Alamo at MCO? Questions?

Hello,
We normally rent from Budget at MCO because it is Just So Easy to do...

We get off the plane, go downstairs to the Budget counter, cross the street into the garage and get into the car. Total time about 10 to 15 minutes.

We decided to rent from Alamo this trip because it is a heck of a lot cheaper for a better car.
The website says that it is located on the Airport grounds.

Can someone tell me exactly where it is?

Where do you pick up/drop off the car?

Do you need to take a shuttle?

Also, is anyone a Quick Silver member? and if so, explain the benefits?

Thanks!

The biggest benefit is you slip your quick silver card into a machine, print out your document, and off you go to the car. No need to stand in those awful Alamo/National lines and no need to listen to Alamo's insistence that you need more insurance.

Where is the "machine" located. 1st time using quick silver next week... I thought I had to stop at the counter in the garage.

You do the same with Alamo as you said you do for Budget... it is downstairs, check in at counter, go to garage outside.. wah-laa. Lines could be long or short- one never knows.

There is no quick silver machine at MCO, however, there is a special line at the counter in the airport or you can go to the booth in the garage.

They have replaced all the QS credit type cards with paper as they are doing away with the kiosks. They do not have one at MCO. They did this phase out when Vanguard bought Alamo and National.

Okay,
So if you go to the booth in the garage, you can totally bypass the counter?

If so, then is the garage entrance located exactly opposite of where the Alamo counter is?

it's well-marked, across from terminal.

there are several alamo rental sites, mco is the terminal location.

i have seen the garage kiosk backed up but, nothing like the hour wait I've had @ terminal.

FYI, i rent from who-ever is cheaper but, like the EA/National better - straight to intermediate aisle, cust. service comes up to you & away you go.:drive:

Did they do away with the having to stop at the booth before you leave the garage? Last trip, I selected my car and did all the paperwork at the exit booth. This was for National.

if you are emerald aisle & indicate so on ressie, as long as you pick an intermediate, you don't have to stop anywhere; except for the guard station on way out...don't think you can exit w/o passing thru them to show photo id, print out of res., etc.

using EA, they just automatically charge whatever CC you have on file in your profile.

we've usually been approached by an employee on the aisle though, assume as a courtesy to verify that we have an EA ressie.

now, if they'd only lower their rates for Oct. (for our trip in June they were over $100 more!)

It's the same garage entrance as Budget (and all the other onsite rental companies). When you get into the garage, there'll be signs telling you which agencies are on which level - 1 and 2 only. Pretty sure Alamo/National is level 1, but if not, the escalator is right there.

I don't care HOW much cheaper Alamo is... I am not giving them my business.

I will still use National, but if I feel that the business practices at Alamo are being implmented at National, I am outta there.

My sanity is worth something and I belive that using Alamo pretty much tells that that "The fact that we give no service" is good!

Oh, I do know the EA procedure, :), I was just wondering if they had changed it since March, which is when I last rented from them.

Coming out of the A side it is on level 2, there are also elevators there, which are real handy if you have luggage on a smart cart.

Actually CarolA, I am finding that National is getting more and more like it's sister company. Very slipshod cleaning between renters, same "duh" attendants, some are very argumentative, some cannot speak English, which is fine for others who don't speak English, but, not for those who only speak English. ( I have NOTHING against people working who have English as a second, third etc language, I DO have a problem when they don't speak it or understand it, still no problem with the person, however).
But, my biggest gripe is the fact that they outsource their customer phone service. I have a really hard time giving my business to any company that does that. So, I am going to use Avis for 6.00 more a week. I am a Preferred member, so I can prance my little self over there and my car will be waiting for me. No waiting in lines at the counter or the exit booth.

Just used alamo last week, no problem at all. No line at the counter in the garage. We picked a toyota 4 runner instead of a trail blazer because we thought the 4 runner was bigger.

Inconsistency kills me

I recently became a quick silver member and they told me at MCO to go downstairs to the car rental counter. I was told they have a seperate line for quick silver and that you couldn't bypass the counter like you can their sister company Emerald at national. :confused3

Would love to get info from someone traveling soon. We go mid Sept.

They are the same company, owned by the same entity.

We used Alamo at MCO in May and it was fine. We could checkin online ahead of time and just had to go to the lot, pick the car we wanted and stop at the exit booth to show paperwork and license. Car was clean except two suction cup marks left on windshield. I assumed previous renter had a radar detector or satellite radio. We used Alamo again in June in Niagara Falls and couldn't check-in online ahead of time. I wonder if they did away with that or if it just depends on your rental location. ??
We're using them again in Sept in Orlando and got a mid-size for 6 nights for only $88.22 incl. tax and free additional driver. I'd say you can't beat that with a stick! :thumbsup2

I realize that. So far my National experiences have been fine.

(Someone else posted about outsouced Customer Service, but that probably doesn't hit me too much, I can't recall the last time I actually called a rental car company! :rotfl: )

The fact that National has EA has allowed me to avoid thier customer service, If however, I start having issues I will be gone.

I MUCH perfer Hertz so that's who I generally go with. For a savings I will go with Dollar where I have had good service also. (Haven't used Buget or Avis at MCO)
