Aladdin tribute to Robin Williams?

I've been wondering this since I heard about Robin Williams' untimely death last night. I wonder if the Aladdin show will make any reference to the sad news. As Jeffrey Katzenberg said, "Aladdin would not have been the classic movie it is without [Robin Williams'] brilliance.

Apparently something like 70% of what he did for the Genie was improvised.

So sad to lose such a comic genius.

Genie always includes current news and gossip in his bit. Just not sure if they'll include sad news.

I hope that people pay attention while seeing Aladdin the next few weeks because if they do mention it, it will likely be amazing.

I wondered the same thing. I would think they might say something at the end.

it's funny (though not surprising I guess), I was wondering exactly this last night some time after I heard the news.

it seems like it would be strange NOT to acknowledge it...at least for a moment. Perhaps only today or through this week, you don't want to belabor it but I think it's likely they'll say or do something.

I'll bet the show is going to see an uptick in audience numbers for a bit.

My daughter asked me the same thing last night. I was thinking probably not since it's sad news.

I honestly doubt that they'd include any reference to his passing in the actual show. The Genie's monologue incorporates current events to make the guests laugh. Someone's death is not really the right type of material. At most, I would guess that something could be said at the end of the show (after it is over), but I'm just not sure how much they would want to incorporate a sad event into the show.

Actors are really good at mixing in tributes. Even something as subtle as having the curtain close on just the Genie's lamp at the end would be an amazing tribute without having to say anything and a lot of little kids probably wouldn't realize what it's about.

I was thinking about this last night as well, they probably won't do anything, but if they do, it won't be obvious.

I would be incredibly surprised if there is no tribute to him - even something nonverbal, as t0rrent suggests - both by the DCA Aladdin cast and the Broadway cast. I actually looked today to see if there were reports of anything from the Broadway cast, but I forgot that yesterday was Monday and Broadway is dark on Mondays...if the Broadway cast does anything, it'll likely be at tonight's performance.

All great Disney minds seem to think alike. I too was wondering the same thing as everyone else. My guess is they'll do something. He deserves some kind of tribute, and I'm sure they'll come up with something appropriate. Hopefully someone will post an answer for us.

If I was at the show right now and they got to the part where Aladdin tells the Genie he's free, I would start bawling out loud.

Me six! I almost started crying just thinking about it. :sad1:

Yep. Eyes filled up and whimper-moaned a little bit.

Trying not to be upset all the time, as it freaks out my son (who is also sad about popeye/teddyroosevelt/genie/jumanji-guy/fender-from-Robots, but is dealing with the changes his grandma is going through and doesn't need to think about more sadness) but that nearly got me.

Oh...I forgot about Jumanji. We have that DVD. .and love it. I instantly remembered him playing Peter Pan in "Hook." Such a great actor.

I hope they do something, even if it's just a wreath or something in front of the theater.

I kind of doubt they will though, the casinos here in Vegas typically avoid showing the news or anything negative (unless it's unavoidable) because people are on vacation and they want to forget about the troubles of the outside world, I'd guess Disney has a similar policy.

I just finished watching the 20/20 special and it was a roller coaster of laughing til I was crying followed by tears of grief. I still can't believe he's gone, it's amazing someone can bring so much laughter to the world and have such an impact on the lives of people who didn't even know him.

My DD is a WDW CM and two of her friends were at the Aladdin show on Broadway last night. Genie gave a heartfelt tribute at the end of the show and the complete cast of the show along with the audience sang "Friend Like Me." They said it was an amazing tribute to Robin Williams

That sounds like a great tribute. Thanks so much for sharing!
