Alamo's mini van rate for early May dropped for me today (M)

I'm glad that I have kept checking this thread. Someone posted earlier (here I think) that you do not have to be a Costco member to use their discount. I made a reservation thinking this was the case. I just changed my reservation to the Wal-Mart code/Entertainment coupon and my rate was the same as with Costco.

Can I use the Wal-Mart code with the Entertainment coupon??

Glad I e-mailed Alamo and Costco :sunny:

I've now re-booked using a Walmart code as I received this from costco today:

Thank you for your e-mail to Costco Wholesale.

In order to get the Costco discount you have to be a Costco member, and
you do have to show your Costco card.

Sincerely,

I believe that you can get a great rate through this site too - with no need for membership:

:grouphug:

Also for those with BJ memberships instead of Costco they also have the same rate available. Also in store there is a $20.00 coupon you can bring with you.

I made a reservation through the vacationoutlet.com site using the $15 off coupon. My confirmation says that it is a BJs coupon. That sounds to me like you need to be a member of BJs to use vacationoutlet. Does anyone else have a reservation with them, and if so, does it say anything about BJs?

wow thanks
just got a minivan for $154.00 all fees march 12-17 5 days I had a car for $188.00 at alamo

I went to the vacation outlet I think and used costco coupon $25.00 off now it is $125.19 with all fees and coupon applied for minivan

I am using an e-coupon for my reservation. I am assuming that I don't have to show anything when I check in to get the car. Is this correct or am I missing something? I just clicked thru on the website and the coupon was automatically applied. Thanks.

My understanding is that you need to have a printed copy of the coupon from the Costco.com site. The coupon page says on it "Print this coupon & present it at the rental counter upon arrival."

Thank you thank you thank you OP !!!!!!
I went from $315.00 to $175.00 for March for a minivan!!!
The funny thing is we are members of BJ's AND Costco- but I never checked-
(family of 6... don't ask!)

I owe you a mickey bar!!!

Thanks for replying Figment. The thing is, I didn't use Costco site, I just went thru Alamo. On the home page you could click on their specials. This took you to a page that said to click right here for make a reservation. Once I did that, the discount was already added in. So there was no coupon to print off that I saw. Now I am worried that I don't have the coupon that they may ask for.

I tried going thru Costco but because my rental is next week, there is no advantage in price.

That click right here to make the a reservation is the coupon on Alamo's site.

I am looking at one I printed off earlier this week. It gives a contract ID on mine, and a coupon code that you use while booking the ressie (both are inputed automatically for you though when going through Alamo's site). It says "Click, Book, and Save"

But in larger printing under the "reservations" button that you clicked, it says " Print this coupon & present it at the rental counter upon arrival".

Go back the Alamo site and try to make a new ressie but everytime it asks you to make a ressie, read carefully.

I missed it a few times because I didn't realise I had to print it off.

I hope this makes sense.

Big thanks to the OP, and other posters who shared the discount info! You all just saved me $40.

Who knows, if I stick with you guys, I could learn a thing or two :thumbsup2

So if I hit Prepay and get some coupons or code to work I can automatically bypass the car rental counter? Is the counter ALWAYS busy? We are flying in to MCO at 8pm and I thought that seemed late and everything would be less crowded. Am I wrong??? And can anyone use the entertainment coupon or do you need to have the book?
<Sigh> I hate not knowing all this stuff! :confused3

It doesn't say anywhere on the Terms and Conditions that a Costco Membership must be presented in order to receive the $25 coupon.

Anyone still going to try to use it without having a membership?

CRSNDSNY,

On page one of this thread, Thelionqueen says that she called to varify that you do not need to be a member of Costco in order to use this discount/coupon. She says that you only need a card if you book through Costco.

This is by far the best rate I have found. I might call Alamo and ask about the coupon. I'll post what I find out.

Yeah, I saw that. Two people posted emails regarding this matter -- one from a Costco Rep. and one from an Alamo Rep. Both said the same thing but I'm concerned about the response from the Costco Rep. Of course she's going to say you need a membership -- she's trying to bring in business.

But I made a reservation with this process and I do not see anywhere on my paperwork having to show proof of membership.

I guess what I'm wondering is if anyone has a first-hand account of this reservation discount. Do they really ask for the membership?

I don't think you have to have the actual card with you. Most people don't take these things when they go on vacation.
Just for the heck of it, I went to the website and no where does it say you need the card. You do need the coupon.

It still doesn't beat what I have. I am getting a good deal on the Uplander for $156 for 8 days, but I already have a reservation on the Equinox for $170. I don't want a minivan. Think I will stick with what I have...or will I?

Yes, I saw that too. It just says you need that coupon. I have that printed out.

I guess you could always have a back-up rental in case you don't get this rate when you get the counter if you do not have the membership card.

I'm sure it isn't standard practice but I'd hate to get there, not have the card and have them tell me I owe an exuberant amount for the rental.

All you have to do is mention going to another rental company, they are all right there. With the competition they have due to ME, i have a feeling they'll be honoring it, especially if you have the coupon in hand. Nowhere on that coupon does it state you must also have the card, in fact, my coupon doesn't even mention Costco.

:cool1: Woo hoo! Thanks to the OP! I just reserved a Chevey Equinox for $96.00 total for early May!!! What a great bargain. I am a Costco member, so no worries on that part. I better go print my coupon. Thanks again!

Unless I find a comparable deal, I think I'm going to use it.

I have a minivan for May 6 - 12th for $210.11 after taxes. It is at least $40+ less than other combinations of codes and coupons I've been able to find.
