Alamo midsize?

The last time we chose an Alamo midsize they listed (and we got) a Pontiac G6, now they are listing a G5 (smaller). Anyone rent a midsize from them lately?

It's getting ridiculous. Avis tried to give us a Kia Rio in the midsize group. We finally fought for a Ford.

This is getting crazy. The rental companies seem to be taking a lesson from the food industry: don't raise the price, shrink the size of the package!
Only difference - they also raise the price!

On what planet is a G5 a midsize? We had one on our trip last February and for that, we booked a compact!
Isn't a "midsize" car supposed to hold five adults?
The backseat of a G5 wouldn't comfortably hold anyone above 5 foot and certainly wouldn't hold three in the backseat! And the trunk didn't have much room after we put our two bags and one carry-on tote in it.

Not to hijack this thread, but does anyone know if in Orlando, a standard is the same as a fullsize? They're the same price online, and I don't recall seeing 2 separate rows for them--I remember mid-size (which you guys are right, is more like a compact!) and then I remember full-size. I don't remember seeing "Standard"...

I just rented with National last month. A Standard was a Malibu and a Full-size was an Impala.

We rented a standard last November and picked a Malibu from the full size isle. Now of course online the standard class indicates a Malinu or similar, so I am not sure if we could have picked an Impala or something else.

But the Malibu is in the full size isle. So while online it indicates Standard, if you rent a full size you can also pick a Malibu. There is no Standard isle at MCO.

I never pick up from MCO, but only the Dolphin. I was told at the Minneapolis National counter that the reason some of the Malibus get rented as full size is because they used to be classified as full size. National/Alamo were recently bought by Enterprise and they are in the process of changing the Malibus to standard (they used to be full size before Enterprise bought them).

Dioxide 45 confirmed what I remembered--that there isn't an aisle marked "Standard" at MCO--only "Mid-size" and "Full-size" and that the standards are on the full-size aisle. Seems to me that those of you who were expressing how small the mid-size are could book a mid-size and get ahold of the one car class upgrade coupon from Alamo and get a standard or full-size off the full-size aisle for the same price. I think that's what I'm going to do...

Better yet, pick up a 2010 Entertainment book. There is a two car class upgrade coupon online. If you upgrade from the mid size it gets you a full, if you upgrade from a compact it gets you a standard. No sense upgrading from a mid size with this coupon since it seems they treat the standard and full size the same at MCO. The price difference between a compact and a standard/full can sometimes be a lot. This two car class upgrade coupon is so far the best coupon I have found for Alamo.

That is FANTASTIC advice! I already have the 2010 Ent. Book but didn't realize you could register it online and get more coupons (Guess I didn't read the cover!). I'm definitely going to book the compact with the double-upgrade coupon. Thanks!!!!

So, I just booked the compact and used the double-upgrade coupon to get a standard for 1 week and 1 day (4/18-4/26) for $214.04 including all taxes and fees! That's awesome! :dance3: :cheer2:  :cheer2: :dance3:
