Tara...thanks for the good advice...I will set up a back up reservation in case this one falls through....but I must say....why are the rental car rates so high for September? Almost $400.00 plus the fees and the fees that the State of Florida puts on the rentals is crazy. Since we are spending 4 days at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and then 3 days on the Disney Wonder we could just go with the Magical Express and take Disney transportation to the port...so we will see what happens.....

why are the rental car rates so high for September?

They've been unusually high for most all of 2009. The most likely explanation is that the MCO rental agencies have been very good at trimming their fleets to get below falling demand, and keep prices up.

Just re-read the 5 pages of terms and conditions, and no where does it state that any other documentation is required but a valid drivers license and a valid credit card. It just seems that someone might have a good argument since nowhere does it state you need proof of being a travel agent. We use our BJ's rental codes and DVC codes from time to time, and we have never been asked for any ID....also, if you use the kiosk you don't speak with anyone at the counter either.....but will put a back up plan in place thanks to advice from Tara.

Let me assure you that if you use a code that requires certain ID, the kiosk will lock you out of continuing and direct you to the counter. I know this from first-hand experience as I tried a little experiment with another code 3 weeks ago. This code might not be flagged for ID check, but it might be, hence my advice for a back-up you can live with.

And yes, rates have been higher this year than in the past. I usually get a midsize SUV for about $150-$175/week through Alamo, but couldn't get near that this May. I was seeing over $200 for a full-size car. I ended up snagging an Alamo "hot deal" email offer for a minivan for $199/week plus I used Alamo's $25 online coupon. This deal is for a minivan that is a 7-passenger Dodge or GM model, but those were all gone when we arrived at 11am, so we were upgraded to a Toyota Sienna.

I bet somewhere in that 5 pages it states they have the ability to change the terms and conditions at anytime. Also, look under the programs and business travel tabs of those websites. They specifically state benefits are for certain people. I bet if you dig deep enough, ask the HR department of those targeted corporations for THEIR terms and agreements from Alamo, it will probably say ID is required at time of rental.

The car rental rates are RIDICULOUS! There is NO that they should have doubled from last year. Even airfare has stayed at a reasonable rate.

Just have a BACK-UP reservation some where else. I used the OOAG code from Dollar. I have never rented from them before, but I got a Dodge Caliber for 10 days in September for 291.00 taxes and all. Not the greastest, but still better than anywhere else.

OzFan....thanks....at this stage of my life...I don't let opinions of others make me feel bad or pass judgement....I respect others opinions and I move on....it is like the old debates on the drink mugs at the resorts...if you bring it back with you and use it again on your next visit or at another resort...you are stealing...it used to be kind of funny watching and listening to the flames that the soda mugs used to set off....I guess we moved on to rental car codes....but honestly...we will have a back up plan. We can make reservations on the Magical Express(for free)and can always purchase Disney transportation to the port and back to the airport.
