Hi all,
We travel on Sunday and have done the save time paperwork with Alamo. Our initial car hire is for 7 days so we have opted for the gold insurance with US carhire so this includes the pre paid fuel. However, we are travelling down to Port Everglades in FL so need the option of the tolls. On the save time paperwork it hasn't given me the option of adding these.
I have read that some cars in the fleet in Orlando don't automatically have the toll transponders so I was wondering how I obtain this? Does this mean that I will have to queue? :confused3

When we collect the car from FL to drive back to Orlando again we need the option of the tolls. This time as we only have the car hire for 3 days we cannot take the gold option so either have to opt in retuning the car full or pre paying this with Alamo. We've never done this before so just wondered what your thoughts about this were.

Thanks Clare :)

tolls : with alamo you're already opted in for the toll by plates program, no need to go to the desk to ask for this feature. But you'll need to go to the automated kiosks (in front of the desk) to perform check in (save time is not online check in)

you don't need a transponder in the car.
when you use a toll lane, your license plate is photographed and you get charged automatically
It costs $2 per rental day (you only get charged the $2 fee on days you actually use the tolls) with a maximum of $6 per rental period for the toll service, then of course you have to pay for the tolls themselves.

The system is automatically activated the first time you go through a toll

here's a sunpass page with all the detalis : https://www.sunpass.com/rentalcar

also you can phone alamo directly to have the most up to date information

fuel : if you intend to drive a lot, then prepay fuel and return empty can be ok. If you don't think you'll need to gas up, then you'll probably lose money if you prepay.

Thanks. I thought I was going mad as I had read so much information that Alamo's car where already opted in. I had then read that somebody had a car that was originally from Alabama in the fleet which meant that the car wasn't opted in.

This confused and scared me somewhat :guilty:

The chances are we are going to have to fill up anyway as we are driving the car back to Orlando from Fort Lauderdale. Even though we will be doing Universal those days and staying at the RPRH we are planning a trip to the Mall at Millenia and will do DTD again before we fly home. I think it will probably work out cheaper for us to fill up en route but not near the airport.
