional drink at the end of a shift day shift or night shift. Doesn't mean I have a problem with drink just that maybe once a month I like an adult drink after a shift or during a meal.

I think its wonderful.

This isn't Bud in a cup. They are serving Belgian ale and wine/champagne from various regions in France to go with the themeing of the restaurant. I have my reservation for Feb.

Honestly, I don't understand what the hoopla is about serving specialty beer and fine wine in the MK. It's not like they're going to have beer carts around MK, it's in one restaurant to enhance the dining experience. It's funny, everyone seems to want Disney to change and update and compete w/ Universal, but when they do, there's outrage that there is change. :confused3

It's tough enough to stay afloat in this economy without trying to better your brand. If they think that creating a fine dining experience in the MK will enhance their business, then good for them. No one seems terribly outraged that you can buy beer or wine at the other parks or at the resorts.

It comes down to this... it's a choice. If you don't want to drink alcohol in the MK, you can choose not to. If you do, you will be able to eat in a restaurant and get a beer or a glass of wine. If you don't agree with the choice, don't drink the alcohol.

Me, I don't tend to drink...but it doesn't bother me either way. If someone would like a glass of wine at dinner and they're over 21, knock yourself out. The majority of people are STILL going to be family people... you're not all of a sudden going to attract some seedy crowd. :rolleyes1 To be honest, I've never noticed drunk behaviour at Epcot or AK or even at our resort. It's not going to be the majority. There's going to be one bad apple in the bunch no matter if you're at Chili's at your house, or if you're at MK. It probably won't make your vacation worse though. ;)

That's just crazy talk. Don't you kow that 2 glasses of wine will turn the average person into a stumbling lunatic? :crazy2: Don't you realize that this decision will lead to beer carts on every corner, and buxom young ladies with shot-glass holsters hawking Tequila Shooters all throughout Adventureland? pirate: It must be true, because I read it here on the Dis!

Ive spent the last three days reading this thread! :crazy2:

my very quick opinion is that i don't see the decision making a heap of difference to peoples behaviour. Ill happily take a glass of wine (if I ever get ADR!??).:rotfl:

My question is..I keep seeing "2 glasses" popping up in posts, am I reading this wrong, or are you saying you are only allowed 2 glasses?!! Or is this just a presumption thats all people will have?? :confused3 x

I would guess that they are changing because all the market research they do showed their was a demand for a table service restaurant at MK that served alcohol.

ITA. There must have been data showing demand for a higher-end MK restaurant, and in most peoples' minds that includes being able to have a glass of wine with your $35 steak!

I know DH and I have talked many times about the fact that as much as we love LTT, a "nicer" dinner option would be nice at MK... seemed like a bit of a void as compared with the other parks these days.

I live just outside of New Orleans, but if you brought Bourbon Street to Disney World, I might actually enjoy Bourbon Street.

You know, I don't know where that came from. I can find plenty of official quotes saying alcohol will be limited to the dinner service and there will be no "Carry out" allowed. :confused3

However, there are apparently two-drink-limits at Disney's California Adventure drink stands, and people have complained that bartenders sometimes "randomly" impose a two-drink-limit at the Grand Californian Hotel. So they may be extrapolating from Disney policy elsewhere.

Has anyone ever tried to order more than two drinks at any of the other table service restaurants in Walt Disney World? (I don't imagine, given the prices and limited seating time, that people would bump into the limit very often, if there is one.)

I have only been able to order two drinks on one ID at Epcot (no, I was not double-fisting...just trying to buy a drink for all 3 of us at once).

yes, but that's in a walk up booth - that's standard...anywhere, not just WDW.

I'm fairly certain I've had more than 2 drinks during dinner, especially a dinner that had an appetizer, a salad, and a main course...

I have ordered more than 2 drinks at Raglan Road in the past. We had a later ADR to enjoy the music and dancers and stayed for another beer after desert was cleared. Epcot I can't say for sure as the purpose was dinner not a liquid dinner, I'm sure there are instances where a 3rd beer was ordered but most times two beers in 60-90 minutes we are eating is plenty for me.

What will be funny is seeing someone who doesn't know any better ordering a Chimay Blue. At 9% ABV it's got much more of a kick than a Bud or Coors Light. One good thing is they only have good beers on the menu, not the kind that you'd chug after mowing the lawn. The kind of person who'd happily kill a six-pack of Bud Light isn't gonna like the taste of a Belgian anyway... At 9-10 bucks a pop, they'll think "I can get a whole six of good beer as opposed to this fancy pants stuff..."

Jim

Not trying to be a beer snob at all :). Just that people used to drinking BMC will be awfully surprised at how fast a good Belgian can sneak up on you.

Jim

I've been out of town and just heard the news about alcohol at BOG. My my first thought was that I didn't care much, because it wouldn't be good beer, so I was pleasantly surprised when I read the list. I even think that the prices are quite reasonable! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

My second thought was how the higher alcohol content would be a surprise to some. Those used to typical American lagers might want to ride the Teacups before dinner! :)

I find it sad that so many people feel they can speak for Walt Disney and know how he would feel about this. The man grew up and died in a different era. NO ONE HERE knows a thing about how he would have perceived the current world or business strategy. Too many people seem to put Walt Disney up on a pedestal.

I know I have had more then 2 drinks at Disney restaurants. Flying Fish, Raglan Road, Via Napoli, Brown Derby to name a few. Victoria and Albert's offers wine service with their meals. Many restaurants offer wine/beer/ect flights.

I don't mind much if they serve it or not inside the restaurant. Thankfully, I have never seen anyone out of control in WDW even @ Epcot. If I had, this post would be different. Whatev.
