Hello ... a while back I posted about feeling that I had been rooked by Alamo during our visit in February. I had been charged the premium insurance package and didn't realize until later all that I had been charged.

Well I wrote a letter to Alamo and I just noticed this past week that they have credited me on my Visa bill. I am not exactly sure of the US amount as it has already been converted into Can. funds. It is probably around 90 US. I would think this is the difference between the highest insurance package and the least. I have yet to receive a reply, if I ever do, as I am curious about their response to this. I guess it paid to complain. I did give them the link to this website and suggested they have a good look at what MANY people were saying about their poor reputation at this location. Maybe things will get better??? I did suggest they at least have some sort of chart that explains the different insurance options, as I am sure many people like me are totally unaware of the different options that are available to them. You are tired after flying, in such a long line and you really aren't thinking straight ... it is almost sneaky in how they get you with the insurance pitch.

Anyway ... just thought I'd let you know that they did at least credit me for a bit of money. Next time I will be much more aware of what I need and don't need!

That's great Kerri, I'm glad you were able to get some of your money back! :) It sure can pay to complain, as the saying goes.."It's the squeeky wheel that gets the grease!" :)

There are different insurances, but, not a difference in highest or lowest. It is one price per option. Look online and you will see what I mean. did you want insurance? Did they give you the line" do you want the basic insurance or the "x,y,z". There is no such thing as basic insurance. All agencies do this and all agents are under incredible pressure to sell this. However, they (all car agencies) are very deceptive about this. I would write them and tell them you wanted no insurance and were mislead.

I got the letter from Alamo today that apologized for any unintentional charges from them.

Gail ... I did write them and complain. When were registering at the airport all the woman said was 'do you want insurance like collision and "stuff"' ? Well yes we did ... but not the whole shebang like she gave us (the death policies, etc). Apparently this is called the APP package (Alamo Protection Plus) ... includes collision; 100,000 uninsured motorist coverage; 500,000 primary 3rd party liability insurance; and 100,000 accidental death benefit for the principal renter while operating the vehicle and 10,000 for each passenger in the Alamo vehicle (as quoted here in my letter). This package costs 255,and they credited me 95.60 due to this 'misunderstanding'. I still think they should have something posted that explains what different insurance options you can choose for those of us who are unfamiliar with the process especially.

Anyway ... I was pleased they acknowledged me and didn't just stick it in the shredder!! Next time I am better prepared as this was our first time renting a vehicle!
