Got back a few weeks ago from a wonderful spring break trip at BCV. This was our second trip using the DDP, which was enjoyed by the whole family. My only observation is that I just can't eat that much dessert for 8 days, although I really tried. Does anyone else wish we could sub a glass of wine/beer/cocktail instead of either a dessert or appetizer? I know Disney probably can't for a variety of reasons, but at least I can dream:)

that's why we always use the DDE card, eat what we want and drink 20% off:goodvibes

I think I could eat all the desserts (except for some of the counter service ones - yuck), but not all the food. That's why we're doing the DDE this summer instead of the DDP.

We are going to use the DDP in Sept and i was wondering if we order an alcoholic beverage at a meal do they give you a separate check? If so can i apply my disney dining card 20% off to that total?

In our OCT trip only using the DDE.

Do you all think you would save $$ using the DDE vs DDP over an entire stay if you usually eat 1 table service meal per day? It seems like the cost of 1 table service meal after tax and gratuity is almost equal to one whole day of DDP for our group (aside from alcohol costs that is:laughing: ).

Yes, you will probably save more with DDP than DDE if your custom is one TS per day...at least in our experience. The savings on DDP vs. DDE matched so the Quick Service meals and snacks were essentially "free."

Perhaps they should offer a DAP (Disney Alcohol Plan). Frankly, I would be in favor of it:drinking1 I think that you should get automatic credit for certain things ~ traveling with in-laws, dealing with difficult kids, riding Dumbo more than 6 times in a day, etc.

In all seriousness, I agree that a glass of wine is a fair exchange for a dessert!

I think there is so much profit to a restaurant from alcohol that it would never appear on the DDP. I am glad it's covered by the DDE!!!
Ddhoeg:
The DDE vs DDP battle has been fought on many threads over on the Restaurants Board. DDP is better for many--DDE is also better for many. We never eat lunch, never eat snacks, never do CS, always do 2 TS spots for dinner, (and always eat at V&A!), and always get drinks with dinner. Plus we already have a great room at OKW via the Vacation Club. So for us DDE is the clear choice. For others with different dining preferences, it could be exactly the opposite.

Another vote for the DAP! I will gladly exchange a dessert for a glass of wine any day!:thumbsup2

Actually it's not just "profit" In MOST states there are very strict laws on "giving" away drinks. Amazing but true, the states regulate that. Partially to control underage drinking and partially because the tax rate on a drink in a resturant is HUGE. In addition to the sales tax you pay, there are other taxes the state gets!

I wonder just what Florida gets from alcohol sales. In many of the WDW restaurants a bottle of beer can cost around $4.00, maybe more. That's a return of $96 a case, or more. Their wholesale price on a case of beer must be FAR less.
Just as an example--a bottle of Yuengling at the ESPN club on the Boardwalk costs $4.50. That's a "return" of $108 a case. I can get Yuengling RETAIL at under $20.00 a case. WDW can probably do even better.

Yes you can! :goodvibes

We've used both but will be sticking with DDE from now on. It's works out to be a better savings for us.

We used the DDP in February and it was just too much food. Nice not having to worry about what you order but towards the end of the week we found ourselves eating even if we weren't all that hungry because we didn't want to lose our dining credits. This summer we'll stick with the DDE.

Because inquiring minds want to know.
It appears that FL gets 1.34 cents for 12 oz of beer or 3.34 cents per oz of liquor or 4 oz of wine. (Probably us beer drinkers are subsidizing that high liquor tax in resturants and bars)

My 2c... To determine which will offer the best savings I suggest you evaluate a few things.

1). Members in your party - we have a DS12 & a DS9, no way DS9 is eating off the kids menu so we'd have to pay for him as an adult... doesn't make the best sense to us. (FWIW, I really think there needs to be a Jr. price category, but anyway...)

2). Where you like to eat - do you frequent 2 credit places? If you like some 2 credit spots are you now going to have to pay OOP for another meal? Do you typically eat at CS? Many do not or only once in a while.

3). What you typically order - do you always eat a 3 course meal? We do not. Usually we'll share appys/desset. Also, do you enjoy wine/beer/cocktails at meals? We do. This would become OOP as well.

4). Do you like flexibility? I'm not talking about the planning aspect... do you want to be able to order 2 or 3 appys instead of an entree?

Would you really have purchased everything that is included? If yes, then I think the plan is for you. If not (you are only ordering to "get your money's worth"), then I think the DDE may serve you better.

Everytime we come home I break down all our receipts to compare apples to apples... maybe as our boys get older & start eating mass quantities... but for now...

Good luck!
