Alaska on July 19th, 2011 "Where a good tan is hard to find"

Hi Tom,

I am so sorry for your family's loss of your father. The loss of a loved one is hard and the loss of a parent is doubly so. My deepest sympathy goes out to you and to your entire family in this painful time.

Hi All,

I just spent the better part of 3.5 hours reading every single post on this thread and it has been a revelation! I learned about new babies, grandmas, birthdays, DL, WDW and DCL trips aplenty and now feel a lot less like a stranger 'round these here parts.

I am still in the dark about what a "House Party", but that will come with time... It has also been very interesting to find that a lot of the questions that I have regarding planning for this trip have already been answered. Amazing!

My DH and I are, at this point, planning to drive up to Vancouver from Claremont, CA, USA. My DH's oldest son and my DGD live in Washington so we are planning to squeeze in a visit with them on the way back.

Any suggestions for short side trips would be appreciated.

Hmm, I just looked at the clock on my monitor and realized that it is wickedly late (which explains why my eyes feel like they weigh a ton) so I better type off before I begin to ramble.

Take care all, help lots of people and have a great rest of your weekend!

Wow driving...how many hrs is that going to take you from where you live? As for the FE gifts once we get our list up and running you will see how many kids and their ages and the adults....who are familys and who are not.

Also as for making it their is a easy way to do it. When I made mine I didnt sew a lick and used fabric glue and Disney stickys that you use for scrap booking...they work fabulous. Do you have a Michaels arts and crafts store near you? and a fabric store? I cant sew so the iron and clue rocked for me. I will post a picture of it after this post.

House party is when you are selected to participate in a state wide party at the same time and same day. DCL sends out lots of stuff to have your party with. You register and they select you or they dont. I have been selected for the only 2 thye have so if they do another one I will let you know...and so will a poster from this board.

Thank you - I got my signature all fixed up. Feels like one more step closer to the cruise ;)

I hope all of the experienced FE'ers will share general ideas for what to include. I am a novice and want to play!

I had not considered driving up. That might be fun to do if DD can get away for the extra time. I have family to visit in Seattle and old friends in Oregon that it would be great to see. Hmmm - have to think about that.

Here's to a wonderful week!

Easy to do....it will be fun to help you....just ask away, the ones that know what to do will help you every step of the way:thumbsup2

Tom, I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. I can relate. We lost my dad 10 years ago. It doesn't make it any easier even when you know it's going to happen. Our thoughts, prayers & virtual hugs are with you & your family at this time.:grouphug:

Hi!

Yes I sure have in fact I am beginning to think that I might need to find a 12-step program as I have found so much and so many that I want that I may have to get another cabin just to have the additional door space:rotfl:!

I like your FE very much and am looking forward to crafting one of our own. Did you use a pattern or did you just "wing" it?

I must say that I am enjoying the anticipation. I found the DISboard's just a few weeks before our first cruise so I had to do most of my anticipatory suffering in silence as I didn't have like minded folks (beyond those I was traveling with) to commiserate with. Fortunately, that will not be the case this time and I am grateful for that!

Take care, help lots of people and have a great day!

just winged it because I cant sew a lick :rotfl: I went to the fabric store and bought fabric, rod, curtain string, stuff you put into a quilt that the fabric would stick to and make stiff, and fabric glue. Oh and iron on letters for our last name and each of our names on the red fabric bags so folks new where to put what and for whom.

Than went to Michael's and bought 4 small red fabric bags and lots of Disney stuff used for scrap booking. They have lots of sticky stuff on them and they stick to the fabric great! Matter of fact they are still stuck on there :lmao:

My main materials for putting it all together were an Iron and fabric glue.:thumbsup2 I also made mine bigger than some of the others that just seemed way to small for me...I like them big.

Hi!

Well, for someone who just winged it I'd say you done good there :-)

I agree with you regarding size - bigger is almost always better (you should see our Christmas stockings... hmm, or maybe you shouldn't :-). In fact, I am considering getting a couple of lawn and leaf Hefty bags for ours :rotfl:

I did a little time in JoAnn's today examining possibilities. I am really itching to get started on something so I bought some ingredients for some FE items. I know it will be difficult to gauge how many I actually need but I figure if I way over shoot the world won't end and I can always repurpose things as stocking stuffers and if I underestimate I can alway add to as we get closer.

I am trying right now with all my might to resist buying the Cricut machine.

I hope all is well and that you had a great day!

Take care, help lots of people and have a "Wonder"ful week!

Hi All,

Ok, I waited all day... and gave everyone else a chance a the Pirate and the Swan and now I can wait no longer...

... Perhaps everyone else was super busy today. Actually, so was I... I took a class at the Apple store (I am trying to learn how to use my computer and its programs well enough to be able to offer my services as a DISigner at some point in the future...

... Of course, part of what has made it such a busy time for me is that I just closed a deal yesterday. I am a Realtor (among other things, writer, artist, chocolatier, cake decorator, kids entertainer, photographer and the list goes on) and I was finally able to help some clients I have been working with for FOUR YEARS to find their perfect home...

... So finally helping them out was a great feeling. I am glad that I am able to help folks out. I do a whole lot of work helping folks who are in financial distress and I am very pleased and proud to say that I haven't lost one yet...

... But none of that has one whit to do with my presence here or with our upcoming cruise! Oh, and speaking of the cruise, today, thanks to my closing, I was able to put my deposit down on our trip. Now it feels a whole lot more "real" and even more exciting!

One of the things I did today, kind of in celebration, kind of in anticipation was to put some pretty serious time in at JoAnn's gathering some supplies to start of FE gifts.

I made a couple of samples for myself to see if they would work and if they were fun to make. Fortunately, I am happy with the results on both fronts...

... Next on the agenda is the purchase of some supplies from someone on everyone's favorite auction site for some other items that looked like they would be cute, fun to make and useful.

Having spent almost an entire day looking over the posts on the FE thread I wound up giving myself quite an education. I can hardly wait for things to be closer so that I can gear up in earnest...

... Has anyone else started on anything for our cruise yet or is it just me? Tomorrow I am taking my dear friend Arleigh and her friend Katie out shopping.

They are both actresses, you have probably seen them both on TV or in films. Arleigh had a considerable amount of success last year with a Super Bowl commercial she appeared in for Pedigree Dog Food (She was the little old lady who had the pet ostrich. The commercial won a whole bunch of awards.

And Katie was in a bunch of different spots and has even appeared in a Madonna video directed by her ex hubby Guy Ritchie which was banned in the U.S.

Katie just celebrated her 90th birthday and Arleigh is 84 and they are both going to run me into the ground...

... I am thinking of taking the ladies to Downtown Disney for lunch, but we will see where we end up. Katie lives in Irvine which is not too far from DL.

Oh, and I did get one thing that I justified the purchase of because of the cruise... I am now the very excited owner of an iPad! It is really super cool and I am enjoying playing with it. Now if there was just a DISboards app for the iPhone, iPod Touch and the iPad it would be even better.

It does surf the web very well (as long as there is no Flash involved :-) so I can access the boards that way but it does take a minute or two longer because I am still learning how to use the onscreen keyboard.

Well, there, I've done it... or at least I think I have :-) I hope everyone has been having a great week and that your upcoming weekend will be even better!

Take care all, help lots of people and have a "Wonder"ful day!
