Alaska 06/11/12 Anyone Sailing ?

Hi! Unless there is a major objection, the DIS Meet will be 3:15P on 6/11 in the Promenade Lounge.

Is anyone doing the Yukon Expedition in Skagway through Disney? Our friends recommended that we go with a private tour company as the tour is more personalized and our tour includes a 15 minute dog sled ride (on a road). I was told that we're on the same train - different car - returning to Skagway, so there is NO chance that we'll miss the ship. It would be fun if we had some DIS company! PM me if you want details.

We're off to pick up friends who will be sailing on the Inaugural Hawaii cruise (lucky!). Hope you're all having beautiful weather and fun getting ready for our cruise!

Best,
Sarah

Okay so I need everyone's opinion.....
We are spending a few days in Seattle Post cruise and our flight home leaves SeaTac at 11:00PM. Obviously we will have to check out of our hotel room at 11AM. My original plan was to just leave our bags at the front desk after we check-out and spend the day exploring Seattle before our transportation picks us up around 9PM. We have a long flight home including 2 plane changes Thanks Delta :headache: and won't arrive back in Orlando until Noon the next day. Basically we will be homeless for 26 hours . Do you think it is worth it to book our hotel for an extra night ($220) so we have a place to rest during that last day?

What time do you plan on leaving for the airport? I would say to drive 2 hours before so 9pm. You could arrange to have dinner right before at around 7pm close to the hotel where your bags are so you can just go get the bags and then go.

Also maybe be can arrange for a late check out from the hotel? like noon or 1:00pm (even if they charge like $100 extra)? if so I wouldn't spend the extra money, because then you can have a leisurely morning have lunch and between dinner and getting to the airport you really won't need it. Most of the schlep time is on the planes and the layover:faint:

Yes the car is picking us up for the airport at 9PM. I asked the hotel about late check-out but they said they wouldn't be able to tell us until that morning. That's what made me think of just paying for the extra day, but it's a lot of money I'd rather spend elsewhere. I think maybe we will just go to a late dinner like you said and save the extra money. Thanks!

Got our flight information, finally! Way to go DCL....I don't think I could have done better myself. One connection each way with a 1 hour layover. Now I have to measure my suitcase to be sure I can take my biggest one.

I can't believe how close it's getting.

I agree - yoo hoo for you!!
I'm too much of a control freak to let DCL (or any company) choose flights for me. Are you staying extra days before or after the cruise? Since I'm guessing you're also flying out of Indy, I wonder if we're on the same flights. We leave on the 9th, back on the 20th.

I'm a control freak, too and letting DCL arrange our flights was difficult to say the least for me, but due to my work and getting my grandson to Indy from Florida and back, we have to fly in the day of the cruise and fly back on the 18th. I was afraid of not getting to the ship on time, so that's why I went with DCL on the flights. It's turned out to be a good decision. Wish I could stay in Seattle a while like most of you, but I'll just have to go back there sometime!

I'm glad it's working out for you.
For many years in a prior job I held, I used to coordinate travel for business professionals, and I sometimes had to accomodate odd requests or arrange for people to meet up - much as you and your grandson are doing. It can be a challenge to make those arrangements, and you may be right about going the safe route and letting them deal with the details.

Hope to meet you in less than 6 weeks :)

Looks like our sailing is getting booked up! I checked on the website today and there are no inside or ocean view staterooms anymore, and the price is up on verandah and concierge cabins. It is getting so close, I get more and more excited every day. I am starting to get everything ready, making sure everything is printed out and in my travel book, working on fe stuff, double checking my itinerary and making reservations! We are in the home stretch you guys! :cool1:

Question for anyone staying in Seattle, are any of you planning on packing any type of warm weather clothes, I keep looking at average highs and lows and can't decide if I should pack anything light? Any thoughts about that? I sit down everyday and try to figure out what I might wear each day, but I just can't ever decide...:rotfl2:

I've never been to Seattle so this is just my thoughts but I plan on doing laundry when we arrive at the hotel post-cruise and basically wearing the same stuff. I figure layers should work for us there too. If we have the room I might throw in a pair of shorts for each of us. Again, not based on any experience.;)

We're packing a few outfits for warm weather and layers for cooler weather. Our friends and family had sunny warm weather on their Alaskan cruise last year.

Doing the cruise docs dance :cool1::cool1::cool1:

Anyone else get their cruise documents in the mail today?

LUCKY!!!:woohoo:

We have not gotten ours yet! Hope we will get them soon so I can do the dance!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 For now I will patiently wait my the mailbox until I get mine too!

Like others, I'm committed to the layering concept, so we'll already have short sleeve/sleevless tops with us. It just a question of adding a pair of shorts or not (based on space in luggage). The extra time we have in Seattle we're actually spending on Mount Rainier, so I'm guessing we'll want to dress in warm layers there too. Also planning to do laundry along the way somewhere.

And no.... haven't received our docs yet... but I'm be watching for that mailman today! Took my last final exam yesterday and I ACED IT!!! Yay!!!

Got a list of the movies for our cruise - it can always change, but here goes!

Muppets
John Carter
African Cats
Avengers
Toy Story 3 (in 2 and 3D)
Winnie the Pooh
Cars 2
Chimpanzee
War Horse
The Help
Real Steel
Pirates 3 - On Stranger Tides

A couple others are going to be 3D, but I can't remember which.

That's strange that all of the movies are older except Avengers, I thought they would have had more first runs movies like the new Disney Nature Chimpanzee one instead of African Cats...oh well, maybe they will add a new one, if only we were on the cruise a week later, Brave comes out that next week, can't wait to see that one, if only they would do a Premiere at Sea for us...hehe!:cool1::wizard:

Got a call from my daughter tonight and my grandson got his cruise docs today!!! He was so excited. He lives in Florida, so I'm thinking that all of ours are on their way. Just a matter of how many days it takes for them to get to you from Florida. Also heard on the forum today that several Alaska cruisers have been told there will be no Pirate Party on the Alaska cruises this year? Anyone know if this is true?

No documents yet :(

As for weather, we were in Portland (2 hours south) a couple years ago around the same time and it was HOT, but all the locals said that was a little unusual. I plan on bringing a little of everything and layering. Thankful for free bags on Delta with my Delta AmEx card!!
